Complex sclerosing lesions of the breast mimicking carcinoma: diagnostic pitfalls and the decisive role of immunohistochemistry.

BACKGROUND: Complex sclerosing lesion (CSL) of the breast is a benign proliferative condition that frequently mimics invasive carcinoma on imaging and in limited biopsy specimens. Radiologic-pathologic discordance may result in diagnostic uncertainty and potentially unnecessary surgical intervention. Accurate pathological assessment, particularly evaluation of myoepithelial cell preservation, is therefore critical to appropriate clinical decision-making. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of three female patients diagnosed with CSL at a single medical institution was conducted, along with a fo

Catamenial haemolacria and ocular pain as rare manifestations of extra-pelvic endometriosis.

Ocular involvement in endometriosis is an exceptionally rare extrapelvic manifestation, typically presenting as catamenial haemorrhagia. We report the case of an adolescent girl who presented with recurrent eye bleeding and pain during her menstruation. A comprehensive physical examination and imaging, including orbital magnetic resonance imaging, were unremarkable. Hematologic and ophthalmological evaluations excluded coagulopathies and structural ocular pathologies. Given the cyclical pattern of her symptoms and the absence of other identifiable causes, a presumptive diagnosis of ocular endo

Diagnostic Decision Support and Automation in Vestibular Diagnosis.

This article examines the current and future role of decision-support systems and automation in vestibular diagnosis across emergency, primary care, and specialty settings. Vestibular disorders are common but often misdiagnosed because of overlapping symptoms, challenging bedside examinations, and limitations of neuroimaging. Structured diagnostic approaches improve accuracy when correctly applied. Emerging technologies offer objective assessment of eye movements and may enhance diagnostic reliability. Large language models provide valuable support for clinical reasoning, education, and inform

Case Report: Atypical cat-scratch disease presenting as referred shoulder pain and deep lymphadenopathy in a pediatric patient.

BACKGROUND: Cat-scratch disease (CSD) is a zoonotic infection attributable to Bartonella henselae. Typical clinical manifestations include regional lymphadenopathy accompanied by primary cutaneous lesions that develop following exposure to cats. Although most patients present with typical regional lymphadenopathy, a subset of patients may develop atypical manifestations, which can complicate diagnosis. Owing to the nonspecific clinical features, CSD is prone to misdiagnosis or diagnostic omission. This report describes a pediatric case of atypical cat-scratch disease characterized by initial s

Validity of Cognitive Performance-Based Screening Tools for Older Adults: Dual Tasks Combining Cognition and Hand Function.

BACKGROUND: Early detection of cognitive decline in older adults is essential for timely interventions to preserve independence in instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). Existing cognitive screening tools often lack ecological validity or require extensive administration. Dual-task paradigms combining cognitive and motor demands may provide a practical and sensitive alternative. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to validate two dual-task measures integrating cognition and hand function as cognitive screening tools for older adults. METHODS: A total of 103 community-dwelling older adults

Cinnamic Acid Attenuates Ethanol-Exacerbated Hepatocyte Pyroptosis in Type 2 Diabetes via AMPK-Mediated NLRP3/GSDMD Inhibition.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is frequently accompanied by chronic ethanol (ET) consumption, which worsens metabolic dysregulation and organ damage. Cinnamic acid (CA), a natural compound with anti-diabetic and hepatoprotective effects, shows therapeutic potential, but its role in mitigating ET-exacerbated hepatocyte injury in diabetes remains unclear. This study thus investigated whether CA protects against ET-induced hepatocyte pyroptosis under diabetic conditions and explored the underlying mechanisms. In vitro, HepG2 cells cultured under high-glucose (HG) conditions were exposed to ET to
