Effects of indoor cycling (spinning) exercise on body image and anthropometric measurements in women: An eight-week intervention study.

This pre-test post-test intervention study included forty women (n = 40) with a mean age of 31.75 ± 5.38 years. Participants performed 45-minute indoor group cycling (spinning) sessions three times per week for eight weeks. Body image perception, assessed using the Body Image Scale developed by Secord and Jourard [1] and adapted into Turkish by Hovardaoglu [2], and anthropometric measurements were evaluated before and after the intervention. Following the exercise program, total body image scores increased significantly from 137.30 ± 27.19 to 159.00 ± 20.81 (p < .001, r = 0.85). Significant re

Effects of one night of sleep deprivation on single- and dual-task gait.

Sleep deprivation (SDEP) impairs cognitive control, which may affect movements that rely on these processes, such as walking. To test whether gait changes after one night of SDEP reflect reduced cognitive capacity, we compared its effects with those of dual-task walking (i.e. walking while performing a simultaneous cognitive task). We hypothesize that SDEP will produce gait changes similar to those under dual-task conditions. Eighteen healthy adults (nine female, nine male; age, mean (s.d.): 22.2 (2.3) years) were tested the morning after a SDEP and a control night. Participants completed two

Prevalence and determinants of thoracic aortic dilatation detected by focused cardiac ultrasound in recreational and competitive sport participants.

OBJECTIVES: Ascending aortic dilation is a clinically important cardiovascular condition, yet its prevalence and associated factors in recreational athletes remain poorly described. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictors using an aorta-focused echocardiographic protocol (FoCUS) performed by non-expert operators. DESIGN: Retrospective cross-sectional observational study. METHODS: 400 participants (79% men; median age 45 years; range 11-78; 65% recreationally active individuals) undergoing routine sport cardiology screening were included. Aortic root and tubular diameters

Pain Intensity and Knee Extensor Strength Across Different Ranges of Motion During Knee Extension Exercise in Individuals With Patellofemoral Pain.

CONTEXT: Knee extensor weakness has been identified as one of the strongest risk factors for the development of patellofemoral pain (PFP), and strengthening exercises for the quadriceps are widely recommended to improve pain and function. However, conflicting biomechanical findings and small studies-often conducted in pain-free individuals-limit guidance on the optimal range of motion (ROM) for knee extension exercises in PFP. This uncertainty hinders clinical decision-making, despite knee extension being one of the most commonly prescribed exercises for this population. OBJECTIVE: To compare

From Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention to Performance Optimization: A Conceptual Framework for Cardiovascular Assessment in Elite Athletes.

Cardiovascular pre-participation evaluation in elite athletes primarily aims to identify cardiovascular conditions associated with sudden cardiac death. Current international recommendations emphasize comprehensive medical history, physical examination, and resting 12-lead electrocardiography (ECG), with additional investigations guided by clini-cal findings and individual risk. However, advances in sports cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, and exercise physiology provide opportunities to integrate cardiovascular risk assessment with physiological performance evaluation. This article proposes

Slice-Wise Quality Assessment of High b Value Breast DWI via Deep Learning-Based Artifact Detection.

BACKGROUND: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) can support lesion detection and characterization in breast MRI. Therefore, DWI is increasingly being incorporated into breast MRI protocols to address some of the shortcomings of routine clinical breast MRI. However, especially high b value DWI can be prone to intensity artifacts that can affect diagnostic image assessment. PURPOSE: To detect hyper- and hypointense artifacts on high b value DWI (b = 1500 s/mm2) using deep learning, employing either a binary classification (artifact presence) or a multiclass classification (artifact intensity) appr

False-positive cervical lymph nodes on FAPI PET/CT after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer: a case report.

A 49-year-old woman with cT3N1M0 stage IIIA HER2-positive invasive breast cancer is described in this retrospective case report. After six cycles of TCHP neoadjuvant chemotherapy, breast MRI confirmed that the primary lesion and axillary lymph nodes achieved radiological complete response. However, newly enlarged lymph nodes in levels II and III of the left neck were detected by neck ultrasound and contrast-enhanced CT. Subsequent 18F-FAPI-04 PET/CT revealed significantly elevated tracer uptake in these cervical lymph nodes, with a maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of 18.2, which was

Early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer in neurofibromatosis type 1: a case report with literature review.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant disorder associated with an increased risk of malignancies, particularly breast cancer at a younger age. We report the case of a 48-year-old woman with clinically diagnosed NF1 who presented with a left breast mass detected during routine screening. Physical examination revealed numerous café-au-lait macules and cutaneous neurofibromas distributed over the trunk and extremities. Imaging findings were classified as BI-RADS 4B-4C. Following intraoperative confirmation of malignancy, total mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy were perfo

Incidental Appendiceal Adenocarcinoma Discovered After Ileocecectomy for Recurrent Small Bowel Obstruction: A Case Report.

We report a case of moderately differentiated appendiceal adenocarcinoma discovered on histopathologic examination following ileocecectomy for recurrent SBO in a woman in her early 50s with a history of stage III rectal adenocarcinoma in remission. Notably, serial surveillance imaging over two years had demonstrated a radiographically normal appendix prior to the obstructive presentation. Immunohistochemical and histopathologic features confirmed a metachronous primary malignancy rather than metastatic recurrence. This case exemplifies the diagnostic challenge posed by occult appendiceal neopl

The risk of not imaging: a three-scenario framework for justification.

A recurring argument in radiological protection holds that the radiation risk of an imaging examination must be weighed against the clinical risk of not performing it. The argument is applied inconsistently, and evidence on that clinical risk remains sparse compared with the extensive literature on radiation risk. This asymmetry masks an important distinction: the clinical risk of not imaging is not uniformly high. We propose a three-scenario framework for medical imaging, illustrated using computed tomography. In Scenario 1, the harm of withholding or delaying imaging is well documented and s

Giant Cell Tumor of the Lateral Malleolus Treated by Tumor Excision and Reconstruction using A 180° Rotated Proximal Fibular Autograft - A Rare Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of bone was first described by Sir Astley Cooper in 1818. It is one of the most frequently encountered benign bone tumors in orthopedic practice and is characterized by a significant risk of local recurrence following surgical treatment. GCT involving the distal fibula, particularly the lateral malleolus, is extremely rare, accounting for <1% of all cases. Various treatment modalities have been described for lateral malleolus GCT, including tumor excision, ankle arthrodesis, reconstruction with ipsilateral proximal fibular graft, and autograft or allograft

Proton-density fat-saturated non-contrast MR imaging is comparable to post-contrast MR imaging for revealing wrist synovitis.

OBJECTIVES: Standard MR imaging (MRI) for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients comprises a post-contrast T1-fat-saturated (T1FS + C) sequence to detect wrist synovitis and tenosynovitis. This study investigates whether non-contrast sequences can provide similar information to post-contrast imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-seven RA patients (F/M:  64/13; age: 61 ± 12 years) underwent MRI examination of the most symptomatic wrist on a 3.0-T system. Axial T1FS + C as well as proton-density imaging with fat-saturation (PDFS) and T2-weighted imaging with fat-saturation (T2FS) sequences were p

Radiological assessment and heavy metal variability in Red Sea coastal sediments using integrated geochemical and geophysical techniques.

This study aims to conduct an integrated assessment of radionuclides (238U, 232Th, and 40 K), potentially toxic elements (including Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Rb, Br, Co and Ni), and geochemical composition (metals) in coastal sediments of the Red Sea. In addition, geophysical datasets (including Bouguer gravity) were integrated with statistical approaches. PCA (Principal Component Analysis) is a multivariate statistical method applied to the measured geochemical and radiological datasets to explore potential sources of metals and radioactive isotopes, as well as to find correlations and patterns. CXR-CoRe: Two-Stage View- and Section-Aware Study-Level Chest X-ray Report Retrieval.

Reliable linkage of chest X-ray examinations to corresponding reports is fundamental to large radiology archives. Yet heterogeneous view composition and similar image-report content across examinations, particularly longitudinal records, make exact content-based linkage difficult. Global vision-language representations support archive-wide search but can obscure view-specific and section-level correspondences, whereas exhaustive fine-grained interaction is computationally costly. We propose CXR-CoRe, a two-stage view- and section-aware framework. Stage 1 combines learned view embeddings with r

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Fibrous hamartoma of infancy is a rare benign mesenchymal soft-tissue tumor characterized by a triphasic organoid architecture. Because its clinical and imaging features are variable, fibrous hamartoma of infancy may mimic inflammatory, vascular, benign fibro-fatty, intermediate, or malignant soft-tissue lesions. CASE DESCRIPTION: We report an approximately 6-month-old boy with a painless, progressively enlarging subcutaneous mass in the right axillary/medial upper-arm region. The lesion was initially interpreted as BCG-associated lymphadenitis; aspiration yielded no purulent ma
