Resting-state functional connectivity in adolescents with binge eating disorder: An exploratory null study.

OBJECTIVE: Binge eating disorder (BED) commonly emerges during adolescence, yet little is known about intrinsic brain network function in this developmental period. This study examined resting-state functional connectivity (FC) in adolescents with BED. METHOD: 19 adolescents with BED and 20 sex-, age-, and BMI Z-score-matched controls (12-18 years) underwent resting-state fMRI. FC was examined using an exploratory ROI-to-ROI analysis, and eating disorder symptoms were assessed using the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q). RESULTS: No between-group differences in ROI-to-ROI fun

What Users Say About Reimbursable Digital Therapeutics in Germany: Large-Scale App Store Review Analysis Using a Large Language Model.

BACKGROUND: In 2019, Germany introduced a unique regulatory framework for digital therapeutics (DTx), termed digital health applications (DiGAs) in Germany, with the goal of integrating evidence-based DTx into statutory health care. DTx are eligible for reimbursement by statutory health insurance if manufacturers demonstrate positive health care effects, such as improved health status or health literacy, in a controlled study setting. Although regulatory evaluation primarily relies on manufacturer-conducted studies, these studies do not fully capture how users experience and use DiGAs in every

An adaptive, variable-length test for certifying electroencephalographic spike-detection skill: A retrospective feasibility study.

OBJECTIVE: Determining whether an individual reader has sufficient electroencephalographic (EEG) spike-detection skill is challenging due to limited expert agreement. We evaluated whether modeling skill in interpretable signal-detection terms-discrimination ability separate from response tendency-could power an adaptive, variable-length test that can reliably and efficiently assess reader competence. METHODS: We analyzed a multirater dataset containing 20 521 EEG segments and 2574 rater sessions. Case signal was estimated from multirater labels, and each reader was modeled using signal-detect

Myositis Ossificans Affecting the Rotator Cuff Muscles and Proximal Humerus: A Rare Clinical Entity.

INTRODUCTION: Myositis Ossificans (MO) is a benign condition characterized by the formation of non-neoplastic heterotropic ossification in extra-skeletal soft tissues. It is generally associated with preceding trauma; however, cases of atraumatic MO have also been reported in the literature. While the elbow is the most common site, MO can occur anywhere in the body and is particularly common in young male athletes in the second to third decade of life. MO involving the rotator cuff muscles is an extremely rare entity with its pathology poorly understood till date. In such cases where it origin

Weight-Bearing cone-beam CT in lower-limb osteoarthritis: Quantitative Assessment, clinical Applications, and Future Directions.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of joint pain and functional limitations in the elderly. Conventional imaging methods, including weight-bearing radiography (WB-XR), non-weight-bearing CT, and MRI, provide valuable structural information but cannot fully characterize three-dimensional joint morphology and biomechanical changes under physiological loading conditions. Weight-bearing cone-beam computed tomography (WBCT) has emerged as a functional imaging modality that integrates three-dimensional imaging with weight-bearing acquisition, enabling comprehensive evaluation of lower-limb align

Artificial intelligence in ultrasound: divergent pathways, shared challenges.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in ultrasound is often reviewed as a unified field, though in practice it spans 3 distinct deployment environments: clinical radiology (traditional imaging) ultrasound, point-of-care users, and ultrasound education. The 3 environments share the same underlying AI methods but differ in image quality, operator skill, time allotted to scan, regulatory exposure, and acceptable failure modes. In clinical radiology ultrasound, FDA-cleared decision support is routine for breast and thyroid lesion characterization, obstetric biometry, and cardiac quantification, and emergi

Rupture of Left Ventricular Aneurysm in Infant: Case Report.

Rupture of ventricular aneurysm is an unusual pathology in children. This case describes a preterm infant who had been in the hospital since birth due to necrotizing enterocolitis, which was complicated by narrowing of the ascending colon that required surgery. Throughout the entire period, the infant exhibited signs of infection, first caused by Staphylococcus haemolyticus and subsequently by Staphylococcus epidermidis. Several echocardiographic examinations did not reveal any significant changes; however, the final echocardiography revealed a structure connected to the left ventricular cavit

Masquerade Syndrome Presenting as Optic Neuritis and Retinitis Due to Pituitary Germinoma.

Masquerade syndrome is a collective term for various ocular diseases presenting with clinical features resembling intraocular inflammation. Delays in definitive diagnosis and treatment can not only lead to irreversible vision loss but also impact the patient's prognosis regarding survival. We report the case of a 26-year-old male patient who presented with impaired vision in the right eye, which had persisted for six months; neuroretinitis was diagnosed. Although infectious neuroretinitis was suspected, tests for pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Toxoplasma, Toxocara, and Bartonell

Probable vestibular paroxysmia mimicking benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of the superior semicircular canal in the presence of a neurovascular conflict: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Positional vertigo is a frequent complaint in otology and vestibular physiotherapy, arising from functional or structural causes affecting the peripheral or central vestibular systems. Although benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common form, other etiologies such as vestibular paroxysmia (VP), central positional vertigo, or vertebrobasilar insufficiency should be considered. Recognizing the specific features and differential diagnosis of these conditions is crucial for accurate assessment. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 52-year-old French woman p

Superficial Femoral Artery Pseudoaneurysm after Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Uncommon Vascular Complication.

INTRODUCTION: Total knee arthroplasty is widely recognized as a major advancement in orthopedic surgery, yet vascular complications, though rare, remain a clinically significant concern. While the popliteal artery is most frequently affected, isolated involvement of a more proximal vessel such as the superficial femoral artery (SFA) has been documented, although only in scattered case reports. Reported events range from hemorrhage to pseudoaneurysm formation and may occur months after surgery, making timely recognition of these injuries essential for preventing limb-threatening consequences.

Diagnostic challenges in posterior circulation ischemic stroke presenting with acute dizziness and vertigo.

Posterior circulation stroke (PCS) is a common and clinically important cause of acute dizziness and vertigo, accounting for approximately 20-25% of all acute ischemic strokes. Because PCS frequently presents with non-specific, fluctuating, or isolated vestibular symptoms, it is about three times more likely to be initially missed in emergency care than anterior circulation stroke (ACS), with important consequences for acute treatment, secondary prevention, and patient outcomes. Diagnostic evaluation is further complicated by the low sensitivity of prehospital stroke scales for posterior fossa
