Changes in Mood and Tryptophan Metabolism Following a 12-Week Endurance Exercise Combined with Time-Restricted Eating in Healthy Adults.

Background: The interplay between time-restricted eating (TRE), endurance exercise, mood, and tryptophan (TRP) metabolism has not been thoroughly examined. This study evaluated whether changes in psychological well-being co-occurred with changes in serum kynurenine metabolites during a combined TRE and exercise intervention and performed exploratory analyses of kynurenine metabolism. Methods: Seventy-one healthy adults participated in a 12-week endurance training program combined with a 10 h TRE window. Assessments included the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Mood Adjective Checklist, body comp

Correlation Properties of Heart Rate Variability for Exercise Intensity Monitoring and Prescription During Constant-Load Cycling: A Comparison With Traditional Physiological Variables.

This study investigated the applicability of the short-term scaling exponent alpha 1 of detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA-a1) as a marker of internal load during constant-load cycling. The aim was to explore DFA-a1 dynamics across the moderate, heavy, and severe intensity domains and assess its utility for both monitoring and prescribing exercise intensity. Sixteen untrained adults (3 women) performed an incremental cycling stage test and three constant-load sessions (moderate, heavy, and severe). Gas exchange kinetics, blood lactate concentration, and heart rate (HR) were measured. Ventilat

Investigating the relationship between dynamic balance, agility, and walking speed in female basketball players compared with non-active females.

Physical activity levels among young Saudi female college students are suboptimal, which may be associated with key aspects of physical performance, including walking speed, agility, and dynamic balance. Although interest in female sports is increasing, limited research has examined associations among these parameters in Saudi females. This study examined the relationships among physical activity, walking speed, agility, and dynamic balance in female basketball players and non-active participants. A cross-sectional study involved 38 healthy females aged 20 to 26 years: 18 basketball players an

The roles of autonomous motivation and self-compassion on changes in eating disorder pathology across inpatient eating disorder treatment.

PURPOSE: Autonomous motivation and self-compassion may potentially influence outcomes in eating disorder treatment. Self-compassion may reduce criticism and shame, which have been implicated in the maintenance of anorexia nervosa. This study examined whether baseline autonomous motivation and self-compassion, and their interaction, were associated with changes in eating disorder symptoms in women with anorexia nervosa receiving inpatient treatment. METHODS: Participants were 56 women (M age = 23.8, range = 16-52 years) diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and admitted to an inpatient eating disord

Mapping mental health complexity in esports: an exploratory psychosocial network approach.

BACKGROUND: The rapid rise in popularity of esports has brought increased attention to the unique mental health challenges faced by esports players, yet research in this area remains in its infancy. Early research suggests a substantial mental health burden and has examined associations between esports-specific stressors, mental health, and sleep disturbances. However, much of this work has relied on traditional methodologies, providing limited insight into how affective, psychosocial, sleep-related, and esports-specific indicators are organised within this competitive performance environment.

Pre-sleep milk-derived proteins do not impair sleep or recovery in elite female athletes.

BACKGROUND: Sleep is essential for athlete recovery and performance, yet athletes frequently experience restricted or poor-quality sleep. Pre-sleep feeding (PSF) has emerged as a strategy to support recovery, but randomized, double-blinded, crossover trials comparing PSF macronutrient options on objective and subjective sleep outcomes in elite female athletes remain limited. METHODS: Twenty-five National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I female athletes (18-25 years old) were recruited; 21 completed the trial. In a randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled, crossover desi

Comprehensive behavioral phenotyping of male Sulf1-deficient mice reveals reduced locomotor activity, altered forelimb gait, and reduced prepulse inhibition.

Sulfatase 1 (Sulf1) is an extracellular sulfatase that regulates multiple signaling pathways by removing 6-O-sulfate from heparan sulfate. Although Sulf1 has established roles in development and cancer, its functions in the adult brain remain incompletely characterized. Recently we reported that Sulf1 is expressed in the nucleus accumbens, overlapping with dopamine D1 and D2 receptors, and that Sulf1 knockout (KO) mice showed altered reward and aversion learning. However, given that Sulf1 is expressed in many other brain regions, including the prefrontal cortex, midline thalamic nuclei, etc.,

A unified and domain-robust framework enables controllable multimodal brain MRI synthesis.

Multimodal magnetic resonance image (MRI) synthesis can shorten examinations, reduce cost, and furnish contrasts that are difficult or impossible to acquire, but current models remain hard to control and brittle to shifts in scanner, protocol, and pathology. We present a unified, domain-robust synthesis framework that modulates spatial carriers with physically informed, domain-stable statistical guidance. A balanced soft-plus-hard conditioning scheme enables a single model to perform diverse contrast mapping, while allowing smooth user adjustment of contrast weighting. Evaluated on 991 test su

Silent Hypoxemia in High-Altitude Pulmonary Edema: A Case Report.

We report a case of a trekker who ascended to Tilicho Lake (4919 m) from Kathmandu (1400 m) in 3 days. On day 3, he descended to Shree Kharka (4045 m). The following day, he trekked to Yak Kharka (4025 m) where, although he had no symptoms, he measured his own oxygen saturation (SpO2) at 72% in ambient air. Overnight, his SpO2 ranged from 75-80% on oxygen 2L/min via nasal cannula. The next day his SpO2 dropped to 47% while still on oxygen. He descended on horseback to Manang (3500 m), where his SpO2 was 70% on room air. He was diagnosed with high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). He was treated

Test-Retest Repeatability of [18F]FDG Uptake by Solid Tumors on PET/MRI: A Prospective, Multicenter Study Using the QIBA Protocol.

Prior oncologic PET/MRI repeatability studies have been limited by single-center designs, small cohorts, or select patient populations. Our primary aim was to estimate the test-retest repeatability of uptake metrics on [18F]FDG PET/MRI studies across a variety of cancer types. A secondary aim was to assess the impact of intersession μ-map variability on repeatability. Methods: In this prospective study involving 2 institutions with different PET/MRI scanners, subjects completing standard-of-care [18F]FDG PET/CT or MRI examinations were recruited to undergo 2 research [18F]FDG PET/MRIs (i.e., t

Neurobehavioural outcomes after term IUGR from adolescence to adulthood: a cross-species scoping review.

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is associated with long-term neurobehavioural alterations. This scoping review mapped evidence on neurobehavioural outcomes following IUGR in term-born humans and preclinical animal models. Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, six databases were searched from January 1985 to February 2025. Clinical studies were included if they assessed motor, cognitive, or anxiety outcomes in adolescents or young adults born at term with IUGR, small for gestational age (SGA), or low birth weight (LBW). Preclinical studies were included if IUGR was induced via placental insuf
