[Features of forensic medical examination in aesthetic dentistry].

The purpose of the work is to study the features of objective assessment of the morpho-functional parameters of teeth and dentition in forensic medical examinations in cases related to aesthetic dental treatment based on the materials of officially published court cases from 2013 to 2024. An analysis of 1005 court cases involving the infliction of harm to health during orthopedic dental treatment using fixed orthopedic structures revealed a significant increase in the number of expert examinations of the results of «aesthetic» dental treatment. In the period from 2013 to 2017, the share of exa

Dental Identification Utilizing Implant-Supported Fixed Prostheses in a Nearly Skeletonized Individual: A Case Report.

Forensic dental examination was performed on a nearly skeletonized decedent in whom both maxillary and mandibular complete dentures remained, an uncommon finding in deceased individuals. Careful manipulation of residual soft tissues permitted visualization of the underlying osseous and prosthetic components. Postmortem findings demonstrated extensive implant therapy in both arches, consisting of implant-supported fixed complete dentures retained by multiple endosseous implants. Antemortem dental records, including digital panoramic and periapical radiographs with treatment documentation, were

Lingual osseous choristoma of the posterior tongue: A case report.

Lingual osseous choristoma is a rare benign lesion characterized by ectopic mature bone within the soft tissues of the tongue, with just over 100 cases reported in the literature. Its clinical presentation is often nonspecific, making diagnosis challenging. A 45-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a slowly enlarging mass on the posterior dorsal surface of the tongue, initially noted during a routine dental examination. The lesion was asymptomatic, with no associated pain, dysphagia, or bleeding. Clinical examination revealed a firm, whitish, non-ulcerated mass suggestive of a fibroma

Mobile Imaging-Based Machine Learning for Dental Caries, Sealants, and Fluorosis: Protocol for a Cross-Sectional Model Development and Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: Assessing dental caries, sealants, and fluorosis is essential for public health surveillance, providing critical data to evaluate national prevention programs. Standard methods performed by dental professionals are often limited by affordability, accessibility, and scalability for both population-level and individualized assessments. Mobile health (mHealth) approaches to concurrently detect caries, sealants, and fluorosis have remained largely unexplored, especially at the population level. OBJECTIVE: This study leverages mHealth technologies that integrate computer vision using m

Evaluation of salivary calprotectin as a marker for screening periodontitis using a latex agglutination turbidimetric immunoassay system: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Biomolecules in body fluids such as gingival crevicular fluid and saliva are used for the diagnosis of periodontitis. Saliva is easy to collect and salivary biomarkers are useful in screening periodontitis. The suitable salivary biomarkers and their measuring system are important for screening periodontitis in mass dental examination. Therefore, this study examined the potential of few salivary biomarkers for screening and diagnosis of periodontitis and aimed to evaluate more effective biomarkers and their measuring methods in dental examination. METHODS: Ninety-three individuals

Oral health findings and dental behaviour in children with familial mediterranean fever: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autoinflammatory disease that affects children's emotional well-being due to recurrent pain attacks. It can significantly impact oral health and compliance during dental examinations. This study aimed to investigate whether there were differences between children diagnosed with FMF and healthy children in terms of dental findings (DMFT/dmft, gingival index, plaque index, bruxism, saliva pH), compliance with dental examination (Frankl behaviour scale), and parental dental anxiety (C-DAS). Additionally, the effects of age, gender, age of sympt

Bilateral Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis Secondary to Dental Infection-Induced Sinusitis: A Case Report.

Cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) is a rare but severe condition that often arises as a complication of head and facial infections. Sinusitis, particularly involving the sphenoid or ethmoid sinuses, is a common precursor. A five-year-old boy presented to the pediatric intensive care unit with fever, ear pain, and eyelid swelling. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed rare bilateral CST with significant intracranial arterial narrowing. Cultures from the ear grew Fusobacterium necrophorum. Subsequent dental examination identified multiple untreated carious lesions, pulpal necrosis, and abscesses. C

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw primary prevention: multidomain long-term intervention versus pre-bisphosphonate treatment standalone dental intervention. A retrospective multi-center comparative cohort study.

PURPOSE: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a serious adverse drug reaction mostly associated to the use of bone-modifying agents. Preventive dental strategies aim to reduce its risk, but the comparative benefit of structured long-term interventions versus a single pre-treatment dental visit remains unclear. This study assessed the impact of a structured long-term, multidomain dental prevention protocol compared with a single baseline dental assessment in patients receiving an oncological-based, high dose (HD) regime of Zoledronic acid (ZA). METHODS: Between 2012 and 2015,

Clinical Validity of the Oral Frailty Five-Item Checklist (OF-5) for the Diagnosis of Oral Hypofunction.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to clinically validate the Oral Frailty Five-item Checklist (OF-5) by clarifying the relationship between its score and the diagnosis of oral dysfunction, as well as its association with seven sub-items. BACKGROUND: Assessing oral frailty is important for preventing frailty in older adults. The recently developed OF-5 is anticipated as a convenient screening tool; however, its relationship with oral hypofunction, assessed through quantitative testing in dental clinics, has not been sufficiently verified. MATERIALS & METHODS: The study included 421 outpatients aged

Epidemiology of open and closed diastemata in equine cheek teeth and associations with periodontal pathology.

Cheek-tooth diastemata are a common dental abnormality in horses and are considered a major predisposing factor for periodontal disease. However, the influence of diastema type and anatomical location on disease severity remains incompletely understood. To determine the prevalence and distribution of open and closed cheek-tooth diastemata and evaluate their association with periodontal disease severity in horses, while assessing the influence of age, sex, jaw location and laterality, fifty equine cadaver heads obtained from an abattoir were examined. Diastemata were identified through visual a

Odontogenic Maxillary Sinusitis: A Case Report of Interdisciplinary Care in the Context of an ORL Emergency.

Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) represents an important cause of unilateral sinus disease and can lead to persistent symptoms and repeated courses of antibiotics if unrecognized. Prompt identification of a dental source is essential to prevent chronicity and avoid unnecessary interventions. We report the case of a 40-year-old woman who presented with a 3-week history of persistent right maxillary sinus pain, unresponsive to two antibiotic prescriptions. On examination, she had a buccal collection in the upper right maxilla, close to a previous Caldwell-Luc surgical window. She did not pr

Lip filler-related granulomatous inflammation mimicking oral pathology: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Injectable dermal fillers are widely used in esthetic practice for lip augmentation and perioral soft-tissue enhancement. Although delayed complications such as foreign-body reactions and filler migration are described in the dermatologic literature, their manifestation as oral lesions during routine dental examination is less commonly recognized. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 67-year-old woman had multiple firm, white, elevated nodules on the right lower labial mucosa approximately 1 month after receiving injectable dermal filler in the lip. The lesions were nonmobile, with intact overlyin
