ESR Essentials: Gynaecological causes of acute pelvic pain in women: a primer for emergent evaluation-practice recommendations by the European Society of Emergency Radiology.

Acute pelvic pain (APP) is a common presentation in women of all ages and has both gynaecological and non-gynaecological causes. In the emergency department, the suspected differential diagnosis dictates the chosen imaging modality. For premenopausal patients with APP, transabdominal ultrasound (TAUS) and transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) are first-line investigations with high sensitivity and specificity for ectopic pregnancy, adnexal torsion, and ovarian cysts and their complications. US may also be valuable in pelvic inflammatory disease. When a non-gynaecological cause is suspected, contrast-

Extraordinarily High 99m TcO4 - Activity in Meckel's Diverticulum Relative to the Stomach.

Meckel's diverticulum typically shows accumulation of 99m Tc-Pertechnetate ( 99m TcO4 - ) with an intensity lower than that of the stomach and appears simultaneously with or shortly after the stomach on Meckel's scan. We report a case of a 14-year-old boy with Meckel's diverticulum that demonstrated unusually early and intense radiotracer uptake-appearing before the stomach-and maintained markedly higher intensity than the stomach throughout the 99m TcO4 - scintigraphy examination.

Construction of Preoperative Diagnostic Model of Periapical Cyst by Multiparameter Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Pilot Study.

AIM: Due to the lack of a predictable and noninvasive method for distinguishing different types of apical periodontitis, it is difficult to estimate the actual prognosis of periapical cysts and the effectiveness of nonsurgical treatment for them. This pilot study aimed to establish a diagnostic model to differentiate periapical cysts and nonperiapical-cyst lesions based on parameters derived from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODOLOGY: Before endodontic microsurgery, MRI scans were performed for the patients with periapical lesions, including T2-weighted images (T2WI), noncontrast-enha

Case Series of Mandibular Glandular Odontogenic Cysts: Radiographic and Histopathological Evaluation.

Glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) have been previously documented in the literature as uncommon odontogenic cysts characterized by their aggressive nature and high recurrence rate. This study is aimed at documenting and analyzing the radiographic as well as the histopathological features of GOC in the mandible and correlating these characteristics to previously reported studies. This case series includes five male patients, aged between 32 and 50 years, who were interpreted using cone beam CT (CBCT) scans at the Oral Radiology Department of King Abdulaziz University Dental Hospital between 20

Histopathological analysis of 30 specimens of glandular odontogenic cyst.

Glandular odontogenic cysts (GOC) are relatively rare, and require differentiation from radicular cysts, dentigerous cysts, and central mucoepidermoid carcinoma of jawbone. We conducted clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical analysis to elucidate the relationship between the clinical behavior and histopathological features, as well as the origin of tissues and factors related to the development of GOC. Thirty specimens from 29 patients (19 males, 11 females; mean age 51.8, range 18-85 years) diagnosed histopathologically with GOC were studied. By location site, mandibular molar r

Myelomatous Pleural Effusion Revealing Underlying Plasma Cell Myeloma: An Uncommon Initial Presentation.

Myelomatous pleural effusion (MPE), an uncommon manifestation of plasma cell myeloma (PCM), is characterized by proliferation of neoplastic monoclonal plasma cells (PCs). The incidence of MPE in patients of PCM is scarce and often portends an aggressive disease course. We report the case of a 55-year-old male patient who presented with progressive dyspnea for three days along with complaints of nonspecific back pain for three months. The presence of bilateral pleural effusion on chest radiography prompted a clinical suspicion of tuberculosis, leading to pleural fluid analysis. Pleural fluid an

Pathologically Confirmed Dual Coronavirus Disease 2019-Associated Tracheobronchial Aspergillosis and Pulmonary Mucormycosis in a Non-Endemic Region: A Case Report.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to the expansion of the spectrum of invasive fungal infections beyond traditional immunocompromised populations. Although COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis is increasingly being recognised, COVID-19-associated mucormycosis remains rare, particularly in non-endemic regions. Concurrent COVID-19-associated invasive tracheobronchial aspergillosis and pulmonary mucormycosis with histopathological confirmation is exceedingly uncommon and poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Case presentation: We report the case of

A Near-Miss Event: Constrictive Pericarditis Misdiagnosed as Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction.

Constrictive pericarditis (CP) is often misdiagnosed, making echocardiography essential for initial evaluation. We present a case of misdiagnosed constrictive pericarditis in a 66-year-old female with rheumatoid arthritis who presented with shortness of breath. A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) performed by a cardiologist initially reported diastolic dysfunction, leading to a diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and she was discharged on diuretics. Despite adherence to therapy, she was readmitted multiple times for worsening symptoms over 18 months. A repeat

Relationship between the diameters of sphenopalatine foramen and alveolar antral artery and maxillary sinus volume: a retrospective cone beam computed tomography study.

BACKGROUND: It has been reported that the morphology and volume of the maxillary sinus (MS), which is the largest paranasal sinus, have an impact on the success of surgical procedures that are to be performed in the MS region. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sphenopalatine foramen (SPF) and alveolar antral arterial canal (AAAC) diameters and posterior dentition status (PDS) on maxillary sinus volume (MSV). METHODS: The study included cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of patients over 20 years of age with no impacted teeth in the MS, and in whom the entire MS marg
