[Sacrocoxitis due to common bacteria].

The authors report 11 cases of sacro-coxitis due to pyogenic bacteria observed over a period of seven years and emphasize that this is a disease of young women recently in labour, usually due to staphylococci which enter through the genital tract. The other methods of contamination are urinary, cutaneous and dental. The onset is usually acute, pseudoembolic and bacteremia. Whereas the diagnosis is purely clinical as X ray remains normal until the 15th or 20th day, all steps should be taken to identify the germ. With antibiotics, a cure is obtained without sequelae within 3 months. Surgery is o

[Radiophotographic and simultaneous bacteriological detection in an industrial group].

After carrying out a complex investigation of the workers of a confections factory the authors detected 2 new cases of tuberculosis (0,5 0/00), with the aid of radiophotography and another 2 cases (3,4 per 1000 subjects examined) by bacteriological investigation of the subjects that coughed. These last 2 cases were detected between those that had a normal thoracic aspect on the radiophotographic film alone. The observation of the authors allows to conclude that a bacteriological investigation of the suspects following radiophotography is not sufficient and that this type of investigation shoul

Tuberculous bronchitis in children.

Of 63 children with primary pulmonary tuberculosis who were examined bronchoscopically without particular regard for the usual criteria for the procedure, 18 (28.5 per cent) had visible tuberculous bronchitis.Certain endobronchial lesions resolved spontaneously, others responded to bronchoscopic treatment, and still others persisted despite all efforts.X-ray observations and clinical signs were of limited value in determining prior to bronchoscopy which child would have visible bronchial disease. Bronchoscopy is essential for both diagnosis and treatment of these lesions. Tuberculous bronchiti

Primary cutaneous coccidioidomycosis; the criteria for diagnosis and a report of a case.

Study was made of a case of coccidioidomycosis known to have resulted from primary inoculation of the organisms into the skin. Clinical observations and laboratory data were obtained at the time of clinical illness and for a period of five years thereafter. From the information thus obtained and correlation of it with what already was known of coccidioidomycosis, it was concluded that the disease originates very rarely as the result of primary cutaneous inoculation. In most instances lesions suspected to be of this type have actually resulted by dissemination of the organisms to the skin from

A FINAL REPORT ON THE CULTIVATION OF THE TUBERCLE BACILLUS FROM THE SPUTUM BY THE METHOD OF PETROFF.

In summing up the practicability of the Petroff method which is in reality a refinement and improvement upon well known methods, it has possibilities both from the standpoint of diagnosis and the study of the tubercle bacillus. It is not a difficult technique, but requires considerable attention to detail. The results should be better in larger series of cases carried on in laboratories where more time is available for close observation of the cultures during the early periods of development. It is the early transplanting of minute colonies even in the presence of contaminations which results
