16 (41%) out of 39 individuals referred by physicians because of sexual anomalies showed abnormal karyotypes; the corresponding figure for those investigated due to suspected autosomal aberrations was 37 out of 104 (36%). A special survey was also conducted among 51 mentally defective children with at least 3 malformations; 5 individuals (10%) were observed with chromosome abnormalities plus 3(6%) with rare variants. These results were compared with those presented in 26 other surveys reported in the literature.

This case report concerns a woman who presented an atypical clinical pattern with some features of encephalitis and other features of brain tumor. Cerebral angiography showed a unilateral cerebral mass with prominence of deep medullary veins, usually interpreted as evidence of a neoplasm. Brain biopsy was interpreted as astrocytoma. A 65-year-old woman had been observed for more than four years with bilateral chronic nongranulomatous uveitis and vitreous clouding of unknown cause. Her death was from reticulum cell sarcoma of the brain (microglioma). Both eyes were obtained post mortem. Human diploid fibroblast-like cells derived from four patients with the genetic disease ataxia telangiectasia and from two non-mutant donors were examined for the repair of X-ray induced strand breaks in DNA. Spectrophotometric examinations were performed on cerebrospinal and subdural fluids in subacute (five patients) and chronic (20 patients) subdural haematomas, with special reference to the diagnostic aid of CSF spectrophotometry. Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis is a relatively rare disease, of obscure aetiology, manifested by the presence of intra-alveolar laminated concretions distributed diffusely throughout the lungs. In all the recorded cases disease has been limited to the lungs and similar lesions have not been observed in other organs or tissues. The findings in a patient in whom lesions identical to those in the lungs were confirmed in the lumbar sympathetic chain and suspected to be present in the testes are recorded.

Seven male newborns of Chinese, Greek and Italian origin presented with severe hemolytic jaundice due to red cell glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency. In five, the hemolysis was precipitated by inhalation of mothball vapours in the home.
