Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis is a relatively rare disease, of obscure aetiology, manifested by the presence of intra-alveolar laminated concretions distributed diffusely throughout the lungs. In all the recorded cases disease has been limited to the lungs and similar lesions have not been observed in other organs or tissues. The findings in a patient in whom lesions identical to those in the lungs were confirmed in the lumbar sympathetic chain and suspected to be present in the testes are recorded.

Electrocardiograms of marathon runners were examined to study hypertrophy of the heart due to prolonged physical exertion and to differentiate this from hypertrophy due to various disease states, especially essential hypertension, aortic valvular disease and coarctation of the aorta. The electrocardiogram of the marathon runners was characterized by a slow cardiac rate, high voltage of the QRS complexes and T waves in the standard and/or precordial leads with normal R/T ratios. There was moderate enlargement of the heart as observed on teleoroentgenogram. These findings are characteristic of p

In a series of cases of Paget's disease of the bone, two types of cells not previously described were observed in material aspirated from bone marrow in areas of osteitis deformans. One type was mononuclear, the other was giant, multinucleated and syncytial. They have been identified as osteoblasts and osteoclasts, respectively. The identification was based mainly on correlation with the histologic picture of osteitis deformans and of normal-growing bones as seen in section studies. Both osteoblasts and osteoclasts were recovered in aspirated bone marrow material in other instances of metaboli

Study was made of a case of coccidioidomycosis known to have resulted from primary inoculation of the organisms into the skin. Clinical observations and laboratory data were obtained at the time of clinical illness and for a period of five years thereafter. From the information thus obtained and correlation of it with what already was known of coccidioidomycosis, it was concluded that the disease originates very rarely as the result of primary cutaneous inoculation. In most instances lesions suspected to be of this type have actually resulted by dissemination of the organisms to the skin from

Before proceeding to a discussion of the experiments upon cold-blooded animals, it is necessary to review briefly some of the work recently done with the bacillus of leprosy. The appearance of the bacillus in man and its behavior under artificial cultivation, and in the tissues of lower animals, should be considered in order that comparisons may be drawn. In their studies with the organism under cultivation, Duval and Gurd pointed out that the long, slender, and beaded appearance of the leprosy bacillus described by Hansen, in 1872, is lost when removed for several generations from the parent
