A digital mindfulness intervention improves sleep efficiency and heart rate variability in healthy adults.

To test whether a 10-day mindfulness program delivered through the ŌURA app improves sleep and stress in healthy adults, eighty-one adults were randomized to mindfulness (n = 49) or waitlist control (n = 32). Participants wore an Ōura ring during baseline, intervention/wait-list, and 4-week follow-up, recording sleep efficiency, total, deep, and light sleep, plus sleep-onset time. Questionnaires-Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), perceived stress scale (PSS), Copenhagen burnout inventory (CBI), and mindful attention awareness scale (MAAS)-were completed pre- and post-intervention and at fo

Compassion-focused group therapy improves depression, emotional eating, self-criticism and shame in people living with severe obesity: A single-centre, examiner-blind randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Severe obesity (defined as a BMI ≥ 40 kg m-2) is often accompanied by significant mental health co-morbidities such as eating disorders and depressive disorder and people living with severe obesity often experience feelings of shame, self-criticism and feelings of inferiority in relation to others. Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) was specifically designed for people with high levels of shame and self-criticism and aims to promote self-compassion which is regarded as an adaptive emotional regulation strategy. AIMS: To explore the effect on psychological outcomes of a 10-session (w

The Impact of BWM-T Versus Brief Mindfulness Induction on Stress, Anxiety and Self-Efficacy in University Students: Immediate and Short-Term Outcomes of RCT on Psychological Well-Being and Autonomic Balance.

BACKGROUND: University students face increasing levels of stress, anxiety, and self-efficacy, which may disrupt autonomic balance. While many mind-body interventions require sustained practice, growing evidence suggests that even a single session can yield immediate benefits. This randomized controlled trial compared the immediate and short-term effects of the brain wave modulation technique (BWM-T) and a brief mindfulness induction on psychological and physiological outcomes in university students. METHODS: 68 students were randomly assigned to either BWM-T or a brief mindfulness induction.

Analyzing the effect of theoretical mindfulness-nursing-education-programme on students' stress, resilience, and heart rate variability: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Stress adversely affects nursing students' well-being and clinical communication. This study examined the effects of a newly developed mindfulness-based nursing education programme (MINDNUEDU) on perceived stress, resilience, and heart rate variability (HRV) among nursing students. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, two-arm pre-post design was conducted at a university in Taiwan. Seventy nursing students were allocated to either an eight-week mindfulness intervention group (n = 36) or a standard curriculum control group (n = 34) based on academic scheduling constraints. Primary outcom

The mind-eat program leads to greater improvements in mindful, emotional, and external eating compared to intuitive eating-oriented education in adults with overweight or obesity: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Mindful eating interventions target behavioral and emotional processes involved in eating, but most structured programs have been evaluated in English-speaking settings and often compared with passive controls. This randomized controlled trial assessed the effectiveness of the Mind-Eat program, a structured mindfulness-based intervention, versus treatment as usual consisting of a therapeutic patient education (TPE) program grounded in intuitive eating principles, in adults with overweight or obesity. METHODS: In this single-center trial, 66 adults with overweight or obesity were r

Physiological adaptation during heart rate variability biofeedback in young adults: A survival analysis in high-stress academic environments.

Medical education is a high-demand environment where stress may disrupt autonomic and HPA-axis regulation. We examined symptom trajectories and adaptation during heart rate variability biofeedback (HRV-BF) in an academic setting. Forty-seven students were followed for ~3 months. The intervention group completed HRV-BF twice weekly (~30 min/session). Psychological outcomes (PSS, SAS, BAI, BDI) were assessed at baseline and follow-up, with clinically meaningful improvement defined as a ≥ 20% reduction. HRV/coherence indices were analyzed with mixed-effects models, and cortisol and secretory IgA

Effective Behavior Change Techniques for Successful Weight Loss and Weight Loss Maintenance Among Adults With Overweight and Obesity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Achieving and maintaining weight loss are challenging and require sustained lifestyle changes. This study examined which behavior change techniques (BCTs) support long-term weight outcomes among adults with overweight or obesity. We synthesized evidence from randomized controlled trials of behavioral interventions versus control or alternative interventions, focusing on nonclinical adults (BMI > 25) with ≥ 6-month follow-up, published between 2010 and 2025, that reported weight outcomes. Sixty-five studies (approximately 10,000 participants) evaluating 87 behavioral interventions targeting phy

Root Resective Procedures: A Case Series of Tooth Hemisection and Bicuspidization with Prosthetic Rehabilitation in Contemporary Dental Practice.

Background/Objective: Root resective procedures are well established tooth-preserving techniques used when pathology is confined to one root of a multirooted tooth or in the furcation area. Although in recent years implant therapy has become a standard approach in many cases, the rising incidence of peri-implantitis has renewed interest in classical conservative treatment alternatives, such as hemisection, root resection and bicuspidization. The aim of this study is to present clinical cases in which hemisection and bicuspidization were performed to maintain compromised molars in function and

Uterine Smooth Muscle Tumor of Uncertain Malignant Potential (STUMP): A Case Report.

Uterine smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that occupy a diagnostic gray zone between benign leiomyomas and malignant leiomyosarcomas. Owing to their low incidence and overlapping clinical, radiological, and histopathological features, STUMPs pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and are frequently identified only after surgical intervention for presumed benign disease. We report the case of a 39-year-old Mexican woman with a two-year history of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and severe dysmenorrhea. Preoperative imagi

Early Recurrence of Non-neuroendocrine Primary Cutaneous Mucinous Carcinoma of the Eyelid After Surgical Excision: A Case Report.

Primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma (PCMC) is a rare malignant cutaneous adnexal neoplasm prone to local recurrence. Neuroendocrine differentiation has been recognized in a subset of these tumors, and emerging evidence suggests that its presence may be associated with differences in clinical behavior and prognosis. Reports characterizing neuroendocrine differentiation in eyelid PCMC remain limited. A 47-year-old man underwent excision of a chalazion-like mass of the right upper eyelid at another clinic, and histopathologic examination revealed mucinous carcinoma. Systemic evaluation found no

[Expert consensus on the operational protocol for radionuclide pulmonary ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy of pulmonary thromboembolism].

Radionuclide pulmonary ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) imaging is an important non-invasive tool for diagnosing pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) and is used for screening, follow-up, and assessment of treatment response of PTE and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). Currently, hospitals in China differ in their use of planar and tomographic acquisition methods for V/Q imaging, and interpretation requires a high level of expertise among nuclear medicine physicians. After surveying the nuclear medicine departments of multiple hospitals and holding expert discussions, the working gr
