Labial salivary gland biopsy specimens from 111 patients evaluated for Sjögren's syndrome (SjS) were examined histopathologically with particular attention to the degree of lymphoid cell infiltration with or without the formation of epimyoepithelial islands, fibrosis and atrophy with fatty replacement. These cases were divided into groups, and the histological findings were compared. Sixty patients with Parkinson's disease underwent sterotaxic surgery in Edinburgh between 1965 and 1967, and were examined every 2 years for a total follow-up period of 10 years. Although stereotaxic surgery had been extremely effective in treating tremor and rigidity, the other manifestations of Parkinson's disease were noted to progressively affect more patients at each follow-up examination. L-dopa therapy was instituted in 36 patients after 1968. The effect of L-dopa on bradykinesia was remarkable, but the long-term benefit on the other manifestations of Parkinson's disease was negligible.

Four children aged (11.7-13.5 yr) with protracted growth retardation related to Crohn's disease, received a 6-wk period of continuous elemental enteral alimentation with no other form of treatment. In a comparative, prospective, open randomised clinical study, the efficacy and tolerance of cefaclor (3 x 500 mg) and amoxicillin (3 x 750 mg) in the treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI) were investigated and compared. A total of 110 patients (51 males and 59 females) age 10 to 83 years were treated for a period of five to 14 days (average 10 days). Fourteen hyperthyroid patients (11 men, three women), ages 28-66, were followed with serial measurements of serum thyroid hormone levels for 1 mo after therapy with I-131. Twelve patients had diffuse toxic goiters (25--70 g in size); two patients had multinodular glands (40--100 g). The hemodynamic effects of oral hydralazine were investigated in ten patients (nine in NYHA Class IV and one in Class III) with chronic refractory heart failure. With hemodynamic monitoring, adequate oral doses of hydralazine (50 or 75 mg) were determined and then administered every six hours. Since February 1969 carotid sinus nerve stimulators have been implanted in 13 patients with intractable, incapacitating angina pectoris, unrelieved by medical management and, in some cases, revascularization procedures. Four patients died, one on the third postoperative day, the others at 15, 31 and 49 months postoperatively. Two other patients sustained myocardial infarcts, at two weeks and two months postoperatively. Complications were few and transient.
