OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of radiographer-performed ultrasound examination as a routine investigative procedure in a urological out-patient clinic.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 151 patients attending a District General Hospital Urological Out-patient Department underwent an ultrasound examination in the clinic.
RESULTS: Diagnosis by ultrasound was achieved in 93% of patients. The remaining patients underwent further investigations. Two (1%) patients with normal scans had small bladder tumours. Subsequent intravenous urography in these individuals showed normal upper tracts.

A case of retrovesical hemangiopericytoma is reported. The patient was a 44-year-old woman with right lumbago. Cystoscopy showed extra-vesical compression in the area from the trigone to right wall of bladder. The histological examination of the specimen obtained with ultrasound-guided transvaginal biopsy revealed hemangiopericytoma. The combination of prostate specific antigen (PSA) and transrectal ultrasonography was used to detect recurrent cancer in the prostatic fossa after radical prostatectomy. A total of 43 patients with persistently elevated PSA levels and negative bone scintigraphy following radical prostatectomy underwent digital rectal examination and transrectal ultrasonography. Various alternatives exist for the treatment of bladder outlet obstruction due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Asymptomatic microscopic hematuria is a common finding that demands urologic evaluation. Of the 236 patients over the age of 40, 6.8% were found to have a genitourinary cancer, while 27.5% had other significant urologic disease. However, 52.1% of the patients had unknown etiology of microscopic hematuria and 13.6% had insignificant urologic lesions. We report a rare case of primary epithelial bladder tumor in a thirteen-year-old boy. Histologically, the tumor was that of a solitary and papillary transitional cell carcinoma, grade 1. A case report of primary osteosarcoma of the bladder is herein presented. A 75-year-old man presented with asymptomatic macrohematuria. Cystoscopic examination revealed a large tumor with a broad base arisen on the anterior wall. Pelvic computed tomographic scan showed multiple calcifications in the tumor itself.
