Willingness to Receive Latent Tuberculosis Infection Treatment Among Migrants in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Over 80% of tuberculosis cases in the United States are due to reactivation of untreated latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), most of whom were foreign born. LTBI treatment can greatly lower the risk of progression to active TB disease, and shorter treatment regimens increase the potential of migrants and other persons in vulnerable conditions, to complete treatment. We conducted across-sectional study to assess willingness to complete a one-month course of LTBI treatment among internal and international migrants living in Tijuana, BC, Mexico, and to identify factors associated with treatment

Grade 3 Pulmonary Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis Diagnosed by Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy: A Case Report.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is a rare, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by angiocentric and angiodestructive infiltrates that most commonly involve the lungs. We report a case of a 38-year-old female with a history of latent tuberculosis who presented with a 3-day history of fever, productive cough, bilateral lower extremity edema, and painless lower extremity skin lesions. Initial imaging revealed bilateral pulmonary nodules, and an extensive infectious workup was unrevealing. To obtain diagnostic tissue from peripheral lesions, she underwen

Machine Learning Models for Predicting Latent Tuberculosis Infection Risk in Close Contacts of Patients with Pulmonary Tuberculosis - Henan Province, China, 2024.

INTRODUCTION: We explored risk factors for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and developed a risk prediction model using machine learning algorithms. METHODS: Patients with active pulmonary TB in months 3 to 6 of anti-TB treatment in Henan Province, China, July-September 2024 were selected as index cases. Close contacts identified through epidemiological investigation underwent tuberculin-purified protein derivative testing to determine LTBI status. Face-to-face questionnaires were conducted to collect epidemiological data. The dataset was divided into training and testing sets (6:4), usin

Epidemiological trajectories and predictive modeling of latent tuberculosis prevalence in South Asia: an in-depth global burden of disease analysis (1990-2021) with advanced forecasting to 2050.

BACKGROUND: Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) remains a critical reservoir for the global tuberculosis (TB) epidemic, particularly in South Asia, where high population density and socioeconomic disparities amplify its burden. However, LTBI epidemiological trajectories and long-term forecasts have received limited attention. This study characterizes LTBI prevalence trends in South Asia from 1990 to 2021 and forecasts prevalence to 2050 to inform targeted interventions. METHODS: We analysed age-standardised LTBI prevalence rates (ASPR per 100 000 population) from the Global Burden of Disease

Detection of Latent Tuberculosis in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Patients on Dialysis Using the Cy-TB Test: A Hospital-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

Background Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) represents a major health burden in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on hemodialysis due to severe immunosuppression. Current diagnostic methods have limitations in this population. The Cy-TB test is a novel immunological assay for detecting TB infection, but its performance in patients with CKD undergoing dialysis is unknown. Objectives The primary objective was to estimate the prevalence of LTBI in CKD patients on maintenance hemodialysis using the Cy‑TB skin test and to describe its agreement with interferon‑gamma release assay (IGRA) amo

Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis reveals novel plasma biomarkers and metabolic pathway dysregulation in latent tuberculosis infection.

UNLABELLED: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health threat, and latent TB infection (LTBI) serves as a significant reservoir for new cases. Current diagnostic methods have limitations in accuracy and specificity. This study aimed to identify novel plasma biomarkers for LTBI by integrating metabolomics and transcriptomics. Plasma samples from healthy controls (HC) and LTBI patients were analyzed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)/MS. We identified distinct metabolic signatures characterizing LTBI, and a diagnostic model based on five key metabolites-margaroylglycine, N-palm

Comparative Diagnostic Performance of TST and IGRAs in the Diagnosis of Latent Tuberculosis Infection: A Systematic Review and Diagnostic Meta-Analysis.

Background: Patients with latent tuberculosis infection are mainly asymptomatic, but they still carry a notable risk of developing active TB, particularly when the host becomes immunosuppressed. Hence, appropriate diagnosis and management for LTBI are essential. Tuberculin skin test (TST) and interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) are among the most commonly utilized methods for detecting LTBI. Until now, no agreement has been established regarding the most effective diagnostic test, either TST or IGRA, so our study aims to evaluate the diagnostic utility of TST versus IGRA in detecting LTBI.

Evaluation of a Fluorescence Immunoassay-Based IGRA for Latent Tuberculosis Diagnosis: A Simplified, Cost-Effective Alternative.

Approximately 25% of the global population is estimated to have latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), with a 5-10% lifetime risk of progression to active disease. Although interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) are widely used for LTBI diagnosis, their high cost and operational complexity limit large-scale implementation in resource-limited settings. This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of a low-complexity, rapid, fluorescence-based point-of-care assay, ichroma IGRA-TB, for LTBI detection. A total of 300 participants enrolled at TB Screening and Treatment Centers and the Dhaka Hosp

The association between dietary inflammatory index and latent tuberculosis infection: Confounding role of country of birth.

BACKGROUND: Mounting evidence suggests that diet-induced inflammation may modulate the risk of Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI). However, the reported association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and LTBI remains inconsistent, and potential confounding factors such as country of birth have not been fully elucidated in previous studies. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the confounding effect of country of birth on the apparent association between DII and LTBI, using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A key hypothesis was tested that
