OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic factors of mucinous cystic neoplasm(MCN).
METHODS: One hundred and thirteen patients with MCN comfirmed by histological examination admitted in People's Liberation Army General Hospital from January 1994 to June 2015 were analyzed, including 21 male and 92 female patients with mean age of (50.2±14.5) years. Forty-eight patients had incidental discovery of their cystic neoplasm for another reason, 65 patients were symptomatic, and abdominal pain or distension was main clinical symptom. Among 113 patients with MCN, 75

Insulinomas are functional neuroendocrine pancreatic tumors rarely encountered in pediatric pathology. Insulinomas are usually solitary and sporadic, but may occur in association with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1. Whipple's triad-hypoglycemia, simultaneous compatible adrenergic and/or neurological signs, and relief of symptoms upon the administration of glucose-remains the fundamental diagnostic tool. We report a case of insulinoma in an 11-year-old boy with malnutrition and mild psychic retardation. History revealed neuroglycopenic symptoms associated with hypoglycemia that returned to

INTRODUCTION: Solid Pseudopapillary Tumor of the pancreas (SPT) is a rare pancreatic tumor and represents 1-3% of all pancreatic tumors. It usually presents in young females with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and abdominal fullness. The first case report was documented in 1959 and since then multiple case reports have been documented on the various surgical approaches for SPT. However, there are not many reported cases where surgery has been performed on SPT with portal hypertension.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: In our case report, a 19 year old girl presented with a mass in the left side of the

The current case report presents a rare complication of a significant pancreatic tail necrosis following proximal splenic artery embolization in a 32-year-old male patient involved in a motorcycle accident. Proximal angiographic embolization of the splenic injury after trauma is a widely accepted method with excellent success rate; however, possible complications may occur and has been described in the literature. Nevertheless, only a few case reports pertinent to clinically significant pancreatic tail necrosis after the SAE has been reported. Thus, we add a case report to the scarce literatur

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this report is to present results of the radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy (RAMPS) procedure in 78 patients from a single center.
METHODS: Seventy-eight patients had RAMPS procedure over 13 years. A database dealing with RAMPS for adenocarcinoma of the pancreas was constructed so that it could be converted into a set of tables. Each table covered one element of the subject. The database was populated from clinical records of patients who had a RAMPS procedure from 1999 to 2013.
RESULTS: Fifty-six patients had anterior RAMPS and 22 had posterior RAMPS.

INTRODUCTION: Cystic lymphangiomas of abdomen has mostly involved mesentery and retro peritoneum that should be considered as a differential diagnosis of abdominal masses. Pancreatic lymphangiomas were extremely rare that should be differentiated from neoplastic pancreatic cysts. Patients have commonly presented with epigastric pain and a relevant palpable epigastric mass.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old lady who has presented with epigastric pain, then during investigations, a cystic tumor which located in the tail of pancreas, has found. Whereas definite diagnosis of tumor with routine pro

Pheochromocytoma is primarily derived from the adrenal medulla. The majority of extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma cases occur in the superior para-aortic region and para-adrenal area. However, pheochromocytoma originating from the pancreas is rare. The present study reports the cases of three patients who had no history of hypertension but were post-operatively diagnosed with pheochromocytoma located in the pancreas. Of the three patients, two were admitted to hospital due to abdominal pain, and imaging examinations revealed a soft-tissue lesion in the head of pancreas. Local resection of the pan

Minimal invasive surgery is growing rapidly in vast fields of abdominal surgery. Nowadays, due to the development of laparoscopic instruments and improvement of surgical technique, laparoscopic pancreas surgery is becoming more widely adopted. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy has now become a standard procedure for the benign or borderline malignant tumor located in body or tail of pancreas, but laparoscopic spleen and splenic vessel preserving distal pancreatectomy is still a technically demanded operation. In this multimedia article, we will demonstrate our technique of laparoscopic spleen

Solid Pseudopapillary Tumour (SPT) is a rare and distinctive pancreatic exocrine neoplasm. Even Rarely, such primary SPT may originate from ectopic pancreatic tissues. We are hereby presenting one such unique case, where a 50-year-old female presented with pain and a mid-abdominal lump. Radiology revealed a well-defined outline located adjacent to the tail of pancreas. The excised mass was 19×14×7cm in dimension having zones of haemorrhage, necrosis and cystic spaces filled with necrotic debris. Microscopic examination confirmed the diagnosis of SPT. SPT originating in extrapancreatic location

A 68-year-old female patient was admitted to our center due to anorexia and epigastric pain for 2 months. Plain abdominal CT revealed a splenic space-occupying lesion; it had invaded the greater curvature of stomach and had blurred margin with the tail of pancreas. The longest diameter was about 10.7 cm. The lesion was considered to be malignant, accompanied with peritoneal nodules; the possibility of lymph node metastasis could not be ruled out. MRI revealed that the mass was located in front of the spleen, with irregular shape and unclear margin. Part of the mass invaded the greater curvatur

Pseudocysts account for approximately 70% of all cystic lesions of the pancreas. One of the most dangerous complications of pancreatic pseudocysts is bleeding into the cystic lumen; the most common cause of the bleeding is a splenic artery pseudoaneurysm rupture. This paper presents the case of a 37-year-old man treated surgically for a massive intra-abdominal haemorrhage caused by a splenic artery pseudoaneurysm rupture into the lumen of a tail of pancreas pseudocyst with its subsequent perforation into the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space. Peripheral resection of the pancreas toget

Solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) of the pancreas is one of the most uncommon histotypes of all exocrine pancreatic neoplasms. Disorganization of E-cadherin and β-catenin mutations, two key components of the Wnt signal transduction pathway, has been implicated in the development of SPT, but not other pancreatic tumors. Loss of E-cadherin/β-catenin proteins and tyrosine phosphorylation of E-cadherin/β-catenin have been postulated in cervical carcinogenesis and cancer invasion. A 38-year-old married woman, who had undergone brachytherapy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cervical cancer in Phil

Pheochromocytoma and ganglioneuroma form rare composite tumours of the adrenal medulla comprising less than 3% of all sympathoadrenal tumours. We present a case of intraoperatively detected adrenal medullary tumour of composite pheochromocytoma and ganglioneuroma diagnosed on histopathology, in a normotensive patient. A 50-year-old male with a past history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease presented with abdominal pain and significant weight loss since one month. Ultrasound and contrast-enhanced computed tomography abdomen revealed a large lobulated lesion in the distal body and tail of

Retroperitoneum follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is an extremely rare neoplasm. The treatment of this disease is not clear. A 49-year-old Chinese female who had been found a 4.4×4 cm retroperitoneum mass by routine physical examination was received radical resection. Pathology revealed an inflammatory pseudotumor-like follicular dendritic cell tumor. After five years follow-up, a new nodule was noted on the tail of pancreas by routine CT evaluation. Re-resection was performed and pathological examination found a spindle-cell tumor with a great quantity of froth histiocytes. Immunohisto

INTRODUCTION: Paragangliomas are tumors that arise from extraadrenal chromaffin cells and most of them are asymptomatic presenting with painless mass. Retroperitoneal paragangliomas are mostly benign with good prognosis; however, they can present with abdominal pain, palpable mass, or hypertensive episodes. Surgical resection is still the main treatment and necessary for histological assessment.
CASE REPORT: A 41 year old female patient presented with 6 months of loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness and breathlessness on exertion.. The patient's initial blood examination showed marked anem

Cystic tumours of pancreas account for 5-10% of all pancreatic neoplasms and serous tumours represent 1% among those tumours. Most of the serous tumours are benign and very rarely they infiltrate adjacent organs like liver and spleen. Herewith we present a rare case report of serous cystadenocarcinoma of pancreas in a 65-year-old woman. The tumour involved the body and tail of pancreas and contiguously invaded the spleen. The histopathology of tumour was similar to serous cystadenoma with mild nuclear hyperchromasia and atypia. The spleen showed tumour infiltration as microcysts diffusely infi

Pancreatic hepatoid carcinoma (HC) is an extremely uncommon neoplasm of pancreas that resembles hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We report a case of incidentally detected pancreatic HC combined with a serous microcystic cystadenoma, in a 47-year-old man, while he was being evaluated for renal calculi. Contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) of abdomen revealed a lesion with mild heterogeneous enhancement in the tail of pancreas and another proximal lesion having moderate enhancement, and a calculus in the neck of gallbladder. Serum chromogranin, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and CA 19-9 l

Primary angiosarcoma of the spleen is a rare neoplasm arising from endothelial cells. It is an aggressive neoplasm with a poor prognosis. We report a case of 61-year-old Caucasian man who presented with shortness of breath, anemia, leukocytosis, and thrombocytopenia. Ultrasound Sonogram (US) and Computed Tomography (CT) scans revealed a massively enlarged spleen with numerous enhancing hypodense lesions. The spleen was adherent to the omentum, retroperitoneum, and tail of the pancreas. Image-guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) revealed an atypical spindle cell lesion. Resection of the spleen a
