Sexual Function and Psychological Distress Across Surveillance, Colposcopy, and LEEP in Women with a History of High-Risk HPV Positivity: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/Objectives: High-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) positivity and its management may affect sexual function and psychological well-being, yet whether this burden differs across the successive steps of cervical management is unclear. We compared sexual function, quality of life, and psychological distress across three management steps-surveillance, colposcopy, and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). Methods: In this single-center cross-sectional study, 302 reproductive-age women with a history of hrHPV positivity (surveillance, n = 50; colposcopy, n = 177; LEEP, n = 75) c

Beyond thrombosis: a scoping review of patient-reported outcomes in antiphospholipid syndrome.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by thrombosis and pregnancy morbidity, with heterogeneous nonthrombotic manifestations that may substantially affect daily functioning and well-being. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) offer a direct assessment of symptom burden and quality of life but remain underutilized in APS. We performed a scoping review of PubMed from inception through July 2025 using terms related to APS and PROs (quality of life, fatigue, pain, depression, psychological well-being, and health surveys). We included eligible English-language studies

Managing the transition without hormones.

Perimenopause is a heterogeneous clinical transition characterized by fluctuating function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and a broad range of symptoms that frequently occur in overlapping clusters. Although menopause hormone therapy (MHT) is effective, many women require or prefer non-hormonal approaches, and several clinically relevant symptoms are not adequately addressed by MHT alone. This review summarizes evidence-based non-hormonal strategies for the management of vasomotor symptoms, sleep disturbance and fatigue, psychological and cognitive concerns, musculoskeletal complai

Traditional practices in the postpartum period among Syrian refugee and Turkish women: A comparative study.

In this study, we examined the use of traditional postpartum practices among Turkish and Syrian refugee women within the framework of Transcultural Nursing Theory. Data were collected from 260 women through face-to-face questionnaires on sociodemographic characteristics, reproductive history, and traditional practices. Our results showed cultural differences: Turkish women often sought professional care, obtained postpartum information from nurses or midwives, and practiced rituals such as the forty-day bath, yellow cloth covering, and religious ceremonies. Syrian women reported more pregnanci

Hydrogel Microneedles for Perioperative Applications: Drug Delivery, Biosensing, and Theranostic Translation.

Hydrogel microneedles provide access across the skin barrier for drug delivery and interstitial-fluid sampling. Their perioperative use depends on whether that access remains reliable during skin preparation, surgical positioning, and changes in tissue perfusion. This narrative review examines how material design affects delivered dose, measurement accuracy, and clinical feasibility. Human sampling studies establish feasibility for selected measurements; most therapeutic and integrated sensing applications remain at the preclinical stage or have been investigated in other clinical settings. Familial 46,XX Ovotesticular Differences in Sex Development Associated With an NR5A1 p.Arg92Trp Variant.

INTRODUCTION: NR5A1 encodes steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1), a key regulator of adrenal and gonadal development, steroidogenesis, AMH transcription, and the balance between pro-testicular and pro-ovarian pathways. The recurrent NR5A1 c.274C>T (p.Arg92Trp) variant is associated with SRY-negative 46,XX testicular and ovotesticular differences in sex development (DSD), but intrafamilial expression remains difficult to predict. Case Presentation We report a rare multigenerational familial presentation of SRY-negative 46,XX ovotesticular DSD associated with the heterozygous NR5A1 p.Arg92Trp variant.

[Intrauterine device placement during cesarean delivery: an immediate solution for postpartum contraception].

Contraception availability is a global challenge. For many women, intrauterine device (IUD) placement during cesarean delivery offers an effective solution. This procedure is highly recommended for women seeking long-term reversible contraception, particularly low-compliance patients or those with limited access to postpartum healthcare services. It is also an ideal option for women with contraindications to estrogen therapy, patients with a history of multiple cesarean sections, or those who have undergone previous uterine surgeries, such as myomectomy, which are risk factors for uterine perf

Access to Reproductive Health Services for Women Incarcerated in the United States: A Federal and State Policy Review.

INTRODUCTION: The United States (US) has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Women's incarceration has grown significantly since 1980, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. Most individuals experiencing incarceration are of reproductive age, yet studies have suggested limited access to reproductive health services. State and federal policies could be a mechanism to ensure access to reproductive health services during incarceration. METHODS: We conducted a policy review using WestLaw in August 2023 and March 2024 of federal and state statutes and regulations addressin

Symptomatic meningioma in the third trimester of pregnancy: a case report from Kenya.

Meningiomas, the most common primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors, are typically benign and hormonally responsive. They have a higher incidence in women, particularly during the reproductive years. Pregnancy may trigger rapid tumor progression and symptom onset due to elevated hormone levels. Although rare in pregnancy, meningiomas may adversely affect maternal and fetal outcomes, increasing the risk of complications such as preterm labor and gestational hypertension. Management strategies range from conservative monitoring to surgical intervention depending on gestational age, tumor si

Determinants of low birth weight among newborns in selected public hospitals in Southwest Ethiopia: a multi-center unmatched case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Low Birth Weight (LBW), defined as a birth weight below 2500 g, remains a major public health problem in Africa, including Ethiopia, where existing evidence is limited by narrow geographic and cultural coverage. This study aimed to identify determinants of LBW among newborns in public hospitals across Southwest Ethiopia. METHOD: A multi-center, facility-based, unmatched case-control study was conducted among LBW cases and controls with normal birth weight (1,2 ratio) recruited from three public hospitals. Eligible newborns were live, singleton births; those with congenital anomali

The INTERGROWTH-21st Preterm Postnatal Growth Standards are robust across geographical settings and time.

UNLABELLED: We investigated the robustness of the INTERGROWTH-21st Preterm Postnatal Growth Standards for monitoring the postnatal growth of preterm infants a decade after the original study that produced them. The INTERPRACTICE-21st Study assessed the early postnatal growth of all infants born preterm in 15 study sites across 14 countries. From this sample, we selected a 'standard-like' cohort of mother-newborn dyads as in the original study. Thus, we selected all singleton babies of healthy mothers, born between 27 and < 37 weeks' gestation, without congenital malformations, fetal growth res

Traffic-related air pollution links with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in Denmark: Developmental periods of susceptibility and sex-specificity.

Literature supports that higher early life exposure to air pollution arising from combustion, e.g., traffic exhaust and electric power generation, is associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, little is known about whether certain periods of exposure during fetal or childhood brain development are more important, i.e. whether there are critical windows of exposure, or whether associations differ by child sex. To address these gaps, we performed a population-based case-cohort study including singletons born 1981-2008 using Danish national registry data resources.

Progesterone levels on hCG trigger day and neonatal outcomes in fresh embryo transfers: a retrospective threshold analysis of GnRH antagonist versus agonist long protocols.

BACKGROUND: Elevated progesterone levels on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) trigger are known to adversely affect pregnancy outcomes in fresh embryo transfer (fET) cycles, but their impact on neonatal outcomes remains poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the association between progesterone levels on hCG trigger day and neonatal outcomes, and to explore the progesterone threshold, so as to provide reference for clinical decision-making. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 2, 201 patients who achieved singleton live births following fET between April 1

Gestational weight gain status and body satisfaction among Kurdish women: a cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Appropriate gestational weight gain (GWG) is crucial for predicting maternal and infant morbidity and mortality, and is considered a key indicator of maternal and child health status worldwide. While excessive GWG is a concern in high- income countries, the prevalence of obesity and inadequate GWG remains unclear among Kurdish women. This study aimed to assess the status of gestational weight gain and body satisfaction among Kurdish pregnant women. METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted among pregnant women attending antenatal care in two randomly selected primary healt

The Impact of Assisted Reproduction Technology on Breast Cancer Risk for Women With Infertility: Current Insights and Future Perspectives.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy among women worldwide. Because assisted reproduction technology (ART) commonly involves controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) and temporary increases in circulating estradiol and progesterone, its possible effect on long-term breast cancer risk remains an important clinical question. This narrative review, supported by a structured literature search of MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from January 2003 to March 2026, summarizes 31 primary observational studies with a cumulative reported sample exceeding 7.1 million participants

Single-Cell Metallomics of ovarian granulosa cells enables assessment of Low-Level heavy metal exposure associated with impaired human oocyte development.

The oocyte microenvironment, comprising ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) and follicular fluid (FF), sustains oocyte development with nutrients and regulatory signals but may also transfer heavy metals to the oocyte. While high concentrations of heavy metals in FF and blood have been associated with impaired oocyte development, the effect of low-level exposure on the oocyte remains unclear, partly due to the analytical challenges in measuring low-level heavy metals in biological fluids. Here, we investigated the associations between low-level heavy metal exposure and oocyte development. Using a hi
