Fetal biometry and maternal characteristics for second trimester prediction of stillbirth.

INTRODUCTION: Small fetal size is the most important risk factor for stillbirth. To our knowledge, no previous study has considered combinations of mid-trimester measures of fetal size as predictors of stillbirth risk. The aim of this cohort study was to assess whether small fetal measurements by mid-pregnancy ultrasound, in conjunction with maternal factors, can predict the risk of stillbirth. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this historical cohort study, we identified 377 563 singleton pregnancies in the Swedish Pregnancy Register between 2014 and 2021, with delivery at ≥22+0 gestational weeks with

Prenatal ultrasound prediction of coarctation of the aorta: a nomogram for risk stratification.

BACKGROUND: Coarctation of the aorta is one of the most common congenital heart malformations, accounting for approximately 7% of all live births with congenital heart disease. It is crucial to make a definitive prenatal diagnosis as it can inform clinical treatment decisions. OBJECTIVE: The diagnostic criteria for coarctation of the aorta are still controversial, and there is currently no risk nomogram available to assess the probability of coarctation of the aorta using routine ultrasound parameters. We explored the prenatal diagnostic efficacy of ultrasound parameters and established a nom

Maternal Race and Ethnicity and Mortality Differences Among Infants with Birth Defects: A Statewide Cohort Analysis in Texas.

OBJECTIVE: To understand better the differences in post-neonatal mortality (PNM) among infants with isolated birth defects by Hispanic and non-Hispanic (NH) Black vs NH White maternal race and ethnicity in Texas. STUDY DESIGN: We analyzed cases with isolated birth defects in the Texas Birth Defects Registry born during 1999-2017. The association between maternal race and ethnicity and PNM (death during day 28-364) was assessed using Cox regression. Analyses were stratified across education levels and repeated among other subgroups (eg, those age ≥25). To understand if associations persisted a

Analysis of risk factors and early prediction model construction for gestational hypertension.

Gestational hypertension (GH), a prevalent pregnancy complication, requires early risk identification for timely intervention. This study assesses and compares traditional and placental function factors using multivariable logistic regression, random forest, and support vector machine (SVM) models to predict GH risk. We first compared the baseline information and pregnancy-related characteristics between normal pregnant women and those with GH. Then, we modeled the risk of GH based on traditional factors and placental function factors using multivariable logistic regression, random forest, and

The relationship between crowding in the delivery ward and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage.

INTRODUCTION: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a key concern in maternal health, with early identification important for preventing severe complications. In a crowded delivery ward, where the number of births exceeds the normal range, labor management, and PPH prevention may be compromised. Although previous research has mainly focused on crowding over the entire day, it remains unclear whether crowding in the hours surrounding birth influences PPH risk. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the association between delivery ward crowding, adjacent to birth, and PPH and to explore whether births d

European central hypoventilation syndrome consortium description of congenital central hypoventilation syndrome neonatal onset.

UNLABELLED: It is known that in most cases of congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS), apnoeas and hypoventilation occur at birth. Nevertheless, a detailed description of initial symptoms, including pregnancy events and diagnostic tests performed, is warranted in infants with neonatal onset of CCHS, that is, in the first month of life. The European Central Hypoventilation Syndrome Consortium created an online patient registry from which 97 infants (44 females) with CCHS of neonatal onset and PHOX2B mutation from 10 countries were selected. The typical pregnancy is characterized by p

A Case Report of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation After Intrauterine Fetal Demise.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a rare, life-threatening complication of pregnancy in which a hypercoagulable state develops secondary to the contact of tissue factor with circulating blood and causes widespread abnormal clotting. This pathological process disrupts normal blood flow, which can cause multi-organ dysfunction and is associated with very high maternal morbidity and mortality. Occurring in two phases, DIC begins with overactive clotting, which leads to the formation of blood clots within the vessels, and ultimately, the overactive clotting process uses up the body's

Early prediction of very and extreme preterm births using a one-class classification framework on electronic health records in UAE.

Very Preterm birth (vPTB) and extreme Preterm birth (xPTB) are the major concerns in maternal and child healthcare and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Machine learning methods have traditionally been used to predict preterm births (vPTB and xPTB). However, most medical datasets, including preterm births, are imbalanced in class distribution. Although data-balancing techniques can be employed, complications due to the limited sample size of the minority class are frequently encountered, leading to inconsistent results. This study adopted a novel approach by employing one-

Predicting the risk of threatened abortion using machine learning methods: a comparative study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Threatened abortion, a common pregnancy complication that often leading to abortion, is hard to predict due to its non-specific symptoms and difficulty in differentiating from other early pregnancy bleeding causes. Current diagnostic methods like serial ultrasounds and clinical monitoring are time-consuming and lack timeliness. To fill the gap in using advanced analytics for early detection and risk stratification, this study develops a machine learning (ML) model based on routine blood data to better predict threatened abortion, providing a reference for early detect

Oral absorption of semaglutide: pharmacokinetic modeling and molecular dynamics simulations.

This paper is an attempt to assess India's performance in generating the required quantity and quality of employment for its growing population since independence in 1947. But the exercise is set in a longer period that covers India's population growth since the turn of the twentieth century (1901) in relation to its ability to generate employment. The half-a-century preceding independence, despite a slow population growth, was a disaster in generating employment and any signs of structural change. Detailed analysis of the issue since independence shows that there was indeed a demographic burd
