INTRODUCTION: Expansive processes around the third ventricle have always been a major neurosurgical challenge. Despite all the technological and scientific progress recorded over the last few years, third ventricle tumors are still a very difficult pathology to approach due to their formidable complexity.Treating such a tumor demands a good knowledge of local anatomy, pathophysiology, pathology and a good capacity to integrate all the data gathered from the patient prior to and during surgery. Last but not least, the correct means to approach such a tumor involves using modern neuronavigation

BACKGROUND: Previous guidelines have clearly stated that dance is safe and beneficial during pregnancy and for childbirth. However, due to the small sample size of individual studies and different interventions, there were inconsistencies about the effect of dance on maternal childbirth.
METHODS: We included studies evaluating the effect of dance on women in labor. Risk of bias was assessed using the revised Risk of bias assessment tool for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Data analyses was performed using Review Manager Software version 5.4.
RESULTS: A total of 12 RCTs comprising 1,486

BACKGROUND: Cardiometabolic conditions are rising among women in low- and middle-income countries and appearing at younger ages. The role of female reproductive characteristics in cardiometabolic risk is not well understood.
METHODS: We analyzed seven reproductive characteristics and seven cardiometabolic indicators obtained from 644,191 non-pregnant women aged 15-49 years in the 2019-2021 India National Family and Health Survey (NFHS-5). We conducted a latent class analysis of cardiometabolic indicators (systolic and diastolic blood pressure, random blood glucose, body mass index, waist circ

BACKGROUND & AIMS: The impact of biologic treatment for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) during pregnancy and lactation on infant psychomotor development is barely studied. We investigated the effect of exposure to biologics in utero or during breastfeeding on the psychomotor development of offspring during their first year.
METHODS: The study included patients and infants from DUMBO, an ongoing prospective, observational registry of GETECCU enrolling pregnant women (aged ≥18 years) with IBD from 60 centers across Spain. Mothers were followed up at each trimester during pregnancy and after de

OBJECTIVES: The primary objective was to determine whether a behaviour change intervention delivered to hospital staff would (1) improve the proportion of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (Aboriginal) babies being registered and (2) reduce hospital admissions and emergency presentations for babies <6 months old. The secondary objective was an observational analysis to determine factors that might influence the proportion of registered Aboriginal births in Western Australia (WA).
DESIGN: Quasi-experimental design and cohort study.
SETTING: Five tertiary birthing hospitals in WA.

INTRODUCTION: Underreporting of food intake corresponds to distortions in self-reported food consumption and can lead to inadequacies in dietary prescriptions, which play an important role in preventing excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Recent studies in the field of chrononutrition indicate that meal times influence the quality, quantity, and distribution of calories throughout the day.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of energy intake underreporting with chrononutritional and clinical variables throughout pregnancy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Prospective cohort study carried out wit

BACKGROUND: The delivery of macrosomic newborns (newborns>4000gm) is increasing steadily worldwide and yet it is associated with many complications. The risk factors for fetal macrosomia include weight at first antenatal visit, previous delivery of a large newborn, newly diagnosed diabetes in pregnancy, increasing number of deliveries, a male fetus, and many others. There is paucity of data on fetal macrosomia in Uganda and the objective of this study therefore was to determine the risk factors for fetal macrosomia among women who delivered at a National Referral Hospital in Kampala, Uganda..

INTRODUCTION: Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) results may be used to estimate the risk of recurrent gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a subsequent pregnancy in the different study settings. This study assesses the association between the number of abnormal glucose values in the OGTT in the first pregnancy and GDM recurrence in a subsequent pregnancy in a Nordic cohort.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This register-based cohort study included 1677 women who had their first singleton delivery in 2009, underwent a 75 g 2-h OGTT during the pregnancy, and gave birth at least once more within 10 year

Objective Gravibinan is commonly used to prevent or manage miscarriage in high-risk pregnancies. However, data on its safety profile in real-world clinical settings remains limited. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the safety and tolerability of Gravibinan in pregnant women at risk of miscarriage (two or more consecutive pregnancy losses) before the 20th week of gestation. Methodology This retrospective observational study was conducted in multiple tertiary care settings to assess the safety profile of Gravibinan in pregnant women. The study duration was about five months from January 2025

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a common pregnancy-related metabolic disorder, often goes undiagnosed until the second trimester, limiting early intervention opportunities. Given the higher prevalence of GDM in India, there is a critical need to investigate metabolomic biomarkers among Asian Indians, who exhibit greater insulin resistance and are predisposed to developing type 2 diabetes at an earlier age. This study aimed to identify early pregnancy metabolomic signatures predictive of GDM.
METHODS: Among 2115 pregnant women from the STratification of Risk of Diabete

of recommendations Preventive measures and procedures We recommend monitoring of blood loss in women with risk factors for PPH during labor using calibrated blood collectors or their equivalents. (Good Clinical Practice) We recommend that women with significant risk factors for PPH (e.g., placenta acrreta spectrum or hematologic disorders requiring consultative hematologic care) deliver in a perinatal intensive care center or perinatal intermediate care center. (Good Clinical Practice) We recommend formulating a plan of care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team at a reasonable time p

BACKGROUND: Circulating cell-free RNA (cfRNA) is gaining recognition as an effective biomarker for the early detection of preeclampsia (PE). However, the current methods for selecting disease-specific biomarkers are often inefficient and typically one-dimensional.
PURPOSE: This study introduces a Pyramid Scene Parsing Network (PSPNet) model to predict PE, aiming to improve early risk assessment using cfRNA profiles.
METHODS: The theoretical maximum Preeclamptic Risk Index (PRI) of patients clinically diagnosed with PE is defined as "1", and the control group (NP) is defined as "0", referred

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the association between mean uterine artery pulsatility index (UtA-PI) ≥ 95th percentile at 20–24 weeks and early-onset preeclampsia (EOPE, < 34 weeks) in pregnancies identified as high risk in first-trimester preeclampsia (PE) screening. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 727 singleton pregnancies with high-risk first-trimester PE screening results (≥ 1/100) and mean UtA-PI measurements at 20–24 weeks. Patients were categorized into two groups: UtA-PI ≥ 95th percentile (n = 111) and < 95th percentile (n = 616). Gestational age-specific r

BACKGROUND: The epidemic of diabetes mellitus is spreading throughout the world. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a transitory form of diabetes first recognized during pregnancy, is a known harbinger of future type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, and cardiac disease. To prevent the future onset of T2DM in mothers and offspring, preventive postpartum care and follow-up are necessary. However, the area remains grossly underprioritized. This study aims to examine long-term metabolic changes, including T2DM, in a cohort of Moroccan women with a known history of GDM.
METHODS: A prosp

BACKGROUND: The electronic routine health information system (eRHIS) is crucial for policy and planning. However, its effectiveness depends on end-users' capabilities in utilising it. Using a mixed-methods approach, we evaluated end-users' data in the Central African Republic (CAR), Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda in one of the first standardised cross-country assessment of eRHIS users' capabilities focussed on newborn and stillbirth indicators.
METHODS: We collected data in 12 regions and 3 city administrations between November 2022 and July 2024 using the Every Newborn-Measurement Improvemen

INTRODUCTION: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is common in pregnancy and is increasing in prevalence. It is associated with an increased risk of maternal and perinatal complications if not diagnosed and managed early. Most guidelines suggest making a diagnosis of GDM using an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy at which stage there still is an increased risk of complications. Increased beta-cell secretory product concentrations have been observed prior to changes in glycaemia and can potentially be used as an early marker to diagnose and assess risk of d

INTRODUCTION: Small fetal size is the most important risk factor for stillbirth. To our knowledge, no previous study has considered combinations of mid-trimester measures of fetal size as predictors of stillbirth risk. The aim of this cohort study was to assess whether small fetal measurements by mid-pregnancy ultrasound, in conjunction with maternal factors, can predict the risk of stillbirth.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this historical cohort study, we identified 377 563 singleton pregnancies in the Swedish Pregnancy Register between 2014 and 2021, with delivery at ≥22+0 gestational weeks with

BACKGROUND: Coarctation of the aorta is one of the most common congenital heart malformations, accounting for approximately 7% of all live births with congenital heart disease. It is crucial to make a definitive prenatal diagnosis as it can inform clinical treatment decisions.
OBJECTIVE: The diagnostic criteria for coarctation of the aorta are still controversial, and there is currently no risk nomogram available to assess the probability of coarctation of the aorta using routine ultrasound parameters. We explored the prenatal diagnostic efficacy of ultrasound parameters and established a nom
