Abdominal trachelectomy in a case of cervical myoma as a fertility sparing surgery.

Cervical leiomyoma is considered a rare pathology with limited treatment options especially if preserving fertility is a concern. Traditional fertility-preserving surgery such as myomectomy has been the mainstay of management if it is possible (Ferrari F, Forte S, Valenti G, Ardighieri L, Barra F, Esposito V, et al. Current treatment options for cervical leiomyomas: a systematic review of literature. Medicina (Kaunas) 2021;57:1-15). Trachelectomy was described as fertility-preserving surgery in patients with early-stage cervical cancer. However, recent studies manage patients with trachelectom

A rare case of an incarcerated incisional hernia with gravid uterus.

Herniation of a gravid uterus through an abdominal wall incisional hernia with overlying skin necrosis is exceptionally rare. A 29-year-old multiparous K30 + 4/40 pregnant female presented with a 1-month history of worsening abdominal wall skin changes. Magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen and pelvis confirmed herniation of the gravid uterus into the hernia sac. A lower uterine segment caesarean section and hernia repair were performed by the general surgical and obstetrics team in view of the potential maternofoetal complications. This case highlights the importance of early recognition

Prolidase as a marker of fibrogenesis in idiopathic primary ovarian insufficiency.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the serumlevel of prolidase, which isa marker of fibrogenic activity, in women with idiopathic primary ovarian insufficiency (POI). STUDY DESIGN: This is a prospective case-control study. Serum prolidase level was compared between the study group including 68 women with POI and control group including 65 normally menstruating women. Serum proline and hydroxyproline levels were also compared. Correlation analyses were performed between the prolidase level and POI related parameters including estradiol (E), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), anti-mullerian hormone (AMH)

New onset headache during delivery and postpartum: Clinical characteristics of a case series.

INTRODUCTION: There are abundant studies on headache and migraine in women but few or none about their occurrence during labor, delivery, and postpartum (2 hours after delivery) owing to the low incidence. A headache attack can be debilitating when a woman is trying to manage labor pain. Research at our Women's Headache Center within the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics has begun to shed light on this potential association. METHODS: For the present study 474 women with singleton pregnancy were enrolled. A headache questionnaire was administered at two time points. Headache history was

Maternal Exposure to Mycoplasma Pneumonia and Amniotic Constriction Band: A Case Report of Probable Novel Etiology.

Amniotic constriction band (ACB) is an uncommon clinical concept with different presentations specific to each patient with clinical symptoms may include ring constrictions, digital defects, natural limb amputations, and visceral defects. The etiology of this defect is not fully understood. We present a full-term newborn boy who was born by vaginal delivery to a healthy mother. At birth, amniotic bands encircled and constricted his upper and lower limbs. At two and six months of gestation, the mother gave a unique obstetric history of recurrent exposure to her infected daughter, which was diag

Proximity to major roads and the incidence of osteoporotic fractures in elderly women: The BONE study in Beijing.

BACKGROUND: There is growing evidence to suggest that living near major roads (and suffering from the air pollution of urban streets) can have an adverse effect on bone health. However, little is known about its relationship to fractures caused by osteoporosis. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to investigate the relationship between residents living near major roads and the incidence of osteoporotic fractures. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of 529 subjects was established based on community populations in older women aged 65-91. All participants lived in Beijing between September 27, 2007

Assessing and Promoting Cardiovascular Health for Adolescent Women: User-Centered Design Approach.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in the United States. A considerable number of young women already have risk factors for CVD. Awareness of CVD and its risk factors is critical to preventing CVD, yet younger women are less aware of CVD prevalence, its risk factors, and preventative behaviors compared to older women. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to assess CVD awareness among adolescent and young adult women and develop a lifestyle-based cardiovascular risk assessment tool for the promotion of CVD awareness among this population. MET

Prediction of uterine dehiscence via machine learning by using lower uterine segment thickness and clinical features.

BACKGROUND: With the global increase of cesarean delivery rates, the long-term effects of cesarean delivery have started to become clearer. One of the most prominent complications of cesarean delivery in recurrent pregnancies is uterine rupture. Assessing the risk of uterine rupture by accurately predicting dehiscence is very important to prevent untimely operations and/or maternal and fetal complications. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess whether machine learning can be used to predict uterine dehiscence by using patients' ultrasonographic findings, clinical findings, and demographic dat

Impact of Genetic Variants on Postoperative Pain and Fentanyl Dose Requirement in Patients Undergoing Major Breast Surgery: A Candidate Gene Association Study.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative analgesia is crucial for the early and effective recovery of patients undergoing surgery. Although postoperative multimodal analgesia is widely practiced, opioids such as fentanyl are still one of the best analgesics. The analgesic response of fentanyl varies widely among individuals, probably due to genetic and nongenetic factors. Among genetic factors, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may influence its analgesic response by altering the structure or function of genes involved in nociceptive, fentanyl pharmacodynamic, and pharmacokinetic pathways. Thus, it is n

Changes in genital Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence among urban females a decade after the Malaysian HPV vaccination program.

To increase the coverage of HPV vaccination, Malaysia implemented a national school-based vaccination program for all 13-year-old girls in 2010. Two years later, a clinic-based catch-up program was started for 16 to 21-year-old girls. We assessed the prevalence of a range of HPV genotypes, among a sample of urban women within the age groups of 18-24 and 35-45 years in 2019-2020, a decade into the national vaccination program. The HPV prevalence was then compared to that reported in an unvaccinated population in 2013-2015. We sampled a total of 1134 participants, comprising of 277 women aged 18

Primary Clear Cell Adenocarcinoma of the Uterine Cervix in a 14-Year-Old Virgin Girl: Case Report.

Cervical cancer is rare in adolescent and pediatric populations, with adenocarcinoma being the most commonly reported. Clear cell adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix accounts for only 4% of all adenocarcinoma cases, and about two-thirds are associated with intrauterine diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure. We report the case of a 14-year-old virgin girl who presented with a 1-month-long history of abnormal vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. Transabdominal pelvic ultrasound examination revealed the presence of an irregular, homogeneous cervical mass that was 7 cm in size. Therefore, a mag

Maternal and Dietary Factors Are Associated with Metabolic Syndrome in Women with a Previous History of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

While it is known that women with a previous history of gestational diabetes mellitus (post-GDM) have a higher risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), evidence of lifestyle practices from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is still scarce. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with MetS in women post-GDM. This cross-sectional study involved 157 women post-GDM (mean age 34.8 ± 5.6 years) sampled from Selangor, Malaysia. We collected data on sociodemographic characteristics and obstetric history. Food intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire, and dietary patterns
