Risk of Mood and Anxiety Disorders in the Postpartum Period Following Assisted Reproduction: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: To assess the risk of developing postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD) in patients who conceive via assisted reproductive technology (ART) versus naturally and to evaluate differences stratified by race and ethnicity. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study was conducted using the TriNetX research network (> 100 million patients from 68 United States health care organizations). The ART group was defined using ICD-10 code O09.81 ("supervision of pregnancy resulting from assisted reproductive technology") and was compared against non-ART pregnant, age, race, ethnici

Joint effects of IVF and cancer history on birth outcomes.

PURPOSE: To examine how live birth rates, preterm birth, and major birth defects are affected by parental cancer history and conception method. METHODS: IVF births were identified by linking the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology Clinic Outcomes Reporting System to birth certificates in three States. For each IVF-conceived birth, the subsequent 10 naturally conceived births (from birth certificates) created the comparison group. Parental cancer history was identified by linkage to state cancer registries. Preterm birth (PTB) was defined from birth certificates; birth defects (BD) fr

[Application of polygenic risk score-based comprehensive breast cancer risk assessment in preimplantation embryo selection for a BRCA1 mutation carrier].

A patient, whose family carried a BRCA1: c.5154G>A pathogenic variant, had experienced infertility for three years and sought assisted reproductive technology. We constructed a breast cancer polygenic risk score (PRS)-313 model by integrating genetic data from breast cancer patients and controls in the UK Biobank with Asian population-specific single nucleotide polymorphism weights. Following controlled ovarian stimulation, embryo culture, and biopsy, the embryos were tested for the BRCA1 pathogenic variant. By integrating the breast cancer PRS‑313 score and family history of breast cancer, a

Beyond traditional risk factors: Social, reproductive, and environmental determinants of cardiovascular health in women.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality among women, whose risk is shaped by a complex interaction between biological characteristics and the social, reproductive, and environmental contexts in which they live. Beyond traditional cardiovascular risk factors, socioeconomic disadvantage, limited access to healthcare, caregiving responsibilities, psychosocial stress, discrimination, and neighbourhood deprivation can influence health behaviours, cardiometabolic profiles, and access to preventive care. These determinants also interact with reproductive health. Employment insta

Management of Cushing's Disease in Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Cushing's syndrome (CS) is a rare condition encountered in pregnancy, and Cushing's disease (pituitary-dependent CS) represents an even smaller subset. The occurrence of pregnancy in women with CS is uncommon because hypercortisolism suppresses the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, frequently leading to anovulation and infertility. When conception does occur, Cushing's disease can significantly complicate the course of pregnancy, posing serious risks to both the mother and fetus. Reported maternal complications include hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus, pre-eclampsia, heart failur

A smartphone application as a promising tool for large-scale collection of participant data on fertility treatment.

In Japan, there is a registry for fertility treatment (the JSOG registry), which is a system that only registers select clinical data related to assisted reproductive technology (ART). This system does not include patient-derived data, so innovative tools that can complement the shortcomings of the existing registry may be useful. In this study we explored the potential of using a smartphone application platform to collect clinical data from patients directly. We recruited participants using the smartphone application “Luna Luna” and requested information that is typically gathered during a me

Using Life's Essential 8 and heavy metal exposure to determine infertility risk in American women: a machine learning prediction model based on the SHAP method.

BACKGROUND: Fertility status is a marker of future health, and female infertility has been shown to be an important medical and social problem. Life's Essential 8 ("LE8") is a comprehensive cardiovascular health assessment proposed by the American Heart Association. The assessment indicators include 4 health behaviors (diet, physical activity, nicotine exposure, and sleep health) and 4 health factors (body mass index, blood lipids, blood glucose, and blood pressure). LE8 and heavy metal exposure have both been shown to be associated with infertility. However, the association between LE8 and he

Stratifying IVF population endometria using a prognosis gradient independent of endometrial timing†.

STUDY QUESTION: Can the disrupted window of implantation (WOI) be stratified according to transcriptomic patterns associated with reproductive success in IVF patients undergoing HRT? SUMMARY ANSWER: There are four transcriptomic patterns independent of endometrial timing associated with a gradient of reproductive prognosis underlying different molecular pathomechanisms. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: A molecular heterogeneous profile independent of endometrial timing has been discovered as a cause of implantation failure that disrupt the endometrial transcriptome in the mid-secretory phase. However,

A Rare Presentation of a T-shaped Uterus in the Post-diethylstilbestrol Era: A Case Report and Literature Review.

The T-shaped uterus is a rare congenital uterine anomaly characterized by a narrowed endometrial cavity with lateral constriction, deviating from the typical triangular shape. Historically, this anomaly has been strongly associated with in-utero exposure to diethylstilbestrol (DES) in the mid-20th century; however, since the discontinuation of DES, no primary cause has been identified. We present the case of a 29-year-old female with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss found to have a T-shaped uterus on sonohysterography. The patient was subsequently referred for surgical evaluation. In pati

Establishing a predictive model for ectopic pregnancy risk following assisted reproductive technology.

BACKGROUND: The risk of ectopic pregnancy (EP) is known to increase with assisted reproductive technology (ART), but the specific risk factors are unclear. METHODS: We screened 6872 cycles for clinical data that met our study's inclusion criteria and conducted univariate and multivariate analyses to identify factors associated with EP and develop a nomogram prediction model for its incidence. RESULTS: The multivariate analysis demonstrated that women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have an over two-fold increased risk of EP (aOR = 2.07, 95% CI: 1.27-3.36, P = 0.004). Frozen embryo tran

Sick Leave and Its Associated Factors Among Pregnant Working Women in Egypt.

BACKGROUND: As more women enter the workforce, particularly during their childbearing years, high sick leave rates during pregnancy are observed. The current study aimed to measure the prevalence and predictors of sick leave among pregnant workers and to compare it with pre-pregnancy levels. METHODS: A self-controlled, cross-sectional survey was conducted on 384 pregnant working women using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Data included sociodemographic, medical, obstetric, and occupational histories, and details of sick leave during pregnancy and the preceding 9 months. Logistic re

Impact of corpus luteum number on maternal pregnancy and birth outcomes: the Rotterdam Periconception Cohort.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate associations between assisted reproductive technology (ART)-induced alterations in corpus luteum (CL) number during implantation, and maternal pregnancy and birth outcomes. Pregnancies conceived through ART are associated with increased risks of adverse obstetric and perinatal outcomes, with discrepancies in outcomes between different ART treatment protocols. We hypothesize that this is because the periconceptional hormonal environment regulated by the CL. Assisted reproductive technology protocols affect CL quantity at conception resulting in CL absence or a supraphy
