BACKGROUND: The determination of foetal Rhesus D (RHD) status allows appropriate use of IgRh prophylaxis by restricting its use to cases of RHD feto-maternal incompatibilities. There is a degree of uncertainty about the cost-effectiveness of foetal RHD determination, yet screening programs are being introduced into clinical practice in many countries. This paper evaluates the impact of non-invasive foetal Rhesus D (RHD) status determination on the costs of managing RHD-negative pregnant women and on the appropriate use of anti-D prophylaxis in a large sample of RHD-negative pregnant women usin

OBJECTIVE: To construct reference charts for the fetal middle cerebral artery (MCA) peak systolic velocity (PSV,) and the corresponding cord blood hemoglobin values at 24-40 weeks of pregnancy for the identification of fetal anemia.
METHODS: In a cross-sectional study, 300 women with a pregnancy duration of 24-40 weeks planned for delivery within 72 hours underwent a Doppler study of the MCA and cord blood hemoglobin estimation at delivery. Regression analysis was used to construct reference charts. The validity of the charts was assessed in 40 fetuses from Rhesus-isoimmunized pregnancies.

BACKGROUND: Haemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn secondary to clinically significant non-Rhesus-D antibodies has risen in importance since the advent of immunoprophylactic anti-D administration to Rhesus-D negative women. Of interest is the incidence of these antibodies in Rhesus-D positive women, who receive less frequent antenatal alloantibody screening. This is of particular concern if the antibodies arise late in pregnancy and may go undetected.
AIMS: To assess the proportion of Rhesus-D positive pregnant women with late developing clinically significant antibodies for haemolytic disea

OBJECTIVE: This study was aimed to evaluate whether maternal dried blood spots could be a potential source for the noninvasive fetal RHD genotyping, serving as a combined one-step test for both the First Trimester Screen and the fetal RHD genotyping.
METHOD: Both the maternal dried blood spots and the peripheral blood samples from 19 RhD-negative pregnant women were obtained during the First Trimester Screen. DNA was extracted and sequential real-time PCRs were performed to determine the fetal RHD genotypes. Fetal RhD serological types were obtained after delivery. This study was approved by

UNLABELLED: The optimal management of the D-negative pregnant woman is now based on the non-invasive antenatal prediction of fetal D-blood group by cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in maternal plasma, with targeted prophylaxis for women carrying RHD-positive fetuses. This provides the optimal care for D-negative pregnant women and has been adopted as the standard approach in a growing number of countries around the world. This paper is the result of a consensus meeting of the Canadian National Rh Working Group, an interdisciplinary group formed to review the current status of fetal RHD genotyping based o

OBJECTIVE: To compare the rates of alloimmunization with the use of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening to target antenatal rhesus immune globulin (RhIG) prenatally, versus routine administration of RhIG in rhesus D (RhD)-negative pregnant women in a theoretic cohort using a decision-analytic model.
METHODS: A decision-analytic model compared cfDNA testing to routine antenatal RhIG administration. The primary outcome was maternal sensitization to RhD antigen. Sensitivity and specificity of cfDNA testing were assumed to be 99.8% and 95.3%, respectively. Univariate and bivariate sensitivity analyse

Fetal ovarian cysts are the most frequent type of abdominal tumors in female fetuses with prenatal detection rate of more than 30%. The etiology of fetal ovarian cysts is unclear, but hormonal stimulation as well as presence of maternal diabetes, hypothyroidism, Rh iso-immune hemolytic disease and toxemia has been generally considered responsible for the disease. Complications of fetal ovarian cysts include compression of other viscera, cyst rupture, hemorrhage and, most frequently, ovarian torsion with consequent loss of the ovary. Management is controversial with several options described in
