INTRODUCTION: Pregnant women are considered a vulnerable group for COVID-19 with an increased risk for complications. The objective of this study is to describe in-hospital mortality, pregnancy outcomes, and direct hospital costs associated with COVID-19 in women at the time of childbirth.
METHODS: This retrospective nationwide population-based registry study collects data on complications, outcomes, and direct hospital costs from women hospitalized for childbirth, recorded in the Minimum Basic Data Set obtained from the National Surveillance System for Hospital Data in Spain between 2020-202

BACKGROUND: Fewer studies on association of single stillbirth exposure with long-term health outcomes in women. In this study of cohort data from UK Biobank, we aim to explore the association of stillbirth with the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD), all-cause mortality, CVD mortality, ischemic heart disease (IHD), myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), and stroke.
METHODS: We initially included 502,366 participants aged 40-69 years. Multivariate Cox regressions were used to evaluate associations of stillbirths with diabetes, CVD, all-cause mortality, and CVD mortality ut

OBJECTIVES: Existing evidence suggests that miscarriage and stillbirth are associated with an increased risk of stroke in women. However, the impact of these events on stroke mortality remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the potential association between miscarriage and stillbirth and stroke mortality in women.
METHODS: We employed a competing risk model using data from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial to assess the relationship between miscarriage/stillbirth and stroke death. Death from other causes was considered as a competing risk, and we condu

OBJECTIVES: We established a program of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) telemedicine that is safe and acceptable. Since December 2019, a multi-disciplinary team has been planning this quality improvement project.
METHODS: We performed a pilot study to investigate the feasibility of using telemedicine and tele-ultrasound to enable prompt MFM consultations for patients in remote locations. We began with the training of sonographers followed by implementation in a small pilot. Interim analysis of the acceptability and feasibility of the program was done through patient surveys, images audit, and r

OBJECTIVE: To extend previous work and estimate health and social care costs, litigation costs, funeral-related costs, and productivity losses associated with stillbirth in the UK.
DESIGN: A population-based cost-of-illness study using a synthesis of secondary data.
SETTING: The National Health Service (NHS) and wider society in the UK.
POPULATION: Stillbirths occurring within a 12-month period and subsequent events occurring over the following 2 years.
METHODS: Costs were estimated using published data on events, resource use, and unit costs.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Mean health and social

OBJECTIVE: To review the management and outcome of pregnancies of women presenting to obstetrical triage with decreased fetal movements (DFM).
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective review of women presenting with DFMs to two large Canadian obstetrical centres with a combined 9490 deliveries per year. The charts were reviewed for compliance with the Canadian guidelines for demographics (age, parity, GA, comorbidities, etc.), pregnancy management (admission vs. discharge, need to deliver), and pregnancy outcomes (mortality, morbidity, GA at delivery, Apgar scores, etc.). Patients who did not comply wit

The single stillbirth long-term intrauterine retention in dichorionic twin pregnancy is rarely reported. Also, the birth of a fetus is followed in most cases by immediate expulsion of the second twin. We hereby present an unusual case of asynchronous delivery of dichorionic twins, associating discordance for major and minor anomaly. The intrauterine death of the twin A, presenting a large sacrococcygeal tumor, occurred in the second trimester. The deceased twin A was born at 29 weeks' gestational age (GA). The twin B was extracted by Caesarean section at 31 weeks and had a good outcome. We per

To determine the role of hPL radioimmunoassays in screening for fetal assessment in normal and hypertensive pregnancies the results of 148 pregnancies were examined by measuring the specificity and sensitivity of the test for prospectively defined fetal conditions. Values of hPL were considered abnormal if they were below the tenth percentile for the range of values derived from pregnancies with a normal fetal outcome ( less than 3.8 microgram/ml). The specificity of the test was 95% but it would have correctly predicted a normal fetal outcome in only 85% of pregnancies. The test varied in its
