Outcome following laser surgery of twin-twin transfusion syndrome complicated by selective fetal growth restriction: systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: The published literature reports mostly on the outcome of twin pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) without considering whether the pregnancy is also complicated by another pathology, such as selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR). The aim of this systematic review was to report on the outcome of monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies undergoing laser surgery for TTTS that were complicated by sFGR and those not complicated by sFGR. METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane databases were searched. The inclusion criteria were studies reporting on

Twin Gestation With Spontaneous Reduction To Singleton.

Twin gestations are at increased risk of single intrauterine fetal death. A first-trimester loss is a common complication in twin gestations. The rate of co-twin morbidity and mortality is higher when a single demise occurs in the second and third trimesters. Monochorionicity strongly influences the prognosis for the surviving co-twin. Fetal ultrasound combined with MRI may be able to help predict neurological injury to the surviving co-twin. The rate of co-twin demise decreases with advancing gestation. After single intrauterine fetal demise, monochorionic gestations should be delivered by 34

A Case of Thoraco-Omphalopagus Conjoined Twins: Clinical Imaging and Anatomical Classification.

Conjoined twins are a rare phenomenon estimated to occur in a range between 1 in 49,000 births and 1 in 189,000 births. As a product of monochorionic-monoamniotic pregnancies, they are currently believed to result from late, incomplete fission of the bilaminar embryonic disk at 13-15 days gestation. Conjoined twins are typically classified by the point at which their bodies are joined, with 15 recognized types, five of which account for more than 70% of cases. Fusion of the thorax and upper abdomen (thoraco-omphalopagus) accounts for 28% of all cases. Mortality and morbidity rates remain high

Sirenomelia or "Mermaid Syndrome" in a Twin Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Sirenomelia, also known as "mermaid syndrome" or "mermaid baby syndrome," is a very rare congenital disorder. The major anomaly in this syndrome is the fusion of the lower legs, giving it a mermaid-like appearance. This syndrome consists of a range of abnormalities affecting various systems, such as the digestive, genitourinary, and musculoskeletal systems. On the basis of the severity of the syndrome, the fetus may have a single fused bone or entirely absent bones in place of a normal pair of distinct bones. In major cases, mermaid syndrome leads to stillbirths. Its occurrence in monozygotic

Third-trimester fetoscopic ablation therapy for types II and III vasa previa.

BACKGROUND: Vasa previa is an obstetrical condition in which fetal vessels located near the cervix traverse the fetal membranes unprotected by underlying placenta. Type I vasa previa arises directly from a velamentous cord root, whereas types II and III arise from an accessory lobe or a distal lobe of the same placenta, respectively. Fetoscopic laser ablation for types II and III vasa previa is a novel therapeutic option with benefits that include surgical resolution of the vasa previa, avoidance of prolonged hospitalization, and opportunity for a term vaginal delivery. The potential risks of

Reduction in spontaneous and iatrogenic preterm births in twin pregnancies during COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne, Australia: a multicenter cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Melbourne, Australia, recorded one of the longest and most stringent pandemic lockdowns in 2020, which was associated with an increase in preterm stillbirths among singleton pregnancies. Twin pregnancies may be particularly susceptible to the impacts of pandemic disruptions to maternity care due to their higher background risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. METHODS: Multicenter retrospective cohort study of all twin pregnancies birthing in public maternity hospitals in Melbourne. Multivariable log-binomial regression models were used to compare perinatal outcomes between a pre-pan

Triple trouble: uncovering the risks and benefits of early fetal reduction in trichorionic triplets in a large national Danish cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Triplet pregnancies are high risk for both the mother and the infants. The risks for infants include premature birth, low birthweight, and neonatal complications. Therefore, the management of triplet pregnancies involves close monitoring and may include interventions, such as fetal reduction, to prolong the pregnancy and improve outcomes. However, the evidence of benefits and risks associated with fetal reduction is inconsistent. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of trichorionic triplet pregnancies with and without fetal reduction and with nonreduced dichorionic

Relationships between birth weight discordance and maternal and perinatal risks among twin pregnancies conceived following frozen embryo transfer.

STUDY QUESTION: Is intertwin birth weight discordance associated with adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes following frozen embryo transfer (FET)? SUMMARY ANSWER: For twins conceived following FET, intertwin birth weight discordance is related to elevated risks of neonatal mortality irrespective of chorionicity, and the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) is elevated for the mothers of dichorionic twins affected by such birth weight discordance. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: While the relationships between intertwin birth weight discordance and adverse maternal or fetal outcomes ha

[Corrigendum] ND‑09 inhibits chronic myeloid leukemia K562 cell growth by regulating BCR‑ABL signaling.

ABSTRACT: One in every two humans is having Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in stomach causing gastric ulcer. Emergence of several drugs in eliminating H. pylori has paved way for emergence of multidrug resistance in them. This resistance is thriving and thereby necessitating the need of a potent drug. Identifying a potential target for medication is crucial. Bacterial 5'-methylthioadenosine/S-enosyl homocysteine nucleosidase (MTAN) is a multifunctional enzyme that controls seven essential metabolic pathways. It functions as a catalyst in the hydrolysis of the N-ribosidic bond of adenosine-bas

The Efficacy of Fetoscopic Laser Surgery in Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome: A Preliminary Vietnamese Study.

BACKGROUND: Twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a severe prenatal complication of monochorionic diamniotic twins (MCDA). If left untreated, TTTS is associated with a high risk of neonatal death and neurological complications. Various treatment methods for TTTS have been proposed, but fetoscopic laser surgery (FLS) is currently the primary treatment for TTTS in global fetal medicine centers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the outcome of TTTS following FLS treatment at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (HOGH), a new fetal medicine center in Vietnam. METHODS: A prospecti

COVID-19 and Pregnancy: A narrative review of maternal and perinatal outcomes.

As of August 11, 2021, approximately 206 million people worldwide had been infected with SARS-CoV-2. However, limited data are available regarding the effects of COVID-19 infection on pregnancy and maternal and perinatal outcomes. This review aimed to resolve this gap in literature. The MEDLINE®, SCOPUS and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature databases were searched to identify relevant English-language articles published between January 2020 and February 2021. A total of 17 articles describing the outcomes of 762 pregnancies were identified. There were 613 babies born, in
