[Neonatal and surgical management of a prenatally diagnosed enteric sublingual cyst causing airway obstruction].

The prenatal detection and neonatal definitive management of congenital expansive lesions affecting the oral cavity – due to potential airway compromise and feeding difficulties – represent a complex, multidisciplinary task requiring high-level professional and technical expertise. In this case report, we present the urgent management and subsequent definitive surgical excision of a cystic mass causing severe oral obstruction in a neonate, identified prenatally by ultrasound examination. The fetus was delivered at 38 weeks of gestation via elective cesarean section with a birth weight of 3400

From Therapeutic Refusal to Gynecological Emergency: A Case Report on a Long-Standing Uterine Prolapse.

Uterine prolapse is a type of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) that corresponds to the herniation with inferior displacement of the middle/apical compartment, in which the uterus descends from its normal position into or beyond the vaginal canal due to the weakening of the pelvic floor support structures. Its presentation can range from mild and asymptomatic forms to voluminous prolapse with functional impact and associated complications. This case illustrates a situation sparsely documented in the literature: the prolonged evolution of a uterine prolapse in a woman with multiple comorbidities, mon

Surgical non-aggressive approach for the delivery of 4 cm salivary stone from the submandibular gland duct: Avoiding salivary gland removal - A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Salivary calculi represent the most common salivary gland disease. It can vary significantly in size, ranging from less than 1 mm to several centimeters. As the size of the stone increases, the surgical approach becomes more complex and the function of the gland may be compromised, potentially necessitating total gland removal. Successful outcomes depend on appropriate indications, precise surgical techniques, and comprehensive postoperative care. CASE PRESENTATION: A 50-year-old male presented with a chief complaint of pain and swelling in the submandibular regio

Enacting an "Empowerment Approach" After Sexual Assault: The Views and Beliefs of Forensic Nurse Examiners and Crisis Support Workers.

BACKGROUND: Sexual violence is a profoundly disempowering experience. It is essential that survivors are offered access to comprehensive medical care, psychological support, and follow-up in a way that offers them a high level of choice and control. AIMS: There has been little research into how practitioners working in the context of immediate postassault understand empowerment and reflect this in their care delivery. This study sought to explore how crisis support workers and forensic nurse examiners conceive how they enact an "empowerment approach" in a sexual assault referral center (SARC)

Objective structured clinical examination to teach competency in planetary health care and management - a prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Health professionals are increasingly called upon and willing to engage in planetary health care and management. However, so far, this topic is rarely covered in medical curricula. As the need for professional communication is particularly high in this subject area, this study aimed to evaluate whether the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) could be used as an accompanying teaching tool. METHODS: During the winter semester 2022/2023, 20 third- and fifth-year medical students voluntarily participated in a self-directed online course, three workshops, and a formal eigh

Blood pressure and cerebral oxygenation with physiologically-based cord clamping: sub-study of the BabyDUCC trial.

BACKGROUND: Cord-clamping strategies may modify blood pressure (BP) and cerebral tissue oxygen saturation (rStO2) immediately after birth. METHODS: We conducted a sub-study nested within the Baby-Directed Umbilical Cord-Clamping trial. Infants ≥32+0 weeks' gestation assessed as requiring resuscitation were randomly allocated to either physiologically-based cord clamping (PBCC), where resuscitation commenced prior to umbilical cord clamping, or standard care where cord clamping occurred early (ECC). In this single-site sub-study, we obtained additional measurements of pre-ductal BP and rStO2.

Newborn DNA methylation age differentiates long-term weight trajectories: the Boston Birth Cohort.

BACKGROUND: Gestational age (GEAA) estimated by newborn DNA methylation (GAmAge) is associated with maternal prenatal exposures and immediate birth outcomes. However, the association of GAmAge with long-term overweight or obesity (OWO) trajectories is yet to be determined. METHODS: GAmAge was calculated for 831 children from a US predominantly urban, low-income, multi-ethnic birth cohort based on cord blood DNA methylation profile using Illumina EPIC array. Repeated anthropometric measurements aligned with pediatric primary care schedule allowed us to calculate body-mass-index percentiles (BM

Current Self-reported Pain Before and After Cure of Hepatitis C Among Persons Who Actively Inject Drugs.

BACKGROUND: Questions remain on the relationship between pain and hepatitis C virus cure among persons who inject drugs (PWID). This study aimed to explore whether achieving hepatitis C virus cure reduced pain severity. METHODS: Prespecified secondary analysis utilized data from a pragmatic clinical trial of care delivery models that enrolled PWIDs between 2016 and 2018 and treated with sofosbuvir/velpatasvir. Current pain severity (0-100) was assessed before and after treatment and 5-point Likert pain scales were used to determine moderate or greater current pain at baseline; the duration an

Effect of communicating genetic risk of type 2 diabetes and wearable technologies on wearable device-measured behavioural outcomes in East Asians: protocol of a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: The communication of information about the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) alone has not been associated with changes in habitual behaviours among individuals of European ancestry. In contrast, the use of wearable devices that monitor physical activity (PA) has been associated with behavioural changes in some studies. It is uncertain whether risk communication might enhance the effects of wearable devices. We aim to assess the effects of communicating genetic risk for T2D alone or in combination with wearable device functions on wearable device-measured PA among overweight or obese
