The treatment of bilateral retinal tumors requires very delicate decisions. The author used to follow the same procedures as his colleagues, that is enucleation of the worse eye and conservative treatment of the other eye. But the case he presents induced him to modigy his view. Enucleation of the right eye was planned. Prior to enucleation it was irradiated prophylactically together with the left eye. In a 17-year-old patient gonadal dysgenesis with a XY-karyotype was diagnosed by laparoscopy and chromosomal analysis. Two years later, the patient came again to the hospital because of a large tumour which proved to be a dysgerminoma. The intraaortic balloon was attempted for therapy in 94 patients and successfully placed in 86. We present the first reported case to our knowledge of diastatic rupture of the normal cecum following cardiac surgery. All other reported cases of diastatic rupture of the cecum are reviewed. Nasotracheal intubation, hypoxemia, and enemas are thought to contribute to this complication. Prophylactic cecostomy for cecal diameters greater than 9 cm is recommended. A family manifesting the Cancer Family Syndrome has been evaluated extensively from the medical and genetic standpoint. Findings of excess occurrence of carcinoma of the colon and endometrium, multiple primary cancer, early age of onset, and autosomal dominant mode of genetic transmission mandate a program of increased surveillance and cancer education. Prophylactic surgical implications are provided for certain of these enormously high cancer risk patients.

Two hundred and one cases of premenopausal women with breast cancer who underwent prophylactic castration with subsequent recurrence were review to ascertain the degree of responsiveness of these patients to subsequent endocrine manipulation. Of 47 children with an initial diagnosis of lymphosarcoma, reticulosarcoma or Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), 13 had to be excluded at the histologic reevaluation: in 10 an undifferentiated sarcoma, in 2 Hodgkin lymphoma was found; in one patient no definite classification of the tumor was possible. The clinical and neuropathlogical aspects of four cases of subacute necrotizing encephalomyelopathy (SNEM) in adults, are described. All 100 eyes treated with transconjunctival cryotherapy to seal peripheral retinal breaks had a final vision as good or better than when they were first seen.
