A questionnaire designed to investigate attitudes to prophylactic oophorectomy was sent to 2817 fellows and members of the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. A total of 1142 replies was received from those who performed regular sessions of gynaecological surgery. The risk of development of CNS leukemia was investigated in 153 adults with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) who received systemic combination chemotherapy without CNS prophylaxis. We reviewed 117 consecutive patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the lip. The retrospective review includes age, race, location, risk factors, TNM classification, histologic differentiation, treatment methods, recurrent disease, site of recurrence, and follow-up status. This is a study of 234 children and young adult patients entered in the Intergroup Hodgkin's Disease in Childhood (stage I-II) Study from November 1975 to June 1981 and followed for a mean of 3.8 years after laparotomy. In a series of 772 renal transplant patients, 84 had analgesic nephropathy (AN). Four of them had renal pelvic carcinoma. A family manifesting the Cancer Family Syndrome has been evaluated extensively from the medical and genetic standpoint. Findings of excess occurrence of carcinoma of the colon and endometrium, multiple primary cancer, early age of onset, and autosomal dominant mode of genetic transmission mandate a program of increased surveillance and cancer education. Prophylactic surgical implications are provided for certain of these enormously high cancer risk patients.
