Long-term telemetric intracranial pressure monitoring for diagnosis and therapy optimisation of idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a disease which is difficult to diagnose and moreover difficult to treat. We developed a strategy for long-term telemonitoring of intracranial pressure (ICP), by incorporation of the NEUROVENT®-P-tel System, with the goal of improved diagnosis and consequent therapy of this disease. We highlight the results obtained through this approach. METHODS: Twenty patients with suspected IIH who were treated in our hospital from August 2014 to October 2020 (16 females, 4 males, median age 36,6 years), were assigned to one of two ICP monitoring s

Should Pertrochanteric and Subtrochanteric Fractures Be Treated with a Short or Long Intramedullary Nail?: A Multicenter Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the present multicenter cohort study was to compare the rates of reoperation in elderly patients with pertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures that had been treated with a short or long intramedullary nail. METHODS: Eleven orthopaedic departments across Denmark delivered data that had been obtained from the Danish Multidisciplinary Hip Fracture Registry (DMHFR) and a review of health-care records. With use of surgical procedure codes for pertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures that had been treated with an intramedullary nail, the DMRHF was searched to id

Teleprogramming Service Provides Safe and Remote Stimulation Options for Patients with DRG-S and SCS Implants.

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain patients implanted with a neurostimulation device typically require follow-up and device programming visits to address changes in symptoms or treatment. Follow-up visits require access to specialty care and necessitate patients to take time off work, commute long distances, arrange for travel, and/or work with a caregiver's schedule. Telemedicine was adopted for some patient management as a result of the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic; however, remote optimization for neuromodulation still required an in-person visit to adjust device parameters. An FDA-approved digital platform e

Limited value of current shoulder arthroplasty registries in evidence-based shoulder surgery: a review of 7 national registries.

National shoulder arthroplasty registries are currently used to assess incidence, indication, type of prosthesis and revision, but they seem to lack sufficient information to lead to evidence based decision-making in shoulder surgery. There appears to be a large difference in registered parameters and outcome measurement per country. First we investigated whether existing registries have sufficient common datasets to enable pooling of data. Second, we determined whether known risk factors for prosthetic failure are being recorded. Through a non-systematic literature review studies on registrie

Potential next-generation medications for self-administered platforms.

The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has reshaped clinical chronic disease management. Patients reduced the number of physical clinic visits for regular follow-up care because of the pandemic. However, in developing countries, the scattered healthcare system hindered accessibility to clinical consultation, and poorly controlled chronic diseases resulted in numerous complications. Furthermore, the longer patients suffered from the chronic disease being treated, the more physical and psychological stress they experienced. "Diabetes Burnout," as an example, is a term to describe the phenom

Cost-effectiveness of left ventricular assist devices as destination therapy in the United Kingdom.

AIMS: Continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) as destination therapy (DT) are a recommended treatment by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence England for end-stage heart failure patients ineligible for cardiac transplantation. Despite the fact that DT is frequently used as an LVAD indication across other major European countries and the United States, with consistent improvements in quality-of-life and longevity, National Health Service (NHS) England does not currently fund DT, mainly due to concerns over cost-effectiveness. On the basis of the recently published E
