Evaluation of accuracy of photogrammetry with 3D scanning and conventional impression method for craniomaxillofacial defects using a software analysis.

BACKGROUND: Facial mutilation and deformities can be caused by cancer, tumours, injuries, infections, and inherited or acquired deformities and has the potential to degrade one's quality of life by interfering with fundamental tasks like communication, breathing, feeding, and aesthetics. Depending on the type of defect, producing maxillofacial prostheses for the rehabilitation of patients with various defects can be challenging and complex. The prosthesis is used to replace missing or damaged parts of the cranium and face, like the nose, auricle, orbit, and surrounding tissues, as well as miss

Standardization of three-dimensional pose of cylindrical implants from intraoral radiographs: a preliminary study.

BACKGROUND: To introduce a theoretical solution to a posteriori describe the pose of a cylindrical dental fixture as appearing on radiographs; to experimentally validate the method described. METHODS: The pose of a conventional dental implant was described by a triplet of angles (phi-pitch, theta-roll, and psi-yaw) which was calculated throughout vector analysis. Radiographic- and simulated-image obtained with an algorithm were compared to test effectiveness, reproducibility, and accuracy of the method. The length of the dental implant as appearing on the simulated image was calculated by the

Technical note: Estimating original crown height in worn mandibular canines using aspects of dentin morphology.

We present a novel method to estimate original crown height (OCH) for worn human mandibular canines using a cubic regression equation based on ratios of worn crown height and exposed dentin. This method may help alleviate issues frequently presented by worn teeth in dental analyses, including those in bioarchaeology. Mandibular canines (n = 28) from modern day New Zealand and English populations were selected. Crown height and dentin thickness were measured on dental thin sections (n = 19) and the resulting (log10) ratios were fitted to a cubic regression curve allowing OCH in worn crowns to b

The 3D-printed prototype: a new protocol for the evaluation and potential adaptation of monolithic all-ceramic restorations before finalization.

The prototyping protocol to evaluate and make the potential adjustments prior to finalization of the monolithic restorations was described by two clinical situations. In the first case report, following the digital impressions using an intraoral scanner (3Shape Trios, 3Shape) for an implant-supported four-unit fixed dental prosthesis, a digital design (3Shape Dental System, 3Shape) was performed and a prototype using subtractive CAM (milling) (PMMA, Telio CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) was fabricated. The second case highlights the 3D-printed prototyping (additive CAM) (Sheraprint Model Plus UV, Shera

An innovative method for manufacturing the Tuebingen palatal plate for infants with Robin sequence.

BACKGROUND: Robin sequence (RS) is characterized by mandibular micro- and retrognathia, glossoptosis, upper airway obstruction and optionally a cleft palate. With an incidence of 1:8000, it belongs to the so-called rare diseases; 30-50% of patients have RS as part of a syndrome. A comparatively well-studied treatment option is the Tuebingen Palatal Plate (TPP), which has proven effective in both, isolated and syndromic RS, but often requires multiple endoscopies for perfect fit and effectiveness. We report on a new method for fitting the TPP with only one session of nasopharyngeal endoscopy re

Effect of Multiple Use of Impression Copings and Scanbodies on Implant Cast Accuracy.

PURPOSE: There are currently no clear guidelines on the reuse of metal implant impression copings and scanbodies in implant dentistry. Manufacturers generally recommend single use, which has cost and ecological implications. The objectives of this study were to examine the effect of multiple use of implant impression copings and scanbodies on the accuracy of partially dentate implant casts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten direct polyether impressions were made of a partially dentate mandibular acrylic resin master model fitted with two internal connection implants (Straumann RC bone level) in the
