Large cast frameworks rarely fit multiple implant abutments passively without time-consuming labor-intensive adjustment procedures. Intraoral luting of components has been suggested to achieve a passive fit and eliminate most adjustment procedures. When the intraoral luted framework is returned to the master cast, the implant analogs may not be properly aligned to framework abutments. A patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia and anodontia was studied clinically and cephalometrically from 6 to 18 years of age. This case is exceptional in that the patient was a young girl. A 6-year follow-up study was carried out on 28 patients fitted with removable partial dentures. Prior to the prosthetic treatment all patients were given oral hygiene instruction and periodontal therapy where indicated. The removable partial dentures were carefully planned and designed. The semiprecious metals investigated and hard dental gold alloys may be manipulated in a similar manner. The semiprecious metals produced accurate and well-fitted dowels needing minimal adjustment. Being harder than type III gold alloy, they would be ideal for casting dowels and cores. Before considering these semiprecious alloys as final restorations, however, they must be further examined for resistance to tarnish and corrosion and their marginal adaptability and burnishability.
