Clinical considerations for adhesive bridgework.

Many dental practitioners do not use adhesive bridges because of concerns over high failure rates. Techniques for these restorations should be based on the fundamental principles of bridge design which require rigid, accurately fitting frameworks and careful control of the occlusion. The abutments generally require little if any tooth preparation. Greater security will result from more extensive coverage of abutment teeth: the routine use of relative axial tooth movement is a predictable method for creating the space that this approach requires.

The relationship between odontogenic bacteraemia and orthodontic treatment procedures.

The purpose of this research was to estimate the prevalence and intensity of bacteraemia associated with orthodontic treatment procedures. The four procedures investigated were: an upper alginate impression, separator placement, band placement, and adjustment of an archwire on a fixed appliance. Eighty-one children undergoing general anaesthesia (GA) for dento-alveolar surgery related to their orthodontic treatment were randomly allocated to the impression or separator group. A further 61 children, receiving treatment in the Outpatient Department, were included and randomly allocated to the ba

Clinical comparison and performance perspective of three aligning arch wires.

OBJECTIVES: To clinically evaluate three commonly used orthodontic tooth aligning arch wires: 016 x 022 inch active martensitic medium force nickel titanium, 016 x 022 inch graded force active martensitic nickel titanium, and 0.0155 inch multistrand stainless steel. DESIGN: A prospective randomized clinical trial. DATA SOURCE: Measured serial study casts of dental arches for 112 assigned arch wires from 56 consecutive patients. Analysis based on completed records for 98 arch wires and 51 patients. METHOD: A consecutive sample of 56 patients requiring both upper and lower fixed appliance the

[Comparative analysis of edentulous patients treated traditionally and with the use of a face-bow and Quick Master articulator].

Correct determination of the occlusal plane is one of the most difficult stages of treatment. After determining the correct occlusal plane its reproduction is possible thanks to the use of articulators. These instruments simulate movements of the jaw in three planes. One of the most optimal articulators is a semi-adjustable type. These instruments are not complicated and give good treatment results. A modern semiadjustable type of articulator is Quick Master. The face-bow which comes together with this instrument is used for recording and transferring the occlusal relation to the articulator.

Effect of fit adjustment on CEREC CAD-CAM veneers.

PURPOSE: To measure and compare the adaptation of CEREC CAD-CAM porcelain veneers with and without fit adjustment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two groups of porcelain veneers were fabricated using the CEREC CAD-CAM technique for standardized preparations on 10 artificial teeth. Mesial preparation contacts were broken, but distal contacts remained intact. One group was adjusted using a disclosing spray to improve fit, another group made for the same teeth was not adjusted before cementation. The veneers were cemented in a standardized manner to their teeth. The veneers and their attached cement wer

Effect of die spacers on precementation space of complete-coverage restorations.

The authors measured the precementation space achieved in vivo with varying layers of die spacer. Two hundred and ninety-one castings were fabricated in the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry, New York, New York. Each of four clinician groups applied one layer of Taub Die Hardener and from one to four layers of die spacer to within 0.5 to 1.0 mm of the dies' finishing line. The resultant castings were adjusted using GC Fit-Checker. After final seating of the casting, the Fit-Checker was removed, sectioned buccolingually, and measured using

Marginal adaptation of the Concept inlay system.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the fit of the Concept inlay system in three clinically relevant cavity preparations (an occlusal, MO and MOD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The processed inlays were adjusted as needed and seated on master dies. The greatest marginal discrepancy occurring along each margin was recorded and evaluated. RESULTS: The majority of the margins exhibited gaps in the range of 20-45 microns (statistically insignificant) with the exception of the distal margin of the MO which averaged approximately 80 microns and the buccal and lingual margins of the MOD which were approximately 70 micr

[The positioner--a possibility for the fine adjustment of the occlusion objectively assessed by condylar measurements of the discrepancy between the ICP and RCP].

A group of ten adolescents was treated with fixed appliances at the Department of Stomatology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Graz. Subsequently the patients were fitted with a gnathological positioner. On the day of band removal ten sets of models were made and subsequently two, four and twelve weeks later. They were mounted on an articulator and cephalometric measurements were taken three times by each of the examiners. These records served to provide evidence of discrepancies of the condylar position between ICP and RCP in all three planes. In the second part of the examination, the pat
