Group psychedelic-assisted therapy for mental health conditions: a mixed-methods systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The group therapy model has been recently favored as a means of conducting psychedelic assisted therapies for mental health disorders. However, there is a paucity of literature showing strengths or drawbacks of this approach and comparisons of safety and efficacy to individual therapy. This systematic review aims to address this gap in literature. METHODS: We included original research of group psychedelic therapy programs that were peer reviewed and published in English or where a translation was available or possible. Participants must be 18 or older and have a psychiatric diagn

Impact of motor guided imagery therapy on stroke patients with pain symptoms: a three-level meta-analysis and systematic review of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke pain is a common and intractable complication that hinders neurorehabilitation progress. Motor Guided Imagery (MGI), an emerging rehabilitation technique based on brain-computer interaction principles, has shown potential in relieving post-stroke pain, yet high-quality evidence on its multi-dimensional efficacy remains insufficient. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of MGI on pain, sensorimotor function, sleep quality, life status, and psychological mood in stroke patients using a three-level meta-analysis. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to quantitat

Parental Smartphone Use and Children's Emotional Well-Being in Everyday Family Life: Experience Sampling Study.

BACKGROUND: Over the past decade, smartphones have become an integral part of family life, shaping both daily routines and parent-child interactions. Although parental smartphone use in the presence of children is frequently framed as harmful through concepts such as phubbing and technoference, these constructs emphasize disruptive smartphone use and may bias interpretations toward negative effects. Moreover, most previous research has relied on cross-sectional self-report data, limiting insight into how parental smartphone use relates to children's well-being in everyday life. OBJECTIVE: Thi

Psilocybin for anhedonia in unipolar and bipolar depression: A systematic review of clinical and preclinical evidence.

BACKGROUND: Anhedonia is a debilitating core feature of mood disorders, and is associated with significant functional impairment and poor quality of life. Psilocybin has recently emerged as a novel antidepressant treatment in major depressive disorder (MDD), however, its effects on anhedonia specifically have yet to be systematically reviewed. This review evaluates available clinical and pre-clinical research, exploring whether psilocybin influences anhedonia outcomes in pre-clinical and clinical studies. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted of PubMed and Ovid databases using search ter

Receiver operating characteristic-derived thresholds for early validation of myocardial injury in a rat ischemia-reperfusion model.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major manifestation of cardiovascular disease and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In experimental research, rat ischemia-reperfusion (IR) model is widely used to evaluate cardioprotective strategies for translational and clinical purposes. However, early confirmation of successful MI induction often relies on subjective intraoperative observations, and objective criteria for verifying myocardial injury early after IR remain poorly standardized, potentially limiting reproducibility and leading to unnecessary loss of time and reso

Trajectories of kinesiophobia over the first six months after cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator implantation: clinical, psychological, and rehabilitation predictors and their relation to functional capacity.

OBJECTIVE: Kinesiophobia, an excessive fear of physical movement, is common after implantation of a cardiac pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator and may limit rehabilitation and recovery. Because fear of movement changes over time, a single measurement cannot capture how it evolves. We aimed to identify distinct trajectories of kinesiophobia during the first six months after implantation, to relate them to functional capacity, and to identify baseline factors that predict an unfavourable course. METHODS: In a single centre retrospective cohort based on routinely collected struc

Integrating Behavioral Interventions into the Routine Immunization System in Chad: Implementation Lessons from a Fragile Setting.

Despite global progress, COVID-19 pandemic disruptions increased immunization inequities, particularly in fragile contexts like Chad. In 2022-2023, Chad reported 124,544 zero-dose children, in addition to 122,935 children who were classified as under-vaccinated. Low immunization uptake reflects persistent barriers related to access, knowledge, misinformation, and hesitancy. Behavioral interventions, adapted to low-resource settings, can help address these challenges. Anchored in the WHO Behavioral and Social Drivers (BeSD) framework and aligned with the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030), we de

Pharmacological Interventions for Acute Stress Disorder and for the Prevention and Treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder in Children and Adolescents: A Narrative Review.

Traumatic events are common during childhood and adolescence and may lead to acute stress disorder (ASD) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), both associated with developmental, cognitive and functional impairment. Although trauma-focused psychotherapies are recommended as first-line treatments, pharmacological interventions are frequently used in clinical practice despite limited evidence in paediatric populations. To review the evidence on pharmacological interventions for the prevention and treatment of paediatric ASD and PTSD, we reviewed the literature published up to December 2025.

More than just accuracy: A pathway-level framework for implementing blood and digital biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease care.

Blood biomarkers are transforming Alzheimer's disease diagnostics by enabling a scalable, minimally invasive assessment of pathology. Food and Drug Administration clearances and European market certifications of different plasma tests mark a shift toward biological diagnosis in routine care. However, clinical implementation is not guided by diagnostic accuracy alone but will depend on improved patient-centered and pathway-level outcomes, including diagnostic confidence, the appropriate use of CSF and PET assessments, time to diagnosis, amyloid-targeting treatment eligibility assessment, and tr

Modifications to cognitive behavioural therapies for depression and anxiety in adults with neurological disorders: A qualitative analysis of intervention protocols.

Cognitive and Behavioural-based Therapies (CBT) can effectively manage symptoms of depression and anxiety. However, adults with neurological disorders (NDs) often face cognitive, physical, and social challenges that make it difficult to engage with traditional forms of these treatments. To address this, CBT protocols have been modified to better suit the needs of this population. This study analysed 41 randomized controlled trials with modified CBT-based protocols for treating symptoms of depression and/or anxiety in adults with a ND. It spanned 10 different NDs : stroke, epilepsy, migraine, P

Adverse childhood experiences and functional stability in the affective-to-psychotic spectrum: a longitudinal multistate analysis of employment and relationship outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) exert transdiagnostic influences on disorders of the affective-to-psychotic spectrum which share genetic similarities. While ACEs are established risk factors for developing disorders across this spectrum, the impact of ACEs on functional outcomes in adulthood remains insufficiently understood. This study aims to investigate the impact of ACEs on functional outcomes such as relationship and employment stability. METHODS: We used multistate Markov models to analyze data from the longitudinal PsyCourse Study (N = 810) to investigate whether ACEs

Serum β-synuclein predicts dementia conversion and mortality beyond amyloid-β and phospho-tau.

Synaptic dysfunction is among the earliest pathological events in Alzheimer's disease and among the strongest neuropathological correlates of cognitive impairment, yet blood-based synaptic biomarkers are lacking. Whether serum β-synuclein provides prognostic information independent of established amyloid-β (A; CSF Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio) and tau (T1; CSF pTau181) biomarkers has not been determined. We studied 259 non-demented individuals with subjective or mild cognitive impairment from a single-centre memory clinic, classified by CSF biomarkers using externally validated cut-offs into A-T1- controls

Association of coping pathways with anxiety symptoms in children with hematological cancers: a cross-sectional study using regression and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis.

BACKGROUND: Children with hematological cancers are vulnerable to anxiety symptoms during chemotherapy. Coping is a modifiable psychosocial factor that can be assessed and supported in pediatric oncology nursing practice. However, previous studies have mainly examined coping strategies separately, providing limited insight into how different coping characteristics may co-occur among children with varying levels of anxiety symptoms. This study aimed to examine coping-related factors associated with anxiety symptoms and to identify coping configurations associated with high and low anxiety sympt

Dual benefit of esketamine-based opioid-free anesthesia on postoperative pain and mental health outcomes in patients undergoing bariatric surgery: a randomized controlled trial.

Patients with morbid obesity are at a high risk of comorbid depressive and anxiety symptoms. While bariatric surgery is an effective treatment, conventional opioid-based anesthesia carries significant perioperative risks. Opioid-free anesthesia (OFA) presents a safer alternative. Esketamine, known for its dual analgesic and rapid antidepressant effects, is a promising component of OFA. However, clinical evidence supporting its simultaneous benefits for both physical and psychological recovery in bariatric patients remains limited. In this double-blind, randomized clinical trial, patients sched

Duration of untreated illness in eating disorders: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-regression.

INTRODUCTION: Eating disorders (EDs) substantially impair physical health, psychological well-being, and social functioning. Shorter untreated illness duration has been proposed to be associated with better outcomes, though evidence for this relationship remains mixed. Nonetheless, delays in accessing treatment remain common and contribute to prolonged suffering and risk of lasting harm. This study aimed to estimate the duration of untreated eating disorder (DUED) and examine potential moderators. METHODS: A PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted.
