Morphometric analysis of the maxillofacial region for Le Fort I osteotomy in patients with cleft lip and palate.

Patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) exhibit complex maxillary morphology, including hypoplasia, making Le Fort I osteotomy challenging and prone to complications. The aim of this retrospective, comparative study was to improve the safety of Le Fort I osteotomy by analysing the maxillary structure of patients with CLP. Fifteen unilateral CLP cases with maxillary hypoplasia (six males, nine females) and 15 non-CLP cases undergoing mandibular setback for prognathism (four males, 11 females) were evaluated. Axial computed tomographic (CT) images at 2.5 and 5 mm above the nasal floor were anal

Posterior superior alveolar artery in severely atrophic maxillae prior to lateral sinus augmentation: a retrospective cross-sectional CBCT imaging study.

BACKGROUND: Vascular injury to the posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) during lateral sinus floor augmentation is a recognized surgical complication, yet data on PSAA anatomy in severely atrophic edentulous maxillae remain scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, location patterns, and morphometric characteristics of the PSAA in this specific population using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: Preoperative CBCT scans of 121 patients (242 sinuses) with severely atrophic posterior maxillae (residual ridge height ≤ 5 mm) were retrospectively analyzed. PSAA location

Optimizing Surgical Trajectories to the Petroclival Region: Anatomic Predictors and Access Enhancement With Modified Contralateral Transmaxillary Approaches.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Endoscopic transnasal surgery offers a minimally invasive alternative to transcranial approaches for accessing midline skull base lesions involving the petrous apex and petroclival region. However, lateral access, particularly behind the petrous internal carotid artery (ICA), remains limited. The contralateral transmaxillary (CTM) approach provides a more direct surgical trajectory, more parallel to the petrous ICA. Yet, lateral access through this approach can be restricted by anatomic barriers, including the pterygoid process and lateral buttress of the maxillary s

SinusNet+: Deep Condition-Label-Free Segmentation of Maxillary Sinus Conditions in CBCT images.

BACKGROUND: Segmentation of maxillary sinus conditions (MSC) in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images may support preoperative assessment in the posterior maxilla, including implant planning and sinus floor augmentation. Supervised deep learning methods for MSC segmentation typically rely on labor-intensive manual annotation of MSC for network training. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a condition-label-free deep learning framework (SinusNet+) for MSC segmentation in CBCT images, in which network training does not require manual MSC annotations and instead relies on

Radiographic and histomorphometric comparison of two-stage maxillary sinus floor augmentation using different grafting materials: a systematic review and network meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials.

This study was performed to evaluate the various commercially available materials used in two-stage maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA). Comprehensive searches were conducted across PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Scopus up to October 2, 2025. A manual search was also conducted to complement the electronic search. The analysis was restricted to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that reported both radiographic and histological evaluations. Studies that did not incorporate graft materials were excluded. A frequentist network meta-analysis using a random-effects model was employed to

Morphometric analysis of maxillary air sinus: A cross sectional cadaveric study among North Indian population.

The anatomical dimensions of the maxillary sinus may vary across populations, with limited cadaveric data available for the North Indian population. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the morphometric dimensions of the maxillary sinus in North Indian cadavers, assessing bilateral variations. The results revealed the mean sinus height, width, anteroposterior length and volume in this population. Slight variations were noted between sides, but the differences were not statistically significant. Thus, we report baseline morphometric data of the maxillary sinus in the North Indian population

Weighted knowledge distillation for semi-supervised segmentation of maxillary sinus in panoramic X-ray images.

Accurate segmentation of maxillary sinus in panoramic X-ray images is essential for dental diagnosis and surgical planning; however, this task remains relatively underexplored in dental imaging research. Structural overlap, ambiguous anatomical boundaries inherent to two-dimensional panoramic projections, and the limited availability of large scale clinical datasets with reliable pixel-level annotations make the development and evaluation of segmentation models challenging. To address these challenges, we propose a semi-supervised segmentation framework that effectively leverages both labeled

[Challenges and clinical strategies for endodontic microsurgery in the posterior maxillary region].

The posterior maxillary region presents substantial challenges in endodontic microsurgery owing to its unique anatomical position and intricate root canal anatomy. Three factors contribute to this complexity: first, the posterior location and limited surgical field, compounded by prominent buccal and palatal contours, severely limit visual clarity and operative maneuverability. Second, the complex root canal anatomy‒particularly isthmuses and the second mesiobuccal canal‒increases the difficulties and risks associated with root-end resection and retrograde obturation. Third, the intimate proxi

Delayed-onset maxillary sinus-cutaneous fistula of the lower eyelid following zygomatic implant removal: A case report.

Zygomatic implants are an effective option for rehabilitating severely atrophic maxillae, but can occasionally cause complications involving the maxillary sinus and surrounding soft tissues. We report a rare case of a delayed cutaneous fistula that developed 1 year after zygomatic implant removal. A 62-year-old man with progressive tooth loss due to familial aggressive periodontitis underwent zygomatic implant placement, which failed because of sinusitis and was subsequently removed. One year later, he presented with a mass at the lateral lower eyelid. Computed tomography demonstrated a linear

CBCT-Based 3D Assessment of Maxillary Sinus and Pharyngeal Airway in Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate.

BACKGROUND: Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is one of the most common congenital craniofacial anomalies, often associated with structural variations in the maxillary sinus and pharyngeal airway. These alterations may predispose individuals to complications such as sinusitis and obstructive sleep apnea. While previous studies have investigated these structures, most relied on two-dimensional imaging, which has inherent limitations for evaluating three-dimensional structures. Moreover, the maxillary sinus and airway have rarely been evaluated together in a unified three-dimensional framework, despite
