Endoscopic Pterygoid Process Resection Without Maxillary Sinus Breach in Total Maxillectomy.

This technical note describes two endoscopic transnasal techniques for pterygomaxillary junction detachment during total maxillectomy that preserve the integrity of the maxillary sinus. A lower cut at the level of the nasal floor and an upper cut below the vidian canal are presented through cadaveric dissection and a clinical case. These sinus-sparing approaches enable direct visualization of the posterior maxillary osteotomy, facilitate assessment of posterior margins, and maintain the tumor within an intact maxillary sinus compartment.

Volumetric Assessment of Maxillary Sinus Using CBCT in Relation to Sinonasal Anatomic Variations in an Iraqi Population.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary sinus volume (MSV) influences sinus floor elevation, dental implant planning, and rhinologic decision-making. Anatomic variants [nasal septal deviation (NSD), concha bullosa (CB), maxillary sinus septa (MSS)] and mucosal thickening (MT) may alter aeration/ventilation and, consequently, MSV; prior reports are mixed. OBJECTIVE: To compare MSV among normal, NSD, MSS, inferior concha bullosa (ICB), and mucosal thickening (MT >2 mm) groups in an Iraqi CBCT cohort. DESIGN SETTING PARTICIPANTS: A retrospective cross-sectional study of 200 adult CBCT scans obtained for dentomax

Prevalence and Predisposing Factors of Periapical Mucositis: A Cross-Sectional Study.

AIM: Periapical mucositis (PAM) is defined as inflammation of the periapical tissues and localized oedema of the maxillary sinus mucosa, typically resulting from periradicular disease. Radiographically on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), PAM presents as mucosal thickening or a dome-shaped soft tissue expansion along the floor of the maxillary sinus, adjacent to the affected root apex. Although several studies have evaluated PAM, their findings vary considerably. This study aims (1) to evaluate the prevalence of PAM in maxillary posterior teeth amongst patients at NYU College of Dentistry,

Endoscopic Removal of a Displaced Dental Implant From the Tail of the Inferior Nasal Concha.

Accidental displacement of dental implants into adjacent anatomical cavities is a rare but clinically significant complication of implant surgery. Migration into the nasal cavity, particularly into posterior regions such as the tail of the inferior nasal concha, is exceedingly uncommon and sparsely documented in the literature. Prompt radiographic evaluation and coordinated interdisciplinary management are essential in preventing secondary complications and determining the most appropriate treatment approach. We present the case of a 65-year-old woman who was referred after an accidental displ

Evaluation of maxillary sinus pneumatization amongst different age groups and genders: A CBCT based study.

Excessive pneumatization can reduce the available alveolar bone height, increase the risk of surgical complications and limit prosthetic options. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate maxillary sinus pneumatization in 200 adults across three age groups by measuring the distance between the maxillary sinus floor and nasal cavity floor at posterior tooth sites. Men showed significantly greater MSP than women in Groups I and II (p=0.004 and 0.001), while Type I pneumatization predominated across all groups, decreasing from Group I to III. Excessive MSP reduces alveolar bone height, raising sur
