Toothache and temporomandibular disorder-like symptoms as red flags for maxillary sinus carcinoma.

A case of a patient with left maxillary molar pain unresponsive to standard dental treatment is presented. Advanced imaging revealed an aggressive lesion in the maxillary sinus with associated bone destruction, soft tissue extension, and diffusion restriction suggestive of malignancy. The lesion was subsequently confirmed as maxillary sinus carcinoma. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges associated with nonspecific temporomandibular disorder-like symptoms and emphasizes the importance of recognizing red flags as prompts for cross-sectional imaging and specialist referral, which are e

A Stepwise Approach to Managing Bilateral Maxillary Sinus Tracts: A Case Report.

This case report describes a rare presentation of bilateral intraoral sinus tracts of odontogenic origin associated with a maxillary right first molar (Universal #3). A key diagnostic challenge was differentiating an endodontic infection from vertical root fracture (VRF) in a previously treated tooth; no J-shaped probing defect was detected. The tooth was managed with single-visit nonsurgical root canal retreatment, resulting in symptom resolution and progressive radiographic healing. At nine-month follow-up, both sinus tracts had completely resolved, and the tooth remained asymptomatic and fu

Intrasinus versus extrasinus zygomatic implant placement: A 5-year retrospective observational analysis of survival and complications.

BACKGROUND: Edentulism, a common condition, may be congenital or acquired later in life as a result of dental caries, periodontitis, aging, craniofacial trauma, or tumor resection. The rehabilitation of missing teeth can be achieved with dental implants. In cases of insufficient alveolar bone, several treatment options have been described in the literature, including maxillary sinus augmentation with bone grafting, the Le Fort I osteotomy, the angulated placement of conventional implants, and the use of specialized implants, such as zygomatic implants, which are anchored in the zygomatic bone.

Sinus Floor Elevation From Palatal Approach With Simultaneous Implant Placement: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: In traditional maxillary sinus lift elevation with simultaneous implant placement with deficient residual bone in the posterior region of the maxilla, lateral window osteotomy is commonly employed. However, due to specific anatomical variations, such as an excessively thick buccal bone wall, a palatal approach with simultaneous implant placement may serve as a preferable alternative in selected cases. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old male requested implant-supported restoration in the left maxillary posterior region. Preoperative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) revealed ins

Innovative use of syringe plunger to secure contrast medium during indirect sinus lift: A technical note.

The indirect sinus lift for maxillary sinus augmentation is a common, less invasive solution for placing dental implants. However, the patency of the membrane not to get perforated during the procedure is questionable. A contrast medium, for example, Iohexol, held in the osteotomy site, can be a great guide to ensure membrane integrity. In this technical note, we present an innovative use of the syringe plunger as a stop to hold the contrast media in the osteotomy site in indirect sinus lift procedures.

A Foundation Model for Generalisable Detection of Maxillary Sinus Abnormalities: A Multicentre and Clinical Applicability Study.

OBJECTIVES: Maxillary sinus abnormalities reduce quality of life and can be life-threatening. However, traditional supervised deep learning models for their detection are constrained by class-specific training, reliance on large-scale labelled datasets, and unpredictable generalisability. This study aims to achieve intelligent detection of complex and variable maxillary sinus abnormalities via self-supervised learning. METHOD: A maxillary sinus foundation model (MSFound) was developed using self-supervised learning on 30 794 unlabeled maxillary sinus images. Clinical validation of reconstruct

A two-stage lateral sinus lift with Alb-PRF gel: enhancing bone regeneration - a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Maxillary sinus augmentation traditionally uses xenografts, allografts, or autografts. This case report details a novel, entirely autologous technique using albumin-denatured platelet-rich fibrin (Alb-PRF) gel as the sole grafting material in a two-stage lateral sinus lift - an approach rarely documented. CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old male with a residual bone height of 4-5 mm (mean: 4.3 mm) underwent a two-stage lateral sinus lift. The sinus cavity was grafted exclusively with Alb-PRF gel, and the lateral window was left uncovered without a barrier membrane. After 6 months,

Management of odontogenic sinusitis related to dental implants and maxillary sinus grafting: a retrospective single-center study.

BACKGROUND: The increasing use of dental implants is changing the epidemiology of Odontogenic Sinusitis (ODS). Aside from endodontic causes, we frequently encounter problems caused by implant placement and bone augmentation techniques, which present a distinct pathophysiological profile compared to classic ODS. This study analyzed the clinical features of pre-implant (Group I) and implant-related ODS (Group II) to establish surgical management strategies according to the Felisati classification. METHODS: This retrospective single-center study analyzed 45 patients treated between December 2020
