The 'sausage technique' for the repair of large maxillary sinus membrane perforations.

Maxillary sinus membrane perforation is a common complication of lateral window sinus floor elevation and causes significant therapeutic challenges. A novel intrasinus 'sausage technique' is presented that involves spanning a collagen membrane across the osteotomy window with dual internal-external fixation. A stable protective membrane is used to encapsulate the bone grafts, simultaneously isolating perforations and preserving sinus floor vascularity. Clinical applications of this technique have demonstrated its ability to reliably repair large or complete perforations and improve success rat

Occult Maxillary Sinus Phosphaturic Mesenchymal Tumor Localized by 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT After Repeated Negative Parathyroid Imaging.

We describe the imaging findings of a phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor arising in the left maxillary sinus in a 34-year-old woman with persistent hypophosphatemia and elevated parathyroid hormone levels who had undergone repeated evaluation for primary hyperparathyroidism despite negative parathyroid imaging. 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT demonstrated an unexpected somatostatin receptor-avid lesion in this exceptionally rare location. Surgical resection resulted in rapid biochemical and clinical recovery, while histopathology and single-cell RNA sequencing revealed a distinct FGF23- and PHEX-expressing t

Use of Autotransplantation of Wisdom Tooth in Managing Oroantral Communication.

Oroantral communication (OAC) is a known complication of maxillary tooth extraction that may lead to issues such as oroantral fistula formation and chronic maxillary sinus disease if left untreated. Although several surgical techniques for OAC closure have been described in the existing research, autotransplantation of a third molar represents a rarely reported alternative. This method not only allows for the closure of OAC but also restores masticatory function and may be an alternative to implantation. This review evaluates the available literature on third molar autotransplantation for OAC

Radiological Feasibility of the Endoscopic Transnasal Prelacrimal Recess Approach.

BACKGROUND: Prelacrimal recess (PLR) distance, medial wall thickness, and the internal angle of the pyriform notch (APN) have been suggested by various studies as assessment metrics to determine the feasibility and intraoperative difficulty of the transnasal prelacrimal recess approach (TPRA), with ethnic variations. OBJECTIVE: To assess the computed tomography (CT) scan feasibility of endoscopic TPRA in healthy and diseased paranasal sinuses. METHODS: Our sample consisted of 750 adults (1,500 sides) who had CT of the nose and paranasal sinuses (PNS) for various indications. The CT scans wer

CT-based morphometric analysis of the zygomatic region: infraorbital foramen localization, bone thickness, and sutural relationships.

BACKGROUND: The zygomatic region is surgically important because its bone architecture and relationships with the infraorbital foramen (IOF), coronoid process (CP), and maxillary sinus (MS) influence anatomical orientation during implant placement, fracture fixation, and osteotomy procedures. However, these structures have generally been evaluated separately, and integrated computed tomography (CT)-based assessment using standardized sutural landmarks remains limited. This study aimed to establish a CT-based morphometric framework for the zygomatic region and evaluate anatomical variation by s

Machine learning-driven forensic sex prediction using CT-based nasal and maxillary sinus metrics.

BACKGROUND: Sex determination is a key component of forensic identification, especially in cases involving fragmented or decomposed human remains where conventional skeletal markers are unavailable. The maxillary sinus and nasal structures are protected craniofacial components that exhibit sexual dimorphism and may aid sex estimation. This study evaluated computed tomography (CT)-based anthropometric measurements of these structures for sex determination in an Egyptian population using machine learning (ML). METHODS: A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted on 195 adult Egyptians (10

Intraoperative Displacement of a Pterygoid Implant into the Pterygopalatine Fossa and Its Surgical Retrieval: A Case Report.

Background/Objectives: Pterygoid implants are increasingly used to provide distal support in full-arch maxillary rehabilitation, improving biomechanical stability and reducing posterior cantilevers. Despite high reported survival rates, their placement is technically demanding because of the complex anatomy of the pterygomaxillary region and the proximity of critical neurovascular structures. Implant displacement into adjacent deep anatomical spaces is a rare but potentially serious complication. The aim of this report is to describe the management of sequential intraoperative complications in

Case Report: Sinonasal plasmablastic lymphoma in a human immunodeficiency virus-negative elderly woman diagnosed by immunohistochemistry.

BACKGROUND: Plasmablastic lymphoma is a rare, highly aggressive mature B-cell lymphoma with terminal B-cell/plasma-cell differentiation. It usually arises in the oral cavity in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection or other forms of immunodeficiency, whereas primary sinonasal involvement in an apparently immunocompetent patient is uncommon. On hematoxylin-and-eosin examination, it may histomorphologically resemble poorly differentiated epithelial, melanocytic, and other hematolymphoid malignancies, necessitating a broad immunohistochemical panel for definitive diagnosis.
