We report a case of 16-year-old woman with craniofacial impalement injury by javelin (used by athletic sports) thrown from a distance of 30 meters. When the patient was admitted to the emergency department, the javelin had been in the orbita, and the patient was assessed by trauma team including an anesthesiologist. The patient was alert and complained of severe pain. Head CT and X-ray indicated the javelin had entered though the orbita into the maxillary sinus. The Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery has posibilitated a change in the diagnosis, treatment and postsurgical management of many nasosinusal diseases. Mucoceles of the paranasal sinuses are an ideal indication for performing these surgical procedures when good accesibility conditions are present. Under these circumstances, external approach, with the subsequent impairments and morbility, could be avoided. An endoscopically treated extensive maxilloethmoydal mucocele is presented and key points to endoscopic treatment indication are provided.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to present patients with sinus augmentation in the presence of an antral pseudocyst and the surgical procedure, complications, and outcome.
STUDY DESIGN: From 2002 to 2005, 109 patients were scheduled for 1- or 2-stage maxillary sinus floor augmentation (n = 129) because of inadequate alveolar bone height for implant placement. Radiographically, a significant antral pseudocyst was shown.

OBJECTIVE: Women with previous gestational diabetes (GDM) are at increased risk of subsequent type 2 diabetes. To characterize early metabolic abnormalities associated with this increased risk, we studied normoglycaemic women with a history of GDM.
PATIENTS AND MEASUREMENTS: We performed an insulin-modified, frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance test (FSIVGTT) in 34 normoglycaemic European women with previous GDM and 44 European control women, deriving measures of insulin sensitivity, glucose effectiveness, glucose disappearance rate and acute insulin response to glucose.
