When standardisation meets everyday life: exploring the fit between cardiac rehabilitation and everyday life for people with heart failure.

PURPOSE: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a recommended secondary prevention intervention, typically delivered as a standardised, evidence-based programme. At the same time, contemporary healthcare increasingly emphasises person-centred care responsive to individuals' everyday lives and needs. How this tension between standardisation and accommodating complexity of everyday life unfolds during CR and its consequences remains unclear. This study explored the fit between standardised CR and the everyday lives and needs of people with heart failure (HF). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eleven newly diagnos

Association between the 30-s chair stand test and peak oxygen uptake in patients undergoing cardiopulmonary exercise testing: A large retrospective internal and external validation study.

BACKGROUND: Peak oxygen uptake (peak VO2) assessed by cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is the gold standard for evaluating exercise capacity, but its routine use is limited in many clinical settings. This retrospective study investigated the association between 30-s chair stand test (CS-30) performance and peak VO2 and developed a prediction model with internal (Facility A) and external (Facility B) validation. METHODS: This study initially included 3652 patients who underwent CPET and physical function assessments between January 2020 and December 2025. After excluding 75 patients wit

Lifestyle strategies and nutraceuticals in chronic venous disease: an evidence-weighted synthesis and clinical positioning.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Chronic venous disease (CVD), including chronic venous insufficiency and venous leg ulcers (VLU), is common and substantially impairs quality of life. Compression is the cornerstone of conservative care, but lifestyle measures and selected nutraceuticals may provide additional benefit. This review aims to synthesize and clinically position evidence on adiposity, weight management, diet-related factors, and venoactive nutraceuticals across CVD phenotypes. METHODS: Evidence from epidemiological studies, clinical cohorts, randomized trials, and meta-analyses was summarized u

Effect of Short-Rest Interval versus Traditional Multiple-Set Resistance Training Combined with Endurance Training in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

This randomized clinical trial compared short-rest interval resistance training (3/7 RT) with traditional multiple-set resistance training (3×9 RT) during a 12-week supervised cardiac rehabilitation program in patients with cardiovascular disease. Seventy-one participants were randomized to endurance training combined with either 3/7 RT (n=37) or 3×9 RT (n=34), performed three times per week. Primary outcomes were changes in VO₂peak and quadriceps strength; secondary outcomes included 30-s sit-to-stand performance and total lean mass. VO₂peak increased similarly in both groups (+3.6±3.3 vs. +4

Five-year implementation and longitudinal performance of a multidisciplinary acute myocardial infarction program in a middle-income country.

BACKGROUND: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains a leading cause of mortality in low- and middle-income countries, where delayed reperfusion worsens outcomes. Evidence on the long-term operation of multidisciplinary AMI programs in these settings is limited. We aimed to describe the five-year performance of a multidisciplinary AMI program in quality-of-care indicators and clinical outcomes. METHODS: Prospective cohort of adults with type 1 AMI treated between 2021 and 2025 in an internationally multidisciplinary AMI Center of Excellence, integrating standardized reperfusion pathways, mul

Exercise can stimulate physiological cardiac growth and provide cardioprotection effect in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. MiR-210 is regulated in the adaptation process induced by exercise; however, its impact on exercise-induced physiological cardiac growth and its contribution to exercise-driven cardioprotection remain unclear. We investigated the role and mechanism of miR-210 in exercise-induced physiological cardiac growth and explored whether miR-210 contributes to exercise-induced protection in alleviating I/R injury. Here, we first observed that regular swimming exercise can markedl

Cost-effectiveness analysis of a cardio-oncology rehabilitation framework compared to an exercise intervention for cancer survivors with high cardiovascular risk.

AIMS: A cardio-oncology rehabilitation model among cancer survivors showed superior results compared with those of a community-based exercise intervention. However, questions remain about its cost-effectiveness. This study aims to assess the cost-effectiveness of a centre-based cardiac rehabilitation (CBCR) programme when compared to usual care encompassing a community-based exercise training (CBET), among cancer survivors with high cardiovascular risk. METHODS AND RESULTS: The CORE study was a single-centre, prospective, randomized controlled trial; 80 adult cancer survivors with previous ex
