Development and validation of the pandemic fear perception and adaptability scale.

INTRODUCTION: Individuals exhibit specific behavioral responses to fear and stress. The Pandemic Fear Perception and Adaptability Scale (PFPA) is a novel instrument designed to assess fear perception and behavioral adaptability in the context of pandemics. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 923 participants in China to evaluate the psychometric properties of the PFPA. After expert review, a 7-item scale was developed, comprising three subscales: self-efficacy, perceived susceptibility, and perceived threat. Classical test theory, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch

The role of Christianity in residential drug rehabilitation in Hong Kong: A lens of respectability politics.

Faith-based programs are widely used for treating addiction in several countries. Although they are predominantly used in Hong Kong, how they function within the Chinese cultural context remains unknown, particularly for irreligious individuals. Therefore, this study examines how respectability politics are applied within a faith-based drug rehabilitation community in Hong Kong, where religious norms and therapeutic practices shape the residents' experiences. Based on ethnographic fieldwork and 29 semi-structured interviews, the findings revealed that respectability politics manifests as an in

The effect of anodal transcranial direct current stimulation on affective impulsivity in methamphetamine users: A randomized experimental study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) is associated with significant impairments in impulsivity control, contributing to relapse and poor treatment outcomes. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) may be helpful in modulating these symptoms. This study aimed at [1] investigating the differential effects of anodal and cathodal tDCS on craving, affective impulsivity, and motor impulsivity; and [2] exploring the correlations between changes in affective impulsivity & drug craving, and alterations in resting-state elect

Hippocampal transcranial temporal interference stimulation reduced craving in methamphetamine use disorder.

BACKGROUND: Craving is a key challenge in treating methamphetamine use disorder (MUD). The memory reconsolidation theory indicates that interference with MUD after drug memory retrieval helps to reduce craving. Previous studies have demonstrated the importance of the hippocampus in memory consolidation, but traditional non-invasive interventions cannot effectively locate and intervene in the hippocampus. Although tTIS can accurately intervene in deep brain regions, it is still unknown whether tTIS intervention on the MUD hippocampus is effective in reducing craving. METHOD: A total of 40 male

Effectiveness of a Group Behavioral Activation Intervention for Subthreshold Depression in Chinese University Students: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Subthreshold depression (SD) is prevalent among Chinese undergraduates, often leading to impaired academic and social functioning, and elevated risk for major depressive disorder (MDD). Behavioral activation (BA) is an evidence-based treatment for depression, but its effectiveness and mechanisms for SD in this population remain relatively limited. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a culturally adapted, group-based BA intervention for reducing SD symptoms, increasing environmental rewards (ERs), and promoting behavioral activation. Forty-one undergraduates

Research on drug addiction detection based on AR-TSNET with bimodal EEG-NIRS.

Traditional research on drug addiction assessment relies primarily on psychological scales, self-reports from drug users, and subjective judgments from doctors, ands lacks objective physiological indicators and quantitative evaluation. This study introduces a visual trigger paradigm designed to elicit drug cravings in individuals with substance addiction, employing Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) for data acquisition. The dataset comprises recordings from 20 healthy individuals and 36 individuals with drug addiction. A deep learning algorithm named AR-TSNET, wh

Altered resting-state functional connectivity in male individuals with methamphetamine use disorder at two different withdrawal periods: spotlight on the paraventricular thalamic nucleus.

Preclinical research highlights the paraventricular thalamic nucleus as important in various stages of substance use disorder. However, there is limited research on it in relation to methamphetamine, especially regarding its functional changes after long-term abstinence. This study aims to understand the alterations in functional connectivity of the paraventricular thalamic nucleus in methamphetamine abstainers and its correlation with drug craving at two different withdrawal periods. A total of 49 subjects were allocated to the short-term withdrawal group, 44 to the long-term withdrawal group

Exploring the influence of parenting styles and childhood abuse on impulsivity in young and middle-aged patients with new drug dependency: A network analysis.

BACKGROUND: New drug dependency poses a significant threat to global mental health and behavior. Impulsivity - defined as poor self-control and delay discounting - is a well-established risk factor for substance abuse and relapse. Although childhood experiences are known to influence impulsivity, the specific roles of parenting styles and childhood abuse to new drug dependency remain underexplored. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 1,042 patients with new drug dependency. Data were collected using the Revised Short-Form Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran for Chinese, Childhood Trau

Successful treatment of pulmonary hypertension due to HIV infection and amphetamine snorting: a case report.

HIV infection is one of the high-risk factors for pulmonary hypertension (PH). HIV-related PH is associated with non-AIDS-related comorbidities. In this study, we report a case of pulmonary hypertension with several concomitant risk factors who experienced a complete clinical improvement after drug rehabilitation, application of anti-retroviral therapy (ART), and sildenafil. A 37-year-old HIV-positive man complained about worsening dyspnea was diagnosed with severe PH. PH in this case was characterized by association with multi-factors, including amphetamine inhalation, HIV infection, bacteria

Atypical contributions of reward decisions to momentary mood in individuals with methamphetamine use disorder.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) are often accompanied by severe mood dysregulation, leading to more frequent irrational decisions such as drug-seeking behavior. Existing research indicates that the impairment of the reward system is central to the development of addiction. However, it remains unclear how the abnormal reward processing affects the mood regulation abilities of individuals with MUD. In this study, we explored the cognitive and computational mechanisms through which the subjective mood of individuals with MUD is influenced by reward information duri
