Lived Experiences and Coping Strategies of Newly Recruited ICU Nurses in a Resource-Constrained Hospital in Ghana.

AIM: To explore the lived experiences and coping strategies of newly recruited intensive care unit (ICU) nurses in a resource-constrained setting in Accra, Ghana. DESIGN: An exploratory, descriptive qualitative study was conducted. METHODS: We purposively recruited 12 newly recruited nurses from the ICUs of a teaching hospital in Accra. The participants were interviewed using a pilot-tested interview guide. The interviews were audio-taped, transcribed verbatim, and analysed using thematic analysis with the aid of Nvivo 11. RESULTS/FINDINGS: The main themes identified were experiences and co

resiLIR HCP: A self-guided digital resilience intervention for healthcare professionals focusing on self-care and self-compassion - A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare professionals (HCPs) experience high occupational stress, contributing to mental health problems and workforce attrition. Scalable, low-threshold digital resilience interventions may alleviate this burden. OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of resiLIR HCP, a 6-week, self-guided, web-based intervention focusing on self-care and self-compassion with brief daily exercises, in promoting HCP resilience. METHODS: HCPs (N = 234, IG: n = 118, CG: n = 116) were randomized to the intervention or a waitlist control group. Online assessments we

Behavior Change Interventions to Promote Healthy Lifestyles Among Adolescent and Young Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent and young adult childhood cancer survivors (AYA-CCS) face elevated risks of chronic health conditions and premature mortality further exacerbated by poor lifestyle behaviors including physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and substance use. Behavioral interventions are essential for supporting long-term health in this population; however, the evidence remains fragmented and unbalanced across lifestyle domains. This scoping review aimed to identify and describe behavioral interventions promoting healthy lifestyles among AYA-CCS, focusing on four domains (physical activity,

#KindnessbyPost: a pre-post, observational evaluation and feasibility study of a participatory public mental health intervention.

BACKGROUND: #KindnessbyPost (KbP) is a "national kindness exchange". Participants send and receive a card by post to different, unknown people containing messages of good will. Previous evidence suggests participation in KbP may reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing. We evaluated the outcomes and administrative costs of KbP and explored the feasibility of collecting health economic measures for future research. METHODS: We used a pre-post, observational study design. Participants in two separate KbP exchanges in 2021 were invited to complete an online questionnaire. It included self-reporte

[Promoting physical activity through digital technologies: everyday physical activity and mental health].

Physical activity is essential for physical and mental health. Yet intentions to be active often do not translate into action in everyday life. Habits, situational influences and momentary experiences may contribute to this gap between intention and behaviour. Digital technologies can capture these factors and physical activity in daily life and support tailored interventions. This narrative review first outlines models of reflective and automatic influences on physical activity. It then introduces ambulatory assessment for repeatedly measuring physical activity and psychological experiences in

Virtual Reality for Enhancing Self-Compassion and Reducing Burnout Among Mental Health Care Professionals: Protocol for a Pilot Feasibility Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Mental health care professionals working in high-demand clinical environments are frequently exposed to patient suffering and trauma, placing them at increased risk for burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Compassion-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CF-CBT) has shown promise in reducing psychological distress and enhancing self-compassion; however, traditional delivery methods may be limited by time, accessibility, and resource constraints. Virtual reality (VR) may provide an immersive and accessible approach for delivering compassion-focused interventions. OBJECTIVE: The

Predicting trail-making test performance using 7-Tesla structural cerebral MRI.

Psychopharmaceutical therapy has seen a lack of improvement in efficacy, highlighting the need for a more individualized treatment approach that optimally leverages pharmaceutical effects. To achieve this, it is necessary to identify factors that can predict psychological attributes and treatment outcomes. We hypothesize that brain morphology may serve as a predictor of performance in psychological tests. A 7-Tesla-MRI system was used to measure 74 transdiagnostic patients and 41 healthy controls. Values for grey matter volume (GMV), cortical thickness and gyrification based on the Schaefer 10

Emotion regulation and its association with subjective memory performance among undergraduate students at port said university.

BACKGROUND: Emotion regulation (ER), particularly through cognitive reappraisal (CR) and expressive suppression (ES), plays an important role in psychological well-being and higher-order cognitive functioning. Both ER and subjective memory performance (SMP), as measured by the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ), have been proposed to draw on shared executive control resources. Although memory complaints have been reported among Egyptian university students, the association between ER strategies and SMP remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to assess ER strategies

Physiological Synchrony Across Modalities Within and Between Individuals: A Methodological Exploration of Crossmodality.

This methodological study aims at exploring several extensions of physiological synchrony. As yet, synchrony is commonly analyzed within the same physiological modality and between different people, whereas in the present project we were specifically interested in crossmodal synchronies between people (interpersonal), as well as within the same person (intrapersonal). In recent years, interpersonal synchrony has received increased attention as a research field and a methodology in various disciplines where social interaction is pivotal. Synchrony is often computed on a time scale of a few seco

Association between timing of psychological intervention and reconstruction of worldview, life perspective, and values in adolescents with depression.

BACKGROUND: Timely access to structured psycho-educational intervention is crucial for cognitive-motivational recovery in adolescents with depression, a population in a critical developmental stage of consolidating core belief systems. Drawing upon the theory of educational timing, the initiation of these interventions may represent a critical window for reshaping worldview, life perspective, and values. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the association between intervention timing and the reconstruction of these existential constructs, thereby providing an empirical basis for optimizing p

[Physical activity and mental health in childhood and adolescence: a summary of the evidence from three national studies].

Young people are increasingly burdened by global crises. Physical activity (PA) is considered a key factor for mental health; however, for Germany, an integrated synthesis of population-based evidence is still lacking. The aim of this narrative overview is therefore to consolidate current findings on the association between PA and mental health. The analysis draws on three population-based studies conducted as module or follow-up studies in cooperation with the KiGGS study: the MoMo study (motor performance/physical activity), the BELLA and COPSY studies (mental health), and the COMO study (int

Comparative efficacy and safety of oral pharmacological and complementary interventions for premenstrual syndrome: a protocol for a systematic review and a network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects around 48% of women of reproductive age worldwide, interfering with psychological and physical well-being as well as functioning. A multitude of interventions exists for PMS, including oral pharmacological interventions, such as antidepressants, combined oral contraceptives, or alternative and complementary interventions. While the use of pharmacological interventions for PMS is linked to multiple side effects, evidence is limited for complementary interventions. Further, placebo effects are high in PMS intervention studies, affecting the estimat

Frequency, Perceived Effect and Coping Strategies for Frotteurism among Nursing Students at a University in Enugu, Nigeria: A Cross-sectional Descriptive Survey.

BACKGROUND: Frotteurism has been regarded as just a nuisance crime but studies have shown that victims experience months of distress and feelings of violation and disgust. As nursing undergraduates navigate from their residence to their points of clinical placement, they may be exposed to frotteuristic treatments from members of the public and this might cause them distress. As no similar data exists in literature, this study ascertained the frequency, perceived effect, and coping strategies for frotteurism among undergraduates at the University of Nigeria, Enugu. METHODS: A cross-sectional d

Strong Alliance, Weak Conclusions: Comment on Goodwin et al. (2026) "The Role of Therapeutic Alliance in Psilocybin Treatment for Treatment-Resistant Depression".

This commentary critically examines the interpretation and analytic choices in Goodwin and colleagues' recent analysis of therapeutic alliance in psilocybin treatment for treatment-resistant depression. While the authors conclude that alliance did not meaningfully contribute to treatment efficacy, we argue that this interpretation is not supported by the reported results, which are, in addition, shaped by methodological decisions that obscure relevant effects. By contextualizing the observed associations, clarifying the logic of mediation analysis, and pointing out methodological weaknesses, w

What About Psycholytic Therapy? A Historical Revisiting of Psychedelics Assisting Psychotherapy.

INTRODUCTION: The renewed clinical interest in psychedelics is often framed in ways that blur the distinction between psychotherapy and the psychedelic drug experience itself. Revisiting early research and clinical observations from the first wave of psychedelic science may help clarify how these processes were originally conceptualized. In the mid-20th century, LSD and other serotonergic psychedelics were understood as facilitators of psychotherapy rather than stand-alone treatments. Psycholytic therapy emphasized gradual therapeutic exploration over multiple sessions, whereas psychedelic the

Achievement goal orientations and digital literacy among primary and secondary school physical education teachers: the serial mediating roles of person-organization fit and positive coping.

INTRODUCTION: Teachers play a pivotal role in advancing educational digital transformation, and the digital literacy (DL) of primary and secondary school physical education (PE) teachers is crucial to the effective integration of digital technologies into physical education. This study examined the relationships between achievement goal orientations (AGOs) and digital literacy among primary and secondary school physical education teachers. It further investigated the specific mediating effects and serial mediating effects of person-organization fit (POF) and positive coping (PC) in these relat

Co-Designing the iCanBlend Model: A Blended Psychological Therapy Intervention for Treating Anxiety and Depression in the Context of Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Treatment uptake for depression and anxiety in psycho-oncology is low. Blended psychological therapy (BT), which combines self-guided digital content with clinician-delivered sessions, may improve treatment access and engagement. In Australia, no BT program exists in routine cancer care. OBJECTIVE: To co-design a BT intervention clinically appropriate for anxiety/depression treatment in cancer patients and investigate its potential acceptability and feasibility for implementation in psycho-oncology in Australia. METHOD: Qualitative, co-design focus groups were conducted via video

From Feeling to Form and Back: A Process-Differentiation Framework for Integrating Embodied, Symbolic, and Narrative Meaning.

Experiences can organize attention and action before they are readily explained, while articulation and later interpretation may alter what is noticed or felt. Psychology offers sophisticated but partly incompatible accounts of bodily affect, implicit experiencing, symbolization, and narrative meaning. This article develops a process-differentiation framework that compares four analytically distinct, potentially overlapping domains: embodied-affective orientation, implicit situational integration, symbolic articulation, and interpretive reconfiguration. Narrative configuration is treated as a

Beyond Dissemination: From Critical Science Literacy to Citizen Neuroscience.

Neuroscience increasingly informs education, mental health, and public policy, yet its real-world impact remains limited, with misunderstandings and neuromyths persisting. We argue that the societal impact of neuroscience communication depends less on the volume of information disseminated than on whether it cultivates critical science literacy, namely, the ability to evaluate how neuroscientific knowledge is generated, modeled, and constrained and to understand the inferential steps linking data to conclusions and their limits of generalization. In the context of neuroscience, we refer to thi

The potential of psychological intervention to decrease the risk of anxiety and depression in pulmonary fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Emotional distress in pulmonary fibrosis remains under-recognised and poorly addressed. This study assessed changes in anxiety and depressive symptoms following an individualised psychological intervention. METHODS: Single-centre, single-arm before-and-after observational study of an individualised psychological intervention delivered in routine ILD care, combining acceptance and commitment therapy, humanistic-existential techniques, and psychophysiological interventions. Anxiety and depressive symptoms were assessed with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) before and
