BackgroundHand dominance significantly influences motor skills, with the dominant hand excelling due to better neurological control. Limited knowledge of the non-dominant hand's role highlights the need for on its functional contributions.ObjectiveThis study aims to evaluate how effectively non-dominant hand performance can predict dominant hand performance in healthy individuals using the Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT), offering valuable implications for vocational assessment, rehabilitation planning, and return-to-work (RTW) decision-making.MethodsThis cross-sectional study include

PURPOSE: This review aimed to identify factors that acted as facilitators or barriers for returning to work (RTW) for people with chronic conditions following medical or vocational rehabilitation during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCOHost and Epistemonikos. Additional articles were identified via Google Scholar and citation tracking. All retrieved reports were screened, narratively reported and consolidated into a model aligned with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). This model illustrate

BACKGROUND: The experience of cognitive challenges due to mental health conditions can significantly affect a person's level of functioning and recovery including engagement in employment and other vocational pursuits. Cognitive remediation is an evidence-based treatment that has been demonstrated to improve cognitive and functional outcomes when embedded within a psychosocial rehabilitation program. Facilitated by occupational therapists, often with co-facilitators who are mental health workers and/or peer workers, Employ Your Mind is a vocational rehabilitation program incorporating cognitiv

PURPOSE: People with spinal cord injuries (SCI) face reduced access to work opportunities compared to individuals without disabilities. This study explored how people with SCI experience barriers and facilitators to work participation during return-to-work (RTW) and their quality of work participation in Spain's post-COVID-19 context.
METHODS: A qualitative phenomenological design was used. Eight women and nine men participated in three focus groups between February and June 2023. Data was video and audio recorded and analysed using a six-step Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis approach

BackgroundBarriers to the delivery of vocational rehabilitation have been reported as a lack of knowledge, skills and confidence in occupational therapists who deliver these services. A program aimed at overcoming these barriers was developed to provide training in the delivery of vocational rehabilitation services. The program includes three decision-making tools to facilitate not only knowledge translation but also practice changes. The tools are (1) Return-to-Work Decision Tree, (2) Performance-based Assessment Tool, (3) Job Match Tool.ObjectiveThe objective of the research was to obtain co

BACKGROUND: Depression is a significant contributor to the burden of disease globally and is often associated with reduced work productivity and permanent disability.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to identify factors associated with return to work among disability claimants with depression at one insurer in South Africa.
METHOD: A retrospective cohort study was conducted with 514 disability claims. Univariate tests for association (Chi-square and Fisher) were performed to test the significance of the association between the primary outcome (disability benefit terminated as a result of return

OBJECTIVES: The ROWTATE intervention helps people experiencing trauma to return to work (RTW) through vocational rehabilitation (VR) support from occupational therapists (OTs) and clinical psychologists (CPs). This study aims to explore and understand the acceptability of VR after traumatic injury for patients, therapists and employers.
DESIGN AND SETTING: Qualitative interviews in eight major trauma regions, UK.
PARTICIPANTS: Interviews were undertaken with a range of stakeholders-15 patients, 15 therapists and 6 employers. Data were analysed using the theoretical framework of acceptability

INTRODUCTION: Young adults experiencing psychosis want to work but most of them do not, even though success in employment and careers is possible. Occupational therapists are ideally placed to support young adults experiencing psychosis with employment, but evidence on contemporary occupational therapy practice in this area is lacking. This study asked occupational therapists who work with young people experiencing psychosis to share their perspectives about employment support.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESES: Evidence on the role of cognition in employment of people with severe mental illness (SMI) living in India and other developing countries is limited. This study examined the relationship between cognitive functioning and work in people with SMI living in urban and rural areas in India.
STUDY DESIGN: Cognition (evaluated with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment: MoCA) and vocational functioning were assessed in 340 persons with SMI (59% schizophrenia-schizoaffective) receiving private psychiatric outpatient treatment at two hospitals in western India.

BACKGROUND: A substantial number of COVID-19 recoverees are working-aged individuals, which makes return-towork (RTW) an essential part of rehabilitation. Many COVID-19 recoverees must deal with physical and mental symptoms of post-COVID conditions such as fatigue, dyspnea, difficulty concentrating, memory lapses, and anxiety. These symptoms coupled with often insufficient support from employers and the government can make the RTW process complicated. Although research related to RTW after COVID-19 has begun to emerge over the years, few primary studies have come out from developing countries.

BACKGROUND: Return to work (RTW) is a key milestone for breast cancer survivors, reflecting financial stability, personal recovery, and social reintegration. However, this transition is often hindered by persistent physical, cognitive, and emotional sequelae of treatment. In this single-center exploratory study within the RESTART project, we aimed to evaluate return-to-work outcomes and identify clinical, psychosocial, and occupational factors associated with sick leave and prolonged work absence in women treated with chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-s

Emotion-related school attendance challenges (ER-SAC) refer to school attendance difficulties rooted in emotional issues. This report examined the support process and outcomes of home-based occupational therapy in two junior high school students experiencing long-term absenteeism and social withdrawal. Both students exhibited emotional difficulties, including anxiety, interpersonal tension, and impulsivity, that disrupted daily routines, impaired self-care, and led to social avoidance. Occupational therapists initiated home visits by building trust, then gradually introduced strategies to rest

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death globally. Thrombocytosis, or increased platelet count, has been identified as a poor prognostic factor in various cancers, including CRC. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between preoperative and postoperative thrombocytosis and the survival rate of CRC patients.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study enrolled 160 CRC patients who underwent surgery. Clinical data on preoperative and postoperative platelet counts, as well as survival rates, were collected from medical records. Thrombocyto

PURPOSE: Return to work (RTW) after a major traumatic injury (MTI; traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multi-trauma orthopaedic injury) is an important rehabilitation outcome. This study aimed to explore the experience of early vocational rehabilitation (EVR) after MTI, and RTW barriers/facilitators.
METHODS: Adopting a qualitative design, 24 people with MTI were interviewed about participating in the Early Intervention Vocational Rehabilitation Service (EIVRS). Perceptions of EIVRS timing and RTW barriers/facilitators were explored. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysi

BACKGROUND: Returning to work (RTW) is an important goal for individuals sustaining traumatic injury (Multi-Trauma Orthopaedic [MTO], traumatic brain injury [TBI], and spinal cord injury [SCI]). Vocational rehabilitation is often unavailable or delayed, and controlled evaluation limited.
OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the impact of providing an Early Intervention Vocational Rehabilitation Service (EIVRS) following traumatic injury on employment outcomes, mental health and quality of life 1- and 2-years post-injury.
METHODS: A randomised parallel 2-group design was used to compare the EIVRS
