Computed Tomographic Assessment of Individual Paranasal Sinus Compartment and Nasal Conchal Bulla Involvement in 300 Cases of Equine Sinonasal Disease.

Background: Computed tomographic (CT) imaging has allowed new anatomical studies and detailed clinical imaging of the complex, overlapping equine sinonasal structures. Despite the widespread use of CT, no study has specifically identified which compartments are most commonly affected with sinus disorders. CT has also shown the presence of intercurrent, ipsilateral nasal disorders, especially infection of the nasal conchal bullae (NCB) in many cases of sinus disease, but the frequency of intercurrent NCB infections has not been reported. Objectives: To identify which sinus compartments are most

[Neuroendocrine paranasal tumour with symptoms from tooth in upper jaw].

In Denmark, the annual incidence of paranasal malignancies is approximately 60, often presenting with symptoms from growth into neighbouring structures. This case report is of a primary neuroendocrine paranasal tumour with distant metastases in an 81-year-old woman. Following a tooth extraction, the patient developed left side proptosis. A CT-scan showed a tumour of left ethmoidal sinus with local spreading to orbita, skull base, and contralateral ethmoid, and following scans visualised lymph node infiltration and multiple metastases. Paranasal malignancies can present with symptoms from teeth

Anatomy of the paranasal sinuses of the common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus Linnaeus, 1758) and radiographic positioning for diagnosis of these structures.

BACKGROUND: Callithrix jacchus, it is a species highly targeted by wild animal traffickers and, when apprehended, they need veterinary care. For safe therapeutic procedures, knowledge of anatomy is essential, as well as for diagnostic by imaging, good radiographic positioning is essential. METHODS: The anatomy of the paranasal sinuses and the radiographic projections was described using 10 carcasses of common marmosets. Radiographs were taken in two panoramic views of their head: profile and frontal-naso. For the anatomical study, paramedian and transverse macroscopic sections and microscopic

Epistaxis: the cause found beyond the nose.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignant disease that is often diagnosed at a metastatic stage. The head and neck represent up to 3% of the metastatic RCC, and the paranasal sinus area is one of the least involved sites. Here, we introduce the case of a 74-year-old female patient who presented with a history of traumatic nasal bleed. A cranial computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging showed a fronto-ethmoidal mass with pachymeningeal involvement. A nasal biopsy from the paranasal sinuses was taken. On histopathological examination, metastatic clear cell carcinoma was the main h

Influence of orbital morphology on proptosis reduction and ocular motility after decompression surgery in patients with Graves' orbitopathy.

PURPOSE: Orbital decompression surgery is performed in patients with Graves' orbitopathy to treat dysthyroid optical neuropathy (DON) and reduce disfiguring proptosis. The intended proptosis reduction can deviate from the postoperative result and changes of motility with consecutive diplopia can occur. We performed a retrospective study to identify anatomical factors in computed tomography (CT), which influence the surgical effect and postoperative ocular motility and diplopia. METHODS: Pre- and postoperative CT-scans of 125 eyes of 68 patients, who mainly underwent a balanced orbital decompr

[Dissecting Internal Carotid Aneurysm Causing Epistaxis:A Case Report].

We report a rare case of a ruptured dissecting internal carotid aneurysm caused epistaxis without a history of trauma or infection. An 89-year-old woman experienced epistaxis and suffered from hemorrhagic shock at her previous hospital. Head computed tomography(CT)images revealed a ruptured internal carotid aneurysm protruding into the Onodi cell, the most posterior ethmoidal sinus, which extends superolaterally to the sphenoid sinus. Cerebral angiography demonstrated a multilobular-shaped dissecting aneurysm with a maximal diameter of 6.7mm at the cavernous portion of the internal carotid art

Analysis of the development of human foetal nasal turbinates using CBCT imaging.

PURPOSE: The morphological structure of the nasal cavity (NC) is important for endoscopic surgical treatment. The location of nasal turbinates, including the superior turbinate (ST), middle turbinate (MT) and inferior turbinate (IT), are well presented during the formation of the human NC in cone beam CT (CBCT) images. There is a complex relationship between the nasal sinuses, the maxillary sinus (MS), ethmoidal sinus and sphenoid sinus, during formation of the NC structure at the morphological level. There is a need to clearly define the relationships of these nasal elements at the ossificati

Endoscopic-Assisted Removal of a Rare Mucocele Complicating From Alloplastic Medial Orbital Fracture Reconstruction.

Orbital wall fracture reconstruction is usually recommended to prevent subsequent functional and esthetic complications. Mucocele development following such injuries or its management is recognized but rare sequelae. When they occur, they represent a diagnostic and management dilemma. The authors described a patient with orbital and ethmoidal mucocele. A 62-year-old female patient presented with progressive left exophthalmos 1 year following titanium mesh reconstruction of a medial orbital wall fracture. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an encysted lesion encasin

Endoscopic Endonasal Repair of Isolated Medial Orbital Wall Fracture With Balloon Technique.

Endonasal endoscopic repair of medial orbital wall fractures is minimally invasive and benefits the patients. The authors describe the authors' modified balloon technique, which allows longer support of the orbital wall. From October 2010 through January 2016, the author repaired 9 isolated medial wall fractures by this method. Five patients were diagnosed as having enophthalmos of greater than 2 mm, and 6 patients had persistent diplopia before the operation. The herniated orbital contents that filled the anterior ethmoidal sinus were gently reduced with a 4-mm-diameter 0° sinus endoscope. Th
