Focused ultrasound-induced blood-brain barrier modulation for drug delivery in recurrent glioblastoma: A systematic review.

Background and objectives Glioblastoma is the most aggressive primary adult central nervous system of malignancy, with a median overall survival of 12-18 months. Recurrence is almost inevitable and carries poor outcomes, with median overall survival of 2-9 months and progression-free survival of 1.5-6 months. Treatment options are limited, as locoregional therapies apply to selected patients, and systemic treatments are restricted by the blood-brain barrier. Focused ultrasound has emerged as a noninvasive method to transiently and reversibly increase blood-brain barrier permeability. This stud

Subacute liver failure caused by immunotherapy in a patient with gastric cancer was improved after multimodal treatment with artificial liver combined with liver-protective drugs: a case report.

The emergence of the anti-tumor immunotherapy era has led to the widespread adoption of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in clinical practice. While ICIs exhibit substantial anti-tumor efficacy across a broad range of malignancies, they may also induce a diverse spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), involving multiple organ systems and, in severe instances, resulting in life-threatening complications. This report describes a rare case of severe immune-mediated hepatotoxicity (IMH) in a 76-year-old male patient with postoperative gastric cancer who was undergoing adjuvant therap

Acute hemodialysis for cancer-associated acute kidney injury: etiologies, indications, and outcomes from a 25-year single-center experience.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and life-threatening complication in cancer patients, often leading to treatment interruption and increased mortality. When AKI progresses to the stage requiring hemodialysis, the prognosis becomes particularly poor. This study aimed to evaluate the etiologies, dialysis indications, and outcomes of malignancy-associated AKI requiring emergency hemodialysis over 25 years. This retrospective study included adult patients with malignancies who underwent emergency hemodialysis for AKI at a tertiary referral center between January 2000 and March 2025. Patients

Bee venom pharmacopuncture for symptom relief in rheumatoid arthritis in a tamoxifen-treated breast cancer survivor who declined methotrexate: A case report.

BACKGROUND: The concurrent presentation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in breast cancer survivors complicates therapeutic decision-making, particularly during long-term adjuvant tamoxifen therapy. In this setting, escalation to standard immunosuppressive disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) may be delayed or declined because of concerns regarding cancer survivorship, polypharmacy, and treatment-related toxicity. CASE PRESENTATION: A postmenopausal Korean woman receiving tamoxifen 20 mg/day for right-breast ductal carcinoma in situ (pTisN0) developed symmetric polyarthritis involving t

Home-based high-intensity exercise training during neoadjuvant chemotherapy is associated with favorable chemotherapy outcomes and tumor microenvironment remodeling in breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: A growing number of studies show that physical exercise is feasible and safe for cancer patients and enhances various physical and cognitive capabilities, thus improving the quality of life and disease outcomes. The molecular mechanisms behind these effects are, however, poorly understood. Here, we present the results from the CancerBeat study, where breast cancer (BC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) were enrolled in a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program to investigate the effects of exercise on tumor biology and response to NAC. METHODS: Fifty BC pat

A randomized comparison of etoposide and cyclophosphamide for stem cell mobilization in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.

Successful autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) patients relies on the efficient mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells following induction therapy. While the efficacy of etoposide for stem cell mobilization has been demonstrated in numerous studies, a randomized comparison of the efficacy of cyclophosphamide versus etoposide has previously been lacking. This randomized, open-label, multicenter trial enrolled NDMM patients eligible for ASCT. The inclusion criteria were patients with a diagnosis of NDMM who required stem cell mobilization prio

Multiple myeloma patients treated with lenalidomide-based regimens frequently experience delayed peripheral blood stem cell collection: A controlled real-life study.

Autologous stem cell transplantation remains a milestone procedure for transplant-eligible MM patients who achieve hematological remission; however, some agents can have unpredictable effects on PBSC collection, such as lenalidomide, a second generation IMiD, that can potentially have negative impacts on stem cell apheresis. Previously published studies have shown controversial results and using post-hoc analysis. In our real-life study, we confirmed the strong negative impact of lenalidomide on PBSC collection by comparing lenalidomide-treated patients with a control cohort of thalidomide-tre

Challenges in the measurement and valuation of oncological treatments in Spain: recommendations and call to action.

BACKGROUND: The evaluation of innovative oncology medicines presents significant challenges related to the selection of appropriate clinical endpoints and the sufficiency of evidence, particularly in therapeutic areas, such as immunotherapies, targeted treatments, single-arm trials, and tumor-agnostic therapies. In these contexts, the added value of new treatments is often not adequately captured by traditional clinical trial endpoints, such as overall survival (OS), which remains the gold standard in oncology assessment. This article aims to analyze the main sources of uncertainty in the valu

Refractory Ulcerated Infantile Hemangioma Successfully Treated With Bleomycin Sclerotherapy: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Infantile hemangiomas (IH) are the most common benign vascular tumors in infants. While most of these lesions undergo spontaneous involution or respond favorably to propranolol, some cases present with early ulceration, aggressive progression, or resistance to standard therapy. Managing such complex cases remains challenging and requires individualized, multidisciplinary strategies and timely escalation to alternative modalities. Here, we report a medically refractory case of ulcerated infantile hemangioma and highlight the role of bleomycin sclerotherapy as a rescue therapy option.
