Effect of Immediate Dentin Sealing on the Bond Strength of Resin Cement to Diabetic Dentin.

This in vitro study evaluated the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin cement to diabetic and non-diabetic dentin following immediate dentin sealing (IDS) or conventional bonding without IDS, under two cementation protocols: immediate cementation (IC) and one-week delayed cementation (DC) after provisionalization. From a biomimetic perspective, IDS represents a tissue-preserving adhesive approach aimed at maintaining a stable resin-dentin interface; however, systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus may alter the dentin substrate and affect adhesive performance. A total of 120 extracted huma

A conotoxin-derived peptide exerts anti-tumor effects in ovarian cancer associated with activation of JNK/JunB signaling.

The discovery of potent anticancer peptides (ACPs) represents a crucial avenue in current targeted tumor therapy. This study systematically evaluated the broad-spectrum antitumor potential of sPep2, a peptide derived from Conus venom. In vitro investigations demonstrated that sPep2 exhibited potent cytotoxic activity against cancer cells from diverse tissue origins. Notably, its efficacy against ovarian cancer cells was comparable to that of melittin, with a more favorable in vitro selectivity profile. Beyond direct cytotoxicity, sPep2 at sublethal concentrations significantly inhibited tumor

Acquired generalized lipodystrophy complicated by fulminant type 1 diabetes mellitus: a case report with review of literature and immunological insights.

Acquired generalized lipodystrophy (AGL) is a rare disorder characterized by progressive loss of subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue and severe metabolic disturbances, including diabetes mellitus (DM). Although AGL is typically associated with type 2 DM, clinical experience with patients affected by both AGL and Fulminant type 1 DM (FT1DM) remains limited. We report a case of a 50-year-old man with long-standing (4-year) FT1DM who developed AGL, with histopathological and immunological evaluation and long-term follow-up after metreleptin therapy. The patient presented with rapid deteriora

A Psychometric Comparison of Faculty-Authored and Large Language Model-Generated Multiple-Choice Questions in Endodontics.

Background and objective Designing high-quality multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in dental education is highly resource-intensive. While generative artificial intelligence (AI) offers a rapid, scalable solution for automated item generation, there is limited student-tested psychometric evidence comparing uncurated large language model (LLM) outputs with traditional faculty-authored items in advanced dental specialties like endodontics. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the psychometric properties, specifically the difficulty index, discrimination index, distractor effectiveness, and int

Comparative evaluation of germ cell-specific promoters identifies robust drivers of transgene expression during mouse spermatogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Cells or tissue-specific regulation of gene expression is a key approach for understanding gene function; hence, a robust cell- or tissue-specific promoter element is a prerequisite for any functional genomics study. The specificity and robustness of gene expression depend on transcription factors binding to the promoter region. To date, there is no comparative study to establish robust promoters for various stages of mammalian germ cell (GC)-specific gene expression. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this study, the promoter regions of different testicular germ cell-specific genes like Ldh

Comparative evaluation of single-artery cannulation with passive venous drainage versus traditional dual-cannula ex vivo lung perfusion in a rat model.

BACKGROUND: Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) has emerged as a critical technique for lung preservation and evaluation prior to transplantation. While conventional rat EVLP systems utilize closed-loop dual cannulation of pulmonary artery (PA) and vein, the effect of the simplified model using single PA cannulation with passive venous drainage is unknown. METHODS: We developed two EVLP models in rats: a semi-closed circuit with PA-only cannulation and left atrial incision for passive venous drainage (SC-EVLP), and a closed circuit employing both arterial and venous cannulation (C-EVLP). Donor lung

Chlorin e6-loaded ethosomes for photodynamic wound therapy.

Improving and optimizing photosensitizers for photodynamic wound therapy remains an urgent task in this field. This study investigates the properties of an ethosomal chlorin e6 (Ce6) photosensitizer and its penetration into various tissues within a wound area. We obtained and analyzed spatial- and geometric configurations, absorption and fluorescence spectra of Ce6 in both molecular and ethosomal forms, alongside studying its penetration into skin and muscle tissue. The synthesized particles were spherical with convex surfaces. The average particle diameter in the samples was 47.7 nm. The abso

Reprogramming immunological debris clearance with astaxanthin-loaded engineered probiotic vesicles suppresses colorectal tumorigenesis.

Inefficient clearance of tumor-associated cellular debris sustains chronic inflammation and reinforces tumor-promoting immune niches in the colorectal cancer (CRC), yet strategies to selectively enhance macrophage-mediated cellular debris clearance remain largely unexplored. Here, we engineered a dual-targeted oral nanoplatform based on probiotic-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) for selective delivery of astaxanthin (AXT-EVs) to tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in inflamed colonic tissues. Following oral administration, AXT-EVs preferentially accumulated within TAMs and induced function

Panvascular aging: The pioneer organ hypothesis, research models and future directions.

Traditional vascular aging research has predominantly focused on isolated pathologies in single vascular beds, which fails to explain the synchronized functional decline of multiple organ systems that defines organismal aging. While the panvascular aging paradigm has emerged as a transformative framework for understanding systemic aging, the field remains fragmented by inconsistent phenotypic definitions, arbitrary model selection, and a critical disconnect between basic mechanistic insights and clinical translation. Recent landmark investigations-including single-cell transcriptomic profiling

Integrative holo-omic data analysis predicts interactions across the host-microbiome axis.

Understanding the interplay between host organisms and their microbiomes is central to the development of sustainable food systems. However, high dimensionality and spurious associations remain major obstacles to extracting meaningful biological insight from multi-omic host-associated microbiome data; a challenge further exacerbated when "holo-omic" analyses across the host-microbiome boundary are considered. Here, we show that a computational method designed for multi-omic analysis in eukaryotes can be leveraged to integrate and analyze five layers of holo-omic data from porcine hosts and the

Gelation mechanisms, structure-property relationships, and wound management applications of self-gelling powders.

Traumatic blood loss is a key issue in emergency medicine and wound management. Developing materials that can both quickly inhibit bleeding and properly treat wounds is of great significance. Traditional hemostatic materials are widely used in clinical settings, but they still have limitations in terms of adaptability to irregular wounds, limited stability in wet environments, single functionality, and difficulty in balancing subsequent therapy. In recent years, self-gelling powders have attracted considerable interest owing to their translational advantages, including convenient storage, port

M2 Macrophage-Mimetic Metal-Organic Framework Nanozyme With Visible-Light-Driven Hydrogen Evolution for Uveitis Therapy.

Uveitis poses a severe threat to vision and represents a critical clinical challenge. Conventional therapeutic approaches often exhibit limited efficacy in controlling disease progression and lack efficient mechanisms for managing localized oxidative stress. Given that molecular hydrogen (H2) holds substantial promise for treating oxidative and inflammatory diseases via its selective antioxidant properties, we report a metal-organic framework (MOF) nanozyme-based hydrogen nanogenerator. This system integrates photocatalytic visible-light-triggered H2 generation with multi-enzyme-like antioxida

Survival, antioxidant enzyme activities, and bioaccumulation response in freshwater snail Radix plicatula (W. H. Benson, 1842) to arsenic.

Arsenic contamination threatens freshwater aquatic ecosystems; however, integrated studies of bioaccumulation and toxicological mechanisms in gastropods remain limited. This study assessed acute and chronic toxicity in Radix plicatula by integrating survival, antioxidant enzyme activity, and tissue bioaccumulation measurements. We exposed snails to three arsenic concentrations for 21 days. Survival declined dose- and time-dependently from 98.3% (controls) to 83.3% (high concentrations) by day 21. Antioxidant enzymes showed biphasic responses, catalase (CAT) peaked on day 7 and then declined, w

Asymmetric-Wall Nanoporous Polymer Capsules via AIEgen‑Assisted Assembly as High‑Performance Electrocatalytic Carriers.

Soft-templating through the co-assembly of surfactants and precursors is a powerful strategy for synthesizing ordered porous materials. However, the range of available precursors and materials is relatively limited, and the correlation between precursor structure and the resulting morphology remains largely unexplored. Herein, we design a water-soluble, ammonium-functionalized aggregation‑induced emission luminogen (AIEgen) that serves dual roles as a crosslinkable building block and an auxiliary fluorescence probe. Co‑assembled with Pluronic F127 in an emulsion, this system yields an asymmetr

From environmental perception to reproductive allocation: the microbiome-membrane-mitochondria axis in poultry.

Reproductive performance has traditionally been interpreted through the physiology of reproductive organs, endocrine regulation, and genetics. Although these approaches have substantially advanced poultry production, they do not fully explain why reproduction consistently reflects the overall physiological condition of the organism. This review proposes an integrative conceptual framework in which reproductive success emerges from the coordinated activity of the entire host-microbiome ecosystem, not from the reproductive system alone. We examine current evidence supporting the concept that the

[Research progress on cerebral hypoperfusion following revascularization for carotid artery stenotic disease].

In clinical practice, a subset of patients with severe carotid artery stenosis fails to achieve the expected improvement in cerebral perfusion despite successful carotid revascularization and restoration of arterial patency. In these patients, cerebral ischemic symptoms persist or even deteriorate, reflecting a mismatch between macrovascular recanalization and cerebral tissue perfusion. This phenomenon is referred to as cerebral hypoperfusion syndrome (CHypoS). The pathogenesis of CHypoS is likely multifactorial, involving unfavorable cerebrovascular anatomy, persistent hemodynamic impairment,

Bioenergetic Materials for Tissue Regeneration: Modulating Metabolism to Promote Cellular Anabolism.

Tissue regeneration is an energy-demanding process that requires adequate ATP production to support cellular proliferation, biosynthesis, and tissue remodeling. Under pathological and age-related conditions, bioenergetic deficits impair intrinsic regenerative capacity by disrupting mitochondrial function, redox homeostasis, and anabolic signaling. Although conventional scaffold- and cell-based bioengineering strategies have advanced regenerative medicine, they generally do not directly address the metabolic dysfunction that limits tissue repair. Recently, bioenergetic materials (BEMs) have eme
