Sixty-three penetrating keratoplasties were performed in 63 patients using donor corneas stored by 37 C organ culture incubation for an average of 13 days (range 2 to 35 days). No grafts failed before four weeks, except one which was stored at 4 C for 48 hours prior to transplantation, indicating that endothelial viability is maintained when proper storage conditions are maintained. Of 431 cadaver kidneys available for transplantation, 75 were discarded after a period of pulsatile perfusion. Kidneys were discarded because of poor flow, multiple arteries with segmental obstruction, prolonged warm ischemia time, perfusion pump malfunction, and lack of donor cells for cross-matching, among other reasons. Long term reversal of alloxan diabetes has been accomplished by intraperitoneal isotransplantation of enzymatically dispersed neonatal pancreas. In contrast, allotransplanted recipients showed only a transient recovery from the alloxan diabetes followed by a return to the diabetic state at the time of the homograft rejection. These data strongly suggest that the reversal of the diabetic state was a consequence of the transplanted islets. This conclusion is further supported by quantitative analysis of biopsied pancreases from successfully reversed recipients which reveals only 3% of the normal

Peripheral blood leukocytes from patients with confirmed pulmonary neoplasia were tested for cytotoxicity against cultured cells derived from lung tumours of various histological types, foetal and normal adult lung tissue and tumours arising in organs other than the lung. Allogeneic orthotopic tooth transplants in the rabbit appear to stimulate transplantation immunity reactions comparable to those encountered with the transplantation of other organs. Intact untreated teeth were shown to be as quantitatively immunogenic as skin grafts between unrelated animals. Histocompatibility matching of donor and recipient and removal of pulpal tissues were demonstrated to be effective means of ameliorating the immune response to allogeneic orthotopic tooth transplants in the rabbit.

Heterotopic hepatic transplantation was carried out in 31 pigs using three different methods of homograft revascularization. In one experimental group the host portal inflow was split between the homograft and native liver so that the graft was provided with intestinal-pancreatic effluent; the host liver with gastric-splenic venous blood. Antigen-binding receptors on T lymphocytes and IgG antibodies with the same antigen-binding specificity as the T-cell receptors display shared or identical idiotypes. Two cadaver kidneys were preserved by the perfusion method with AB cryoprecipitated plasma which contained antidonor lymphocytotoxic antibody.
