Direct Multimodel Dark Matter Search with Gravitational-Wave Interferometers Using Data from the First Part of the Fourth LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Observing Run.

We present a search of data from the first part of the fourth observing run of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA for three kinds of dark matter-dilatons (spin-0), dark photons (spin-1), and tensor bosons (spin-2)-using three independent methods, each extended to search for all three candidates. Each dark matter candidate could interact with different standard-model particles in the instruments, causing unique differential strains on the interferometers. While we do not find any evidence for a signal, we place the most stringent upper limits to date on the couplings of each dark matter model to the interferomet

Possible Solution to the Gallium Anomaly Moving beyond the Leptonic Wave-Function Factorization.

For over 30 years, a ∼20% deficit, now exceeding 5σ, has persisted between measured and predicted neutrino capture rates on ^{71}Ga, as observed in radioactive source experiments (namely GALLEX, SAGE, and more recently BEST) using ^{51}Cr and ^{37}Ar. This long-standing discrepancy, referred to as the gallium anomaly, has posed a significant challenge to our understanding of both experimental methods and theoretical predictions. In this Letter, we revisit the theoretical calculation of the neutrino capture cross section by moving beyond the standard treatment of the leptonic wave functions, re

Multilingual Disparities in Large Language Model-Based Symptom Detection for Global Disease Surveillance: Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Symptom detection is essential in global disease surveillance to detect potential outbreaks, as symptoms are the first observable signs of infection. To reflect real-time ground truth conditions during pandemics, social media has emerged as a valuable data source. Moreover, effective digital disease surveillance systems must operate across diverse linguistic settings, and large language models (LLMs) have been shown to perform inconsistently across languages, tending to have lower performance in low-resource languages. While multilingual approaches have been explored in various hea

An Analysis of Manuscript Trajectories Following Journal Editorial Decisions.

BACKGROUND: Manuscript rejection is inevitable in academic publishing. With rising submission volumes, pre-peer review rejection ("desk rejection") is increasingly used as a pragmatic filter to focus on papers more likely to be published. Temporal trends, geographic disparities, and post-rejection outcomes are essential to inform editorial practices, author expectations, and assess whether pre-peer review decisions are justified. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed all original research manuscripts submitted to Anesthesia & Analgesia (A&A) from January 2021 to December 2024. Outcomes were pr

Digital Order System Redesign in Emergency-to-Intensive Care Unit Admissions: Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Emergency-to-intensive care unit (ICU) admissions are high-stakes transitions in care, where delays or documentation errors can compromise patient safety and disrupt operational efficiency. Although digital order systems can support these workflows, traditional platforms often lack real-time traceability and structured input logic, leaving them vulnerable to duplicate submissions, lost orders, and misaligned ICU bed reservations. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to examine whether an updated digital order system was associated with differences in emergency-to-ICU admission workflows, in

The views on infant sleep questionnaire: A confirmatory factor analysis in an Australian context.

BACKGROUND: Parental beliefs about infant sleep shape caregiving practices, infant development, and parental wellbeing. The Views oN Infant Sleep (VNIS) questionnaire was designed to assess these beliefs across three domains: Closeness, Independence, and Night-Waking. This study aimed to validate the questionnaire for the first time in an Australian context, in a sample of 111 pregnant women. METHODS: Women completed an anonymous online questionnaire containing the 12-item VNIS. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted in MPlus, using a weighted least squares estimator to evaluate the propo

Prognostic significance of isolated left bundle branch block in patients presenting with chest pain without prior cardiometabolic disease.

BACKGROUND: Left bundle branch block (LBBB) is a cardiac abnormality frequently associated with structural heart disease and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. However, its prognostic significance in patients without prior cardiometabolic disease remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate cardiovascular outcomes in patients presenting with chest pain with versus without LBBB in the absence of prior cardiometabolic or structural heart disease. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using TriNetX. Adults presenting with chest pain were divided into two cohorts: patients with LBBB and pa

Clinical and demographic characteristics associated with residual symptom severity in remitted first-episode psychosis.

BACKGROUND: Although 40%-60% of patients with schizophrenia achieve symptomatic remission, residual symptoms often persist. Negative symptoms are associated with poorer functioning and quality of life. Determinants of residual symptom severity in remitted first-episode psychosis remain insufficiently understood, and identifying these factors may inform interventions to reduce burden. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from HAMLETT, a multicentre randomised controlled trial of remitted first-episode psychosis patients. The primary measure was the Positive and Negative

Class perceptions and fertility decision-making: How subjective class identity and mobility expectations shape fertility intentions and behavior.

BACKGROUND: China's fertility rate has dropped sharply despite policy relaxations, suggesting that subjective cognitive factors-beyond objective socioeconomic conditions-matter for reproductive decisions. However, the distinct roles of current class perception versus future mobility expectations remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study examines how subjective class perception and class mobility expectations differentially associate with fertility intentions, childbearing behaviors, and the intention-behavior gap, and explores mediating mechanisms. METHODS: Using CGSS2023 data (N = 6073, aged 18

Spectroscopic characterization and co-crystal structure of P450Blt reveal the molecular basis for biarylitide formation.

P450Blt is a cytochrome P450 enzyme (CYP) that forms crosslinked biarylitides by installing an intramolecular aromatic CN bond on a ribosomally synthesized pentapeptide. Closely related CYPs, such as the nitrating enzyme RufO, exhibit distinct catalytic selectivity on the same peptide scaffold. Although both P450Blt and RufO have been characterized, direct mechanistic comparison has been limited by the lack of spectroscopic studies of P450Blt and differences in their crystallization methods. Here, we performed spectroscopic and structural characterization of P450Blt to establish a framework fo

The prognostic value of HER2 in gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma - a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: HER2 amplification and overexpression are predictive markers for HER2-targeted therapies in gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma. However, unlike in breast cancer, the prognostic significance of HER2 status in this disease remains uncertain, with conflicting evidence across studies. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies reporting hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS) based on HER2 status, identified through PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Eligible studies included HER2-positive and HER2-negative patients with gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma,

Understanding clinician retention: Insights from a national anesthesia practice group.

BACKGROUND: Anesthesia workforce shortages are intensifying, with facility-reported staffing shortages reaching 78% by 2023. Retention is thus critical for anesthesia practices, yet its drivers remain poorly characterized across career stages and clinician types. We hypothesized that retention would be associated with traditional satisfiers: higher compensation, lighter workload, shorter (daytime) hours, and desirable case mix. We tested this hypothesis using data from a large national anesthesia practice. METHODS: We conducted a database cohort analysis of 6273 anesthesia clinicians (2935 ph

EARLY-ALS: a multicentre study on prodromal amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

BACKGROUND: Neurodegenerative diseases often feature a prolonged phase of subtle changes preceding diagnosis. In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), defining this prodromal period is critical for identifying early disease features and intervention windows. METHODS: In this case-control study, 475 patients with ALS and 285 controls from 20 centres in Germany and Switzerland completed a digital questionnaire on prodromal symptoms and health-related factors. Logistic regression included subgroup analyses by sex and clinical strata. FINDINGS: Patients with ALS reported a higher burden of prodro

Preoperative depressive symptoms as an independent prognostic factor for long-term survival after curative-intent treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Depression is common in cancer patients and may affect prognosis, yet its impact on long-term outcomes after curative-intent treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is underexplored. We prospectively examined whether preoperative depressive symptoms (Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale score ≥ 53) independently predict poorer overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in HCC patients undergoing curative-intent treatment. METHODS: A total of 213 pathologically confirmed HCC patients who underwent resection or ablation at Xiangya Hospital (2019) were enrolled. Depressi

Affective nonverbal vocalizations and implications for cochlear implants: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Nonverbal vocalizations (NVVs) like laughs, cries and screams are powerful carriers of affective meaning and trigger rapid attentional responses. Evidence linking specific acoustic cues of adult NVVs to affective perception remains fragmented across heterogeneous studies in typically-hearing listeners, and largely absent in cochlear‑implant users. OBJECTIVE: To map empirical evidence linking acoustic cues of adult NVVs to emotion and salience perception in typically‑hearing listeners, and to determine whether comparable evidence exists for cochlear implant users. METHODS: Followi
