There is a lack of agreement as to the significance of agglutination test results in cholera, and recent epidemics of "classic" Vibrio comma and El Tor infections have provided an opportunity to compare this test with two other serological procedures recently introduced in cholera work. These are determination of the circulating antitoxin expressed as the lethal toxin neutralizing power of a serum, and determination of the haemolysin neutralizing power through serial test-tube dilutions.Applying these tests to sera from cholera patients, convalescents, carriers and contacts and from immunized

The relationship between the fever of acute infection and that following injection of bacterial pyrogen was studied by administering pyrogens to animals convalescent from acute infections. Rabbits surviving dermal pneumococcal infections or peritonitis due to Escherichia coli were given intravenous injections of typhoid or E. coli vaccine. They showed no evidence of tolerance to the fever-promoting effect of these pyrogenic materials. Tolerance did develop in infected animals given daily pyrogen injections during the course of the infection. Certain previous observations upon the ability of ra

Experimental pneumococcal pneumonia was produced in albino rats by intrabronchial inoculation of Type I pneumococci suspended in mucin. The resulting pneumonia was uniformly fatal in untreated rats. Eighty per cent of the animals so infected and treated with sulfonamide drugs 6 hours after inoculation survived the pneumonia. At the end of 1 week the surviving animals were sacrificed, and examination of the lungs showed sharply demarcated localized pulmonary lesions containing no pneumococci. Microscopic study of the lungs of treated animals sacrificed at 6, 18, 42, 66, 96, and 168 hours after

1. Spirochetes of relapsing fever have been separated from the blood of heavily infected mice and rats by hemolysing with saponin, followed by repeated washing of the spirochetal suspension with physiological saline. 2. Spirochetes obtained in this manner appear to have broad antigenic specificity. Antigens of this type fixed complement in the presence of serum obtained from man or animals infected with one or other of the recognized strains or "species" of relapsing fever spirochetes. Macroscopic agglutination of the antigens likewise was observed with sera from the same sources. 3. Positive
