Exploring Women's Knowledge of Nutrition and Bone Health: A Preventive Focus on Osteoporosis.

Background Osteoporosis is a chronic skeletal disorder characterized by decreased bone mineral density and deterioration of bone microarchitecture, resulting in increased bone fragility and fracture risk. Among the modifiable risk factors, diet and lifestyle play a critical role in both the prevention and progression of osteoporosis. Perimenopausal women are particularly susceptible to bone loss due to hormonal changes, making it imperative to evaluate their awareness of dietary influences on bone health. This study aimed to assess the level of awareness regarding osteoporosis-related dietary

Use of Digital and Telemedicine Tools for Postoperative Pain Management at Home: A Scoping Review of Health Professionals' Roles and Clinical Outcomes.

Postoperative pain management after hospital discharge remains one of the main clinical challenges. The use of digital and telemedicine tools offers new opportunities for the continuous monitoring of, and timely intervention in, patients discharged and followed at home. This scoping review, conducted according to the PRISMA-ScR checklist and the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, analyzed 26 studies selected through a search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Inclusion criteria comprised studies published between 2015 and 2025 that involved patients discharged home after surger

Factors associated with adolescent pregnancy in Zambia: a secondary data analysis of the 2018 Zambia demographic and health survey.

BACKGROUND: Globally, complications from pregnancy and childbirth are the leading causes of death among adolescent girls aged 15-19 years. In Zambia, nearly three in ten adolescent girls have begun childbearing, with rates as high as 35% in rural areas. These high rates contribute to adverse maternal and newborn outcomes, perpetuating intergenerational cycles of poverty and limiting opportunities for education and economic empowerment among young mothers. This study explored factors associated with adolescent pregnancy in Zambia. METHODS: This cross-sectional study utilized data from the 2018

Research protocol for BootStRaP assessment phase: A nine-nation study on boosting societal adaptation and mental health in a rapidly digitalising, post-pandemic Europe.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing global concern about the harms associated with problematic usage of the internet (PUI) affecting young people. Various risk factors have been proposed, but there is a scarcity of reliable evidence on the extent of the problem, who is most at risk of developing PUI and why, and how best to tackle it. OBJECTIVES: BootStRaP (ISRCTN59576080) is a five-year multinational research programme designed to boost young people's health and resilience by determining, through prospective longitudinal assessment, the risk factors associated with PUI and its health economic im

Patterns and predictors of 12-month treatment of common anxiety, mood, and substance use disorders in the World Mental Health (WMH) surveys: treatment in the context of perceived need.

BACKGROUND: Data from the World Mental Health (WMH) surveys on the coverage cascade has underscored the importance of perceived need for seeking treatment of mental disorders. However, little research has focused on treatment contact after adjusting for perceived need. We do so here in analysis of WMH data. METHODS: The WMH data considered here come from 25 community surveys implemented between 2001 and 2019 across 21 countries. n = 12,508 of the n = 117,739 respondents in these surveys aged 18 and older met criteria for one or more 12-month DSM-IV anxiety, mood, or substance use disorders as

Problems with Classifying Type 3 Uterine Fibroids as Submucous in the 2018 FIGO Revisions.

In sarcoidosis, a T helper 1 (Th1) response is an essential event and the up-regulation of interleukin-12 (IL-12) has been detected in affected disease sites. In order to investigate the clinical usefulness of circulating IL-12, we measured the serum concentrations of IL-12 by ELISA and performed immunohistochemistry using specific MoAbs for IL-12 in the lungs and scalene lymph nodes of patients with sarcoidosis. The serum concentration of IL-12 p40 was detectable in all 45 patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis and 18 normal controls, whereas that of IL-12 p70 was undetectable. The serum concent

Hepatitis B vaccination status and associated factors among people living with HIV in Gulu, Uganda: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Hepatitis B vaccination is highly recommended among people with HIV (PWH) because they have a poor prognosis when infected with Hepatitis B virus (HBV). Among PWH, HBV infection s are more likely to progress to chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. It is therefore important that PWH are vaccinated against HBV. However, in Uganda, hepatitis B vaccination among PWH is not standard practice indicating that its uptake may be minimal. We aimed to determine the hepatitis B vaccination status among PWH in Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, Uganda and the associated factors. METHODS: A c

Exploring the impact of ADIPOQ gene variants on plasma adiponectin levels and oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy in South Indian population: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Warfarin is commonly involved in drug-related hospital admissions. The drug is most commonly prescribed to elderly patients in whom polypharmacy is common and, when administered in combination with other drugs such as NSAIDs, aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) or macrolide antibacterials, is associated with increased bleeding risk. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of prescriptions that might give rise to clinically relevant drug-drug interactions in a warfarinized population. METHODS: Primary care prescribing of warfarin and potentially interacting

PLAIN ENGLISH SUMMARY: Parents of children with physical disabilities do a lot to support their child in daily life. In doing this they are faced with many challenges. These parents have a wide range of unmet needs, especially for information, on different topics. It is sometimes hard for them to get the right information at the right moment, and to ask the right questions to physicians and other healthcare professionals. In order to develop a digital tool to help parents formulate questions and find information, we thought it would be crucial to work together in a process of co-creation with

What predicts health facility delivery among women? analysis from the 2021 Madagascar Demographic and Health Survey.

BACKGROUND: One of the pivotal determinants of maternal and neonatal health outcomes hinges on the choice of place of delivery. However, the decision to give birth within the confines of a health facility is shaped by a complex interplay of sociodemographic, economic, cultural, and healthcare system-related factors. This study examined the predictors of health facility delivery among women in Madagascar. METHODS: We used data from the 2021 Madagascar Demographic and Health Survey. A total of 9,315 women who had a health facility delivery or delivered elsewhere for the most recent live birth p

Social Media Use in Dermatology in Turkey: Challenges and Tips for Patient Health.

Social media has established its place in our daily lives, especially with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has become the leading source of information for dermatological literacy on various topics, ranging from skin diseases to everyday skincare and cosmetic purposes in the present digital era. Accumulated evidence indicates that accurate medical content constitutes only a tiny fraction of the exponentially growing dermatological information on digital platforms, highlighting an unmet patient need for access to evidence-based information on social media. However, there have been no re

A concept for international societally relevant microbiology education and microbiology knowledge promulgation in society.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Microbes are all pervasive in their distribution and influence on the functioning and well-being of humans, life in general and the planet. Microbially-based technologies contribute hugely to the supply of important goods and services we depend upon, such as the provision of food, medicines and clean water. They also offer mechanisms and strategies to mitigate and solve a wide range of problems and crises facing humanity at all levels, including those encapsulated in the sustainable development goals (SDGs) formulated by the United Nations. For example, microbial technologie

School performance in children with prenatal drug exposure and out-of-home care in NSW, Australia: a retrospective population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal drug exposure (PDE) is a global public health problem that is strongly associated with the need for child protection services, including placement into out-of-home care (OOHC). We aimed to assess school outcomes for children with PDE (both with and without neonatal abstinence syndrome [NAS]) and the association of school performance with OOHC. METHODS: Using linked population health, OOHC, and school test data, we compared results on the Australian standardised curriculum-based test, the National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), for children with PDE who

Ethnocultural empathy development of future language teachers through digital multiliteracy resources for low-literacy adult migrants.

UNLABELLED: The increasingly digital and multicultural 21st-century society requires future teachers to be prepared for the changes and challenges they may encounter. Not only language and digital competences, but critical-thinking and problem-solving skills are needed. Moreover, well developed socio-affective abilities, empathy among them, are also key when dealing with others. This is even more relevant when teachers are to work with a non-mainstream population, such as adult migrants with low literacy levels, and to design student-centered curricula or activities. Empathy is a multifaceted

A Game-Based Tool for Reducing Jargon Use by Medical Trainees.

INTRODUCTION: Physicians can be unaware that many US adults have intermediate or lower health literacy. Avoiding medical jargon in patient communication can improve poor outcomes associated with lower health literacy, but physicians may struggle to do so as health literacy education is neither standardized nor universal at US allopathic medical schools. As with other skills-based proficiencies in medical education, repeat exposure and active learning help build competency. Medical students developed the Patient Communication Challenge (PCC), an adaptation of the Hasbro game Taboo, to facilitat
