Exploring the Impact of Home-Based Support on Informal Caregivers: A Qualitative Study in Hyderabad, Pakistan.

Background An aging population in Pakistan is relying more and more on informal caregivers as organized elder care systems are hard to come by. In cities such as Hyderabad, caregiving is largely a family-oriented responsibility, and it is deeply rooted in culture and religion. Women disproportionately shoulder the burden of caregiving and experience emotional, physical, and financial distress as a result. While the global literature acknowledges caregiving as fundamental to health systems, there is scant research evidence on the experiences of caregivers in low-resource South Asian settings. T

Health and well-being in metal musicians: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Elite musicians face high risks of performance-related health problems, yet research mainly targets classical players. Metal musicians, despite unique demands (fast tempos, headbanging, extreme vocal techniques) remain under-investigated, highlighting urgent need for broader, inclusive studies on musicians' health. METHODS: This scoping review, guided by methodological recommendations, maps existing evidence on metal musicians' health worldwide. It identifies gaps across physical, and mental well-being, using systematic searches, inclusion criteria, and structured data analysis.

Identifying facilitators and barriers to using trauma-informed care at a level 1 trauma center.

Millions of individuals sustain traumatic injuries each year, yet the emotional impact of hospitalization and acute medical care remains understudied. Trauma-informed care (TIC) offers a framework for reducing retraumatization and supporting both patients and providers, but little is known about how TIC is understood or applied in trauma centers. This qualitative study used a human-centered design approach to examine healthcare workers' experiences, perceptions, and training needs related to TIC within a Level 1 trauma center to inform development of a training on TIC. This study employed a qu

Exercise addiction: A review and evaluation of current research and theory.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: While regular physical activity provides many health benefits, exercise can cause more harm than good when done excessively to the point where a person loses control. This condition has been called various names, but the most accurate term is 'exercise addiction' (EA) because it reflects both compulsive behavior and dependence. EA is classified as a non-substance-related addictive disorder, or behavioral addiction, and has been the subject of research for over fifty years. However, it is not officially recognized in major diagnostic systems, mainly due to significant conce

Mental health of caregivers for people with dementia and cerebral palsy as a key determinant of caregiver burden: a multivariable analysis.

BACKGROUND: Informal caregiving plays a vital role in supporting dependent individuals; however, prolonged caregiving is associated with significant physical and psychological strain. Understanding factors associated with caregiver burden is essential for designing effective interventions to protect caregiver health and sustain long-term care systems. OBJECTIVE: To examine the associations between psychological, physical, and contextual factors on caregiver burden and to identify variables independently associated with caregiver burden. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 73

Circadian preference and quality of life in adults with autism spectrum disorder: a Brazilian cross-sectional self-reported survey.

PURPOSE: Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often experience significant challenges that affect their quality of life (QoL), including mental health issues, socioeconomic strain, and circadian rhythm disruptions. Chronotype, or an individual’s biological preference for sleep-wake patterns, has been associated with well-being in neurotypical populations but remains underexplored in adults with ASD. This study aimed to investigate the association between chronotype and perceived QoL in Brazilian adults with ASD. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional, web-based survey as part of the SOL

The Familial Burden: Recognizing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Through Proxy Family Members.

The study highlights six cases in which obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in a primary patient was recognized through distress or behavioral changes in a family member. Common themes included compulsive behaviors that led to physical and emotional strain on relatives, leading them to seek medical attention. This underscores the indirect impact of OCD on family members, emphasizing the bio-psycho-social interplay in symptom manifestation and caregiving dynamics. Familial accommodation often perpetuates compulsions, as seen in caregivers assuming proxy roles. Genetic predisposition, cognitive

Psychosocial concerns in burn survivors and their families: A narrative review.

Burn injuries result in profound and enduring consequences that extend well beyond the initial physical trauma. Although survival rates have significantly improved in recent decades, particularly in high-income countries, many survivors continue to experience complex psychological and social challenges that persist long after discharge from hospital care. This review outlines the current understanding of the psychological and social impacts of burn injuries and highlights key strategies to support survivors and their families through each stage of recovery. Common psychological concerns includ

Ergonomics of 3D-Exoscope Versus the Operating Microscope in Otologic Surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Surgeons experience one of the highest rates of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, with otologists identified as a high-risk specialty. This is commonly attributed to the frequent use of the operating microscope, as it often necessitates prolonged, ergonomically unfavourable, awkward postures. Robotic 3D-exoscopes have emerged as a potential tool in improving surgical ergonomics without compromising on visualisation. This study compares the ergonomic risk associated with both devices. METHODS: A prospective, single centre, ergonomic analysis was conducted on otolaryngologis

Psychometric evaluation of novel hyperphagia questionnaires in a real-world setting for patients with a rare MC4R pathway disease.

BACKGROUND: There are no validated measures to assess hyperphagia associated with rare MC4R pathway diseases, such as Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS). Symptoms of Hyperphagia© (SoH) and Impacts of Hyperphagia© (IoH) are novel questionnaires designed to assess signs and symptoms of hyperphagia and their impacts on patients and caregivers. We evaluated the psychometric performance of the caregiver-versions of the SoH: Caregiver (Observer-reported) and IoH: Caregiver (Observer-reported and Self-reported subscales). RESULTS: Reliability and validity were evaluated using data from a multi-country cros

Gender Differences in Caregiver Burden, Social Support, and Coping Strategies Among Caregivers of Patients With Epilepsy in a Tribal Region of India: A Cross-Sectional Study.

This study examined whether caregivers of male or female patients with epilepsy differ in perceived burden, social support, and coping mechanisms. In a cross-sectional design conducted at a tertiary neuropsychiatric hospital, 60 caregivers (30 per group) completed the Family Burden Interview Schedule (FBIS), the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ), and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ). Caregivers of female patients reported greater financial strain and more pronounced impacts on mental and physical health, yet they also perceived higher levels of social support. In contrast, caregivers of

Stereotaxic Delivery of M1000 Prions to the Hippocampus Induces Related Behavioural and Cognitive Changes Consistent with Acute Neurotoxic Effects.

Prion diseases are fatal neurodegenerative disorders characterised by the misfolding of the normal prion protein (PrPc) into a pathogenic isoform (PrPSc), with the latter constituting the predominant or possibly only component of infectious prions. While ongoing PrPSc propagation and accumulation appear central pathophysiological features underpinning disease progression, whether PrPSc harbours direct acute neurotoxic effects in vivo has been under-investigated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the hypothesis that PrPSc in sufficient quantity can induce acute neurotoxicity in vulnerable

Physician burnout in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: prevalence and associated factors among resident doctors and consultants in Delta State, Nigeria.

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by long-standing, poorly managed workplace stress. Resident doctors (RDs) and consultants provide specialized medical care, and the strain of their job predisposes them to the three domains of burnout: Emotional Exhaustion (EE), Depersonalization (DP), and diminished Personal Accomplishment (PA). Globally, this public health crisis worsened with the overwhelming effect of COVID-19 on health systems. This study assessed the prevalence and associated factors of burnout among RDs and Consultants in tertiary hospitals in Delta

Parents' experiences of the financial and employment impacts of their child receiving end-of-life care: a national qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Bereaved parents are at higher risk of poor mental and physical health outcomes than people bereaved under other circumstances. These challenges are exacerbated by the continued effects on parents' working lives and the financial strain of a child receiving end-of-life care. There has been very little recent research of parents' experiences of these impacts. Analysis of data from the second workstream of a national research programme on end-of-life care for infants, children and young people (ENHANCE) aimed to understand parents' experiences of the impact on their finances and work

Vulnerability profiles of workers and the relation with burnout symptoms: results from the Netherlands working conditions survey.

INTRODUCTION: Unfavorable working conditions may place workers in a vulnerable position in the labour market, but studies on the clustering of these factors and their relation to burnout symptoms are lacking. This study aims to identify subgroups of workers in potentially vulnerable positions in the labour market and examine whether burnout symptoms differ across the established subgroups. METHODS: This study utilizes cross-sectional data from 2019 of the Netherlands Working Conditions Survey (n = 55,283). Working conditions included employment contracts, working hours, multiple jobs, tenure,
