Occupational exposure to noise and depression incidence: a nationwide cohort study of workers in Denmark, 2000-2017.

OBJECTIVES: Research on the association between occupational noise and incident depression is limited. We investigated whether long-term occupational noise was associated with depression risk, both independently and in combination with other stress-related factors. METHODS: In a Danish nationwide register-based cohort of 2 424 542 workers aged 25-64 years, individual-level occupational histories were linked to noise exposure using a job exposure matrix. Noise exposure was aggregated as 5-year running means. During follow-up from 2000 to 2017, 142 370 women and 119 900 men developed incident d

Occupational exposure to diesel engine exhaust and first-time acute myocardial infarction: a nationwide register-based cohort study 1976-2018.

AIMS: Exposure to air pollution including diesel engine exhaust (DEE) is associated with increased risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Few studies have investigated the risk of AMI according to occupational exposure to DEE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between occupational exposure to DEE and the risk of first-time AMI. METHODS AND RESULTS: The study was a register-based cohort study of the Danish working population and included 903 415 individuals aged 35-50 years in 1995. Exposure estimates of DEE were assigned by linking a quantitative DEE job exposure matri

Metabolic syndrome risk factors among mill workers exposed to noise and respirable dust.

This 15-year prospective cohort study aimed to examine the impact of occupational exposure to noise and respirable flour dust on the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components among 379 flour mill workers in Iran. The cohort was divided into an exposed group (n = 232), comprising workers with chronic exposure to noise and dust, and a non-exposed group (n = 147), including administrative and supervisory staff with minimal exposure. Annual measurements of noise and dust followed NIOSH guidelines, and cumulative exposures were calculated over time. MetS and its components were asse

[Occupational noise-induced hearing loss among dental personnel a scoping review].

Dental personnel are exposed to noise-producing equipment, and there is evidence that this occupational exposure to noise puts dental personnel at an increased risk of developing hearing loss (noise-induced hearing loss, NIHL). A literature search identified 28 scientific publications on NIHL among dental personnel. Twenty-three studies used objective parameters for NIHL, three used subjective parameters, and two studies used a combination of objective and subjective parameters. Of the 12 studies with objective measurements that also examined a control group, eight reported significantly highe

The effect of occupational exposure to noise and chemical agents on hearing abilities.

Exposure to loud noise or chemical agents may cause hearing disorders such as tinnitus and recruitment, known as an increase in the perception of loudness in addition to hearing loss. Our study aims to evaluate the hearing abilities of hairdressers exposed to noise and chemical agents in the working environment. The study included one hundred hairdressers and one hundred participants who do not work as hairdressers or are nonworkers. The participants' demographic characteristics, working conditions, and auditory complaints were questioned, and each participant completed the Speech, Spatial, an

Occupational noise and hypertension in Southern Chinese workers: a large occupational population-based study.

INTRODUCTION: An increasing number of original studies suggested that occupational noise exposure might be associated with the risk of hypertension, but the results remain inconsistent and inconclusive. In addition, the attributable fraction (AF) of occupational noise exposure has not been well quantified. We aimed to conduct a large-scale occupational population-based study to comprehensively investigate the relationship between occupational noise exposure and blood pressure and different hypertension subtypes and to estimate the AF for hypertension burden attributable to occupational noise e

Prevalence and associated factors of noise-induced hearing loss among workers in Bishoftu Central Air Base of Ethiopia.

Excessive occupational exposure to noise results in a well-recognized occupational hearing loss which is prevalent in many workplaces and now it is taken as a global problem. Therefore, this study aims to assess the prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss and associated factors among workers in the Bishoftu Central Air Base in Ethiopia. An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 260 central air base workers through face-to-face interviews, an environment noise survey, and an audiometric test for data collection. Data were entered by Epi-data version 3.1 and SPSS was used

Relationship Between Occupational Exposure to Noise and Vibrations and Vertigo: A Prospective Case-Control Study.

Background/Objectives: It is known that balance disorders involve occupational hazards. However, the inverse relationship (between certain occupations and an increased incidence of vertigo or dizziness) has been scarcely studied. The objective of this work was to analyze the occupation of a group of patients with vertigo compared to the economically active general population and to evaluate the prevalence of occupational noise and/or vibration exposure in both groups. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional, observational, case-control study was carried out, including 393 patients (193: Meniere

Occupational Risk Factors for Stroke: A Comprehensive Review.

For primary prevention, it is important for public health and clinical medicine to identify and characterize modifiable risk factors of stroke. In existing literature, the impact of occupational variables on ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke has been extensively studied. This review summarizes the available data on the significance of occupational variables in stroke. The results of this review suggest that there is sufficient evidence for the relationship between increased risk of stroke and job stress, working in extreme temperatures, long working hours, and/or shift work. The association betw

Salivary cortisone as potential predictor of occupational exposure to noise and related stress.

Salivary cortisone strongly correlates with serum cortisol, and since it is less invasive to measure salivary cortisone than serum cortisol and easier than to measure cortisol in saliva, as its concentrations are much lower, we wanted to compare salivary cortisone and cortisol levels as markers of noise-induced stress reaction. The study included 104 participants aged 19-30 years, 50 of whom were exposed to occupational noise ≥85 dB(A) and 54 non-exposed, control students. All participants took samples of their saliva with Salivette® Cortisol synthetic swabs on three consecutive working days f
