Prevalence of oral health problems in a Norwegian older adult population: The HUNT Study.

BACKGROUND: Studies show that oral health problems are common among older adults. However, population estimates of oral health problems are largely restricted to individual subgroups. Thus, we aimed to estimate the prevalence of oral health problems in an older adult population comprised of both community dwellers and nursing home residents, and to assess differences between sexes, age groups, and these living situations. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used data from HUNT4 Trondheim 70 + , a part of the fourth Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT4), Norway. Oral health was assessed using the Rev

Navigating Conviviality and Co-Viviality: Persons With Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Health Problems' Home Making in Residential Care.

BACKGROUND: Recent numbers of the share of residential services in the Flemish care reveal that implementing personal budgets did not ignite a large-scale departure from residential care and that the use of full-time residential care even increased. Despite incentives to leave residential care, people with intellectual disabilities and mental health problems (PIDMHP) in particular continue to keep living there (or choose to keep living there). Gaining insight into the possibilities PIDMHP living in residential care have for making a home is of importance in the ever-continuing inquiry and disc

Insights Into Associations Between Oral and General Health Outcomes of Nursing Home Residents Based on InterRAI Data: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Oral health of nursing home residents is generally poor, largely due to age-related conditions that increase their vulnerability and make them more dependent on others for oral care. Poor oral health can significantly impact general health and well-being, highlighting the important role of caregivers in preventing, detecting, and addressing residents' oral health problems in time. The interRAI Suite of instruments, widely used for comprehensive health assessments, offers the opportunity for nondental caregivers to assess oral health as part of general health and well-being and faci

Giving and receiving help in three contexts as predictors of alcohol outcomes in a longitudinal study of sober living house residents.

Although peer support is central to the social model approach emphasized in sober living houses (SLHs), no longitudinal studies have examined helping among SLH residents. This longitudinal study examined benefits of helping in three contexts among SLH residents. Data were from 205 participants entering 28 SLHs across 2021-2023. Interviews were at baseline and 1, 2, 3, and 6 months; focal variables were assessed at all interviews using a past-30-day timeframe. Predictors were help given to and received from SLH residents, 12-step attendees, and family/friends; outcomes included drinking days an

Modelling the relationship between industrial air pollution and perceived health effects of households in the three most air-polluted cities of Pakistan.

Industrialization contributes to economic growth; however, its negative impacts cannot be overlooked. The emission of toxic pollutants into the atmosphere by industries poses a serious threat to both environmental and human health. We conducted a field study in the top three most polluted cities of Pakistan to quantify the impacts of industrial air pollution on the perceived health effects of households. We also analyzed the factors influencing households' adoption of preventive practices to mitigate the effects of air pollution. Data were collected from households residing in both industrial

Medication management in long-term care: using evidence generated from real-world data to effect policy change in the Australian setting.

Older individuals residing in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) are often living with multimorbidity and exposed to polypharmacy, and many experience medication-related problems. Because randomized controlled trials seldom include individuals in LTCFs, pharmacoepidemiological studies using real-world data are essential sources of new knowledge on the utilization, safety, and effectiveness of pharmacotherapies and related health outcomes in this population. In this commentary, we discuss recent pharmacoepidemiological research undertaken to support the investigations and recommendations of a la

Cannabis use and alcohol and drug outcomes in a longitudinal sample of sober living house residents in California.

INTRODUCTION: Some evidence suggests that cannabis may be a safer substitute for other drugs. Historically, sober living houses (SLHs) have been abstinence-based environments designed for individuals in recovery to live with others in recovery. However, the evolving legal landscape around cannabis use has left SLH operators and managers in a difficult position regarding policies related to cannabis use among residents. The primary aim of this study was to examine how cannabis use relates to alcohol use, other drug use, and related problems among SLH residents. METHODS: Baseline (N = 557), 6-m
