Understanding Functional Recovery in Burn Survivors Aged 80 Years and Older: A Burn Model System Study.

The global demographic shift toward an aging population is transforming burn care, yet the "oldest old" (adults ≥80 years) remain poorly understood. Standard geriatric guidelines are not specific to this subgroup, a group exhibiting unique physiological needs and vulnerabilities. We conducted a retrospective analysis of the Burn Model System (BMS) National Database for adults aged 80 years or older (N=104).1 Physical Function, Ability to Participate in Social Roles, and Pain Interference were assessed at 6 and 12 months post-burn and compared to pre-burn and US population norm (aged ≥75 years)

A Typology of Moderator Practices and Community Guidelines in Online Mental Health Communities to Establish a Framework for Digital Safety: Systematized Review.

BACKGROUND: The rise of online mental health communities has reshaped the ways individuals seek and receive mental health support. Although online mental health communities (OMHCs) offer a valuable space for peer support, including through experience-sharing, they also present challenges, including moderation practices to cultivate supportive interactions and secure member safety. No comprehensive framework of moderation practices has been established. Developing such an understanding is important, as moderators play a central role in facilitating a sense of community and determining whether O

Early predictors of the childhood dysregulation profile from ages 5 to 8: evidence from the UK household study.

Childhood dysregulation profile (DP) involves co-occurring difficulties regulating emotions, behaviour and cognitions, and is associated with adverse outcomes. However, its early predictors are not well understood. We examined child- and family-related predictors of borderline and clinical DP symptoms at ages 5 and 8 years. Participants were 3,467 children from the UK Household Longitudinal Study. Parents reported on early child-related factors (infant regulatory problems, age 3 temperament and screen media use), prenatal exposures (smoking, alcohol) and postnatal family factors (parental psyc

Analysis of barriers to self-monitoring of blood glucose among community-dwelling elderly patients with diabetes mellitus: a cross-sectional study integrating artificial intelligence-based risk prediction.

BACKGROUND: Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) is essential for diabetes management, yet elderly patients face multiple barriers that compromise adherence and glycaemic control. This study aimed to assess barriers to SMBG among community-dwelling elderly patients with diabetes mellitus, identify associated factors, and develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based predictive model for high-risk individuals. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Chun'an First People's Hospital from March to August 2025. Two hundred elderly patients (≥ 60 years) with diabetes were enrolled usin

Equity-Related Factors in Emergency Medical Service Use for Acute Coronary Syndromes: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Emergency medical service (EMS) use reduces time to treatment and improves outcomes in acute coronary syndrome (ACS), yet it is unknown whether all Australians have equitable access to EMS. This systematic review examined whether equity-related factors are associated with disparities in EMS use for patients with ACS in Australia. METHODS: The review was pre-registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023466951). Six databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Cochrane and Scopus) were searched in June 2025 for articles published from inception until May 2025. Eligible studies in

The association between social capital and mental health among older people living with HIV: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Older people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) constitute a vulnerable group in society and are at high risk of developing mental health problems. Although strengthening social capital is a common recommendation to reduce such mental health risks, no systematic review has examined the link between social capital and mental health among older people living with HIV. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review of peer-reviewed studies examining the association between social capital and mental health among adults aged ≥50 years living with HIV. Development and validation of a prediction model for subsequent fractures after hip fracture surgery in older adults: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Subsequent fractures after hip fracture surgery are associated with substantial morbidity, functional decline, and increased mortality in older adults. Early identification of high-risk patients is therefore essential for implementing targeted preventive strategies. This study aimed to develop and temporally validate a prediction model for subsequent fractures within 2 years after hip fracture surgery in older adults. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included older adults who underwent surgery for a first unilateral fragility hip fracture between January 2019 and May 2022.

Recognising Mild Cognitive Impairment and Early Alzheimer's Disease in General and Psychiatric Practice: Clinical Clues and Appropriate Referral.

Early cognitive decline may become evident through changes in daily activities or behaviour before it is apparent in a brief consultation. This selective narrative review supports case-finding and appropriate referral in general and psychiatric practice. Four actions organise the review: identify decline in previously mastered instrumental activities of daily living; recognise new apathy or sustained behavioural change; use a cognitive screen sensitive to mild impairment, such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment; and refer when clinically meaningful concern remains. Functional and behavioural

Gendered experiences of cause-specific unmet medical need: An intersectional analysis using MAIHDA.

Unmet medical needs (UMN) persist even under universal health coverage and remain unequally distributed across social groups. Although gender differences in UMN are well documented, less is known about how gender intersects with family and work roles to shape healthcare access. We analyzed data from 230,925 adults aged ≥19 years in the 2024 Korea Community Health Survey. Outcomes were overall, time-related, and cost-related UMN. Multilevel Analysis of Individual Heterogeneity and Discriminatory Accuracy (MAIHDA) was applied using 144 intersectional strata defined by sex, household composition,
